First rule of Texturing, make what you like, number of downloads is just a perk.

Also, anyone else having trouble with the stone color palette in MCPatcher's color mod?

Last I checked the First rule of Texturing, is you don't talk about texturing.

I decided to make some glowstone alternates.

I feel like the one on the right 4th from the bottom has too much saturation sucked out of it. I think you should bump up the saturation a tad so it doesn't have that gray spot in the middle, and make it more like an in-between with the orange and the yellow above and below it.

First of all, I'm pretty sure you don't "procide profits" or "shred with maker" :tongue.gif:

Secondly, when a person makes a texture pack, it 100% belongs to them, regardless of who it is made for. You can't just walk into a candy shop and say "Make me some candy, I'll share it with other people and give you some of the profit." That only works as to distribute things such as games and appliances to stores to be a middleman. However that doesn't really apply here seeing as we are all online and have the same ability to connect to each other just as much as the next guy. But good luck with that...

This is pretty interesting, it is very rare that you find a server creating a customized server and client mod just for their server. If this does well then have some diamonds :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: .

I would apply, except my forte at the moment is far from dark, fantasy, and realistic textures so I don't think I would be very useful, but I do make HD textures, so that's a +. Also like lordofsax, I am creating my own texture pack so that would have to take priority, and also I don't think the rest of my server staff would appreciate me creating textures for a custom mod for another server.

*gasp* Personal bias factoring into the judgement of something as subjective as art?? Say it ain't so! (kidding :3)

I was talking less about the personal bias on the textures, and more on the personal bias of the factors that went into the creation of the textures (methods, creator, etc.)

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've personally found that some of my best work is made while under pressure. And there really is such a thing as 'too much' re-working. Some people (myself included) have trouble saying 'that's it, it's done.' We go back and tweak and tweak and tweak, and sometimes only end up driving ourselves into perfectionist holes. Hence why I call the process of entering said hole 'perfectionist ********'.

Well although you may argue that your first answer is usually your best one, there are always back-ups, undos, and if you reach the point where you don't like it at all, you can simply start all over again. All things you can't do when you are on a time schedule.

I believe that inspiration, creativity, and impressions cannot simply be willed into existence. Art is like books, sometimes the author gets writers block, sometimes they can write several chapters at a time, these are all reasons why authors do not work on a specific time schedule. Same with artists, you can have inspiration one day and the next have none. This is really one of the main reasons I dislike organizing artists all on the same time frame, because it will not be an adequate representation of their full or possibly even half potential. My English teacher said recently that although success is derived from failure, you got to start succeeding eventually.

    posted a message on Religion
I see you are having trouble grasping the relevance of, well basically everything I have said so far. Let me help you. First of all the large wall of text I posted was posted at 5:27 PM EST (2:27 PST, 10:27 GMT) Today, on this page. It's not that difficult to find. The whole reason I started on about this fact that one cannot be agnostic about a subject, is because you insisted that one can be agnostic about a subject where you said that one does not make a decision if there is not enough evidence. The whole wall of text describes the definition of the word fact, and how facts can change and are subject to our senses and brains. This is why I believe that one can make a decision on a subject when there is no evidence provided for either side and not simply be "agnostic" about the decision. Once again I have to retype my argument about how "innocent until proven guilty" and "the burden of proof falls upon the person who makes the claim" relate to this discussion. Because there was no proof of the neighbor crashing his car into the other mans car, then the judge should have dismissed his claim because there is no reason to punish someone who has no proof of their wrong-doing. The same thing relates to religion. Because there is no definitive, tangible, or reliable proof of god existing, then the only other option is atheism. However if one chooses to accept that ultimate knowledge of all has not yet been reached, then one would be classified as an agnostic atheist because they are not certain there is no god.

Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait.

Facts don't change. You're wrong about that, too. Facts are not "commonly accepted opinions". If that is the definition you wanted me to read earlier, then don't bother to point out the post you were referencing, I won't read it... you are wrong.

And this is all still very irrelevant.

You choose to disregard my arguments because you do not believe in what they prove? You are not willing to change your beliefs if given evidence that proves you wrong?

You choose to defy the basic laws of discussion.

    This discussion is over.

I don't know how good it is to other people but I made my discovery pack entirely in six hours and it is 256x. I have faith that you can do it!!!

Obviously you used filters, sliders, color alterations, and that fancy do-dad you have on that special image editing software, which are things I tend to stay away from due to it more of doing the work for you.

I don't perform under time constraints unless that time constraint is someone else's running time, I still have about 60 years until I hit the average life expectancy limit, so there's no reason to rush making a texture pack in 2 weeks. Personally I would prefer that instead of creating a contest that could potentially create 100 very similar and very rushed texture packs each with their own thread on the forums, you say make a contest to create a holiday-themed texture pack in time for next holiday season. Not everyone can be like lilyo and take someones texture that they spent an hour on and recreate it in ten minutes yet much better, however say if that person spent 24 hours on that one texture I am sure they could make it better than what lilyo could make. I feel that although the contests should focus on a variety of different challenges that test the skills of the competitors, I think that we should be focusing on removing constraints instead of adding them, because after all quality is better than quantity. Say have a contest for a banner for a texture pack, or possibly mod support for a mod, create the best video guide to creating a texture, something that makes creating textures more about creativity and not make texturing into something that feels like a 9-5 job where you have to make a certain theme in a limited time.

Like the sticky to this topic says, creating a texture pack is not a one day project, so creating time limiting contests only reinforces the opposite of this statement.

Although I doubt this rant will change this competition from happening, being said that the more packs there are for this contest, the more messy the texture pack's forums will be, I think there should be one thread where the creator copy-pastes everything the creator would put in their thread, and simply lists the texture packs. This will also centralize conversation about the texture packs.

You know Steel, a when it comes to Yogscast, comments, messages, or even petitions won't do anything. So I suggest you make it so they come to you. On your thread where it says downloads, put in parentheses "Except for Yogscast, they can F*** off unless they want to provide proper citation".

That should send the right message the next time they visit your thread. Sure they may not do it immediately, but they will see it eventually.

First of all, I really dislike how this thread isn't too active, but seeing as the texture pack was only released 2 weeks ago, its not that bad. Keep up the good work.

posted a message on Minecraft.net down?
Just dropping some information in right now, as I just did on Notch's live stream. Right now the minecraft authentication system is down, it isn't a personal problem, your internet specifically, or anything like that, so there is no reason to post "same" on the thread. Secondly to the guy who said because minecraft is fully released that this should not be happening. Well I think quite the contrary because now that the game is fully released I am sure there are at least a few more people who bought the game, thus putting more stress upon the minecraft.net authentication system. So what I suggest you do is to stop attempting to log in to minecraft. A majority of the time (except for when those people DDOSed the website) this happens because so many people are trying to log in and the servers can't handle it (Its like flushing a clogged toilet, it just makes it worse). So my advice is wait, be patient, and check the Mojang employee's twitters for some updates, usually when things like this happens it isn't hard to find out if it is working again without constantly attempting to log in.
