This has probably been suggested before, but why not simply have the account name be separate from the player name like in pretty much all other multiplayer games from the past decade?
The account name could still be used for white / black lists etc. but never displayed in-game.
That's the way it should be, but now it's unlikely to change.

It is still very much a work in progress.

Also, you might want to list additional requirements other than having skype and a mic.

Of course it is perfectly legal. It's a simple configuration option provided in the software.
If it had to be modified, you could have a (weak) argument about it being illegal.
What is illegal however, is using an unlicensed copy of Minecraft.

People from outside your net will need to use the public IP.

If you just have a modem, and if it does in fact only what a modem should, there shouldn't be a problem.
Does your computer get the public IP?
If so, it could be your ISP blocking the port.

Now, that isn't really helping him with the problem at hand, is it?
The NoRouteToHostException is really telling you that the specified address couldn't be reached, basically the same as the previous error.
If you could be more specific regarding which addresses you're using to connect, it might be easier to troubleshoot.
Remember, to connect though the internet you need to use your internet IP, not the local one. Also, you need to make a NAT rule in the gateway.
