I've been having this problem a lot too. It used to happen every few minutes or so and I could brush it off, but within a month or two it's gone to every single click. And I can say that the larger builds=more double clicking idea is true for me. But it's really annoying when I have quite a few nice, huge projects that I can't work on at all.
It's not my computer or my mouse, as it used to work fine, and it's not lag. It lags when I go on far with fancy graphics. It double clicks when I'm on tiny and fast.
TL;DR: Same stuff as everyone else, really annoying, a solution would be wonderful.
This happened to my brother, who has the volcano mod. Everything I've seen about it has that mod so I'm guessing that's it.
As for the cause, hell if I know.
