posted a message on No Squids?
I started playing a world on hardcore and traveled approx 7000 blocks away before making base.

Next to where I made camp there is a small lake where squids would frequently spawn and I would kill when passing for ink sacs.

After acquiring several stacks I stopped, then at some point between then and needing more ink sacs they stopped spawning EVERYWHERE.

When I say everywhere, I mean I have traveled on foot 2-3 thousand blocks away, looking in oceans, swamps lakes but nothing.
I even went into the nether, traveled 1000 blocks, built a portal, entered it, then searched the immediate area within 1000 blocks (ish).
Again, not a single squid. They seem to have completely despawned from my world.

How can I get them back?

    Thanks for reading

I dunno what happened in my world but it went from them spawning in a small lake next to me, 5/6 at a time, to there suddenly being none within a 4000 block radius. Obviously i haven't checked every block but I have traveled that distance trying to find them.

    Least you got a dungeon?

Apart from the initial shock, it was pretty lucky I think.
Fortunately I had killed a couple of withers that dropped coal because I had no torches. Not that it really matters though, I hate spider spawners, this one will be getting destroyed.

    Haven't checked the chests yet.

Whilst in my quest to find squids in my world (see here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1919620-squids/)

I decided to go to the Nether, find a fortress, then build a portal, taking me miles away from my world location.

    I ended up here:

Just asking, but what villagers do you get in your village? You could try breeding them to get new villagers that could potentially help you.

The usual kind, but to able to trade with librarians and get the rare book trades it makes things quite tedious when their next trade is for written books and I have no ink sacs.

Also written books, whilst being a bit of a pain are worth 1 emerald each

Why do people allways suggest cheating or mods to get large amounts of building blocks?

The question was; "What is the fastest way to..."

The semi-auto tree farms are cool but a complete waste of resources. Most of them take 20-30 bonemeal per tree.

10 villagers and 21 doors is working fine for me, just checked the hopper chest and I have 5 stacks of iron so it's obviously working.

Well, I have travelled at least 2000 blocks in every direction. Not a single squid was found. I'm beginning to think that they have completely despawned from my world.
I might try reinstalling but obviously keeping the save. Librarian trading is pretty pointless as it stands.

Are you killing the squids cause you are a part of the Sky army? (Just saying)

I have no idea what sky army is mate.

    timbermod?

If you do use it, would be sure to remove it again straight after harvesting. Wouldn't want a creeper completely destroying your tree with one explosion lol

    OK, so I moved everything.

I completely destroyed the sugar cane farm and filled in the water blocks. I killed all the cattle leaving just 3 each of chickens, pigs, cows and sheep, then moved their pens a fair distance away (there was far more roaming cattle in the area when I found the location). I have slaughtered pretty much all roaming cattle but still no squids, ANYWHERE.

None in the ocean, none in the swamp and none in the lakes, most of which I have now filled up.

Would an infinite village cause them to stop spawning? There is only a few villagers in it. I move them via water stream about 70 blocks away for trading.

Depends how much iron you would like.

I use one similar to the docm tutorial but I just have the minimum villagers with a double layer spawning platform with a hopper and chest.
It produces far more iron than I need.

Along with charcoal and villager trading the only time I need to go mining is for redstone and gold.

What do you need so much squid ink for anyway? All you need is enough to dye a few sheep.

    Book and quill for trading.

There is a small lake between 1 & 2 blocks deep next to where I am and there was plenty of squids spawning in it so I took advantage of it by killing them every time I went past. After acquiring several stacks of ink sac's I stopped to focus on other things.

Now I notice they are no longer spawning, would this be due to the cow pen I have constructed nearby or possibly the sugar cane farm with numerous water filled blocks?

I can't remember noticing them stop spawning.
