Jan 24, 2014c41uk posted a message on Iron farms once again "nerfed" to the point of impracticality?Posted in: Future UpdatesI always just assumed that since the farm was smaller, it could flush its iron golems out sooner and thus restart its spawning cycles more often
The 'cloud' has over 200 less spawning spaces for Golem's which makes it slower.
Jan 24, 2014c41uk posted a message on Iron farms once again "nerfed" to the point of impracticality?Posted in: Future Updatesthe Iron Cloud was just a smaller-and-therefore-less-efficient version of docm's/JL2579's iron farm with slightly-easier water and villager placement.
Not really bothered too much about Iron Farms being 'nerfed'. When I did play survival a single cell of JL's farm ticking over in the spawn chunks produced more iron than i could ever use without building everything out of iron blocks.
Shame the trench doesn't work anymore though, farms like that show just how intelligent some Minecraft players are.

Man, people here as so angry when there little thingys get nerfed. I am fine with monster farms, iron farms are rediculous because its already simple to get.
You sound paranoid as heck that your lovely iron farms and so on disapear, hah.
I simply asked a question, which wasn't aimed at you, yet you still felt the need to reply? "hah"
If you read my original post you would notice that I am actually not bothered at all.
I am just interested to know why a player that plays in a certain way is happy when a player that plays in a different way has to change tact.
All seems a bit childish to me.

The pigmen are pushed into a portal where they accumulate in the overworld.

Jan 16, 2014I only started playing in 1.5.2. What attracted me to this game was that it could be played pretty much however you wanted.Posted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots
It seems though that you can play however you want as long as it's in a way Mojang want you to play, which is fair enough, it is their game after all.
Iron farms and Gold farms hurt nobody, even the people that for some reason feel the need to constantly moan about others that use them.In fact I am sure some of the videos on YouTube of these ridiculously large Gold farms and the ingenuity of Iron farms such as the 'Iron Trench' and 'Lava Trench' is what attracted a lot of older players, like myself, to the game.
This change in 1.8 is a bad one IMO but not that bad. I like automation, but at the same time I don't like having unnecessary amounts of drops.
I prefer the 'Lava Trench' over the foundry, having to AFK there for a couple of hours now and then is no big deal to me.
As for gold farms, the mob cap is an issue so willing players will just use portals instead.
Jan 15, 2014Somebody suggested (Efficiency VI) on my previous Wither skeleton farm video that I use a portal to move them to the overworld. Originally I had built it in 1.5.2 and did toy with the idea at the time but getting the Wither skeletons through the portal would require a laggy piston set up or an afk position above the portal to lure them in. I didn't particularly like either solution so I didn't bother.Posted in: Creative Mode
Anyway, with the recent suggestion and the now bigger portals I revised the farm slightly (it still works by letting unwanted mobs despawn where possible but seperating mobs in the overworld is a lot simpler).
I linked five portals together with a sixth used for player access (toggleable to stop pigmen gathering inside when AFKing for long periods)
AFKing for one hour in perfect conditions will yield approximately 750-800+ Wither Skeletons. I also made a much smaller version meant for AFKing overnight which will produce around 100 Wither skeletons per hour.
I did look on YouTube and only found one other design which was uploaded recently. It was basically JL and Kabo's WitherRipper with a portal add-on which works well also.

The villages won't link if you copy and paste them. Of course, I used MCE to build 95% of the structure.

Anyways - it looks great. It's compact, aesthetically pleasing and modular. I very much like that "cartridge" addon looking system you hav for changing it up. I'm sure it's very efficient for it purpose as well. Does it cause noticeable lag?
There is some, but not a great deal. Would depend on your pc specs.
