WOW, thank you so much! That was an unbelievable amount of help, I cannot thank you enough!
I see what you mean about the spaces after the colon, and the line spacing etc. Although I was already using Notepad++. After looking over it for awhile I think I have a good idea of how to do it. I'll be sure to pay closer attention to line spacing and such. Thanks so much again. Although I couldn't quite tell how to use the YAML parser besides just pasting the code into it and looking at the output, I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks again, everything seems to be working perfectly fine! I'll use this to help me further with plug ins in the future!

who really cares? i mean in minecraft you build all the same things for a home either way..... no point in asking, because you already know they will have a bed and something like a farm and mine because everyone does.

A fountain, a well kept basketball court, gated community, green grass. It'a not hard to imagine that this looks too nice for prison.

hey if you dont like what we did with the place, then you dont have to play it. Simple as that.

If the output on the parser looks like Java, then it means it parsed successfully. When you get an error it will sat ERROR: on it usually. It's not terribly helpful with pointing out these errors however, it will usually give you approximately which line it's on but I usually have to stare at it for a while before I see which column is out of rank or which space is missing, etc...

As for why it's still rewriting itself, it could be something the parser isn't picking up. like a spelling error or an ' that's out of place.

Yeah, that's probably worth mentioning. You CANNOT have lone apostrophes in a .yml file. You'll notice that in the chat format section, it uses apostrophes instead of quotation marks to enclose the format code, when you place an ', the file expects another one to follow to close the bracket so to speak.

In short, if you try to type "doesn't" in your file anywhere without closing the apostrophe, the whole thing will become very confused and error out. I recommend using two apostrophes like so: "doesn''t" if you simply must have a contraction.

As for why that [L] is there, I'm not entirely sure. One thing I'll say though,

It looks like the "group-formats:" line may be out of rank. It's hard to tell without parsing it, but that be causing some bizarre problem like a random [L] showing up or something...Edit: Could you maybe post a DL link to your essentials config.yml? I might be able to help you further if I can see the whole thing.

That functionality is built into essentials, and as for why it keeps re-writing itself, that tends to happen when the file is corrupted. [i.e: Parsing errors!]

You may want to run that file through the parser as well if you have not already.

I looked over your Permissions config file and you have more parsing errors that I can count. In short - you're doing it wrong.

I'm going to include a download link to a version of the same file in which I corrected all your parsing errors. I want to notice a couple of things in this file. Each category is two spaces and one line down from it's parent like so:

Line One Random Line of YAML:
Line Two:
Line Threee Random Line of YAML: false
More Stuff: true

Also note that after every colon after a permissions node like 'permissions.coolcrap:' there has to be a space before the Boolean value true/false. I was seeing a lot of 'permissions.coolcrap:true' instead of 'permissions.coolcrap: true'. Little things like this are very important.

I also highly recommend that you use Notepad ++ to edit your .yml files [google it] and that after every time your config files you run it though a YAML parser. This will find any errors you might have accidentally made.
