1.12 is best for servers, It's newest still optimalized version of the game. newer versions are bad for bigger servers.

SalC1 made it seem a lot worse than what it actually is. People just believed him without testing it out themselves. There is a server called Purity Vanilla that runs on 1.16. At peak hours it has 75 people on and it has a queue. The server is always at 20 tps. It rarely gets lower.

There doesn't need to be a point.
Just like why climb Everest, or go to the Moon, or traverse across South Pole or North Pole?

    It's curiosity.

Me and my friends are trying something similar but different. Instead of just me on single player mode walking across the overworld from spawn to world border. We started from world border and decided to travel via the Nether since the new Nether update, back to spawn. Oh, and there's a small group of us doing it together. The company makes it fun. So we assuming the video series would be more interesting than hearing someone speak to themselves or not at all.

Here is the thread : https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/servers-java-edition/minecraft-realms/3029092-grove-street-gang-presents-back-from-nethers-edge

Thing is, everyone knows the first man on the moon, hardly anyone knows the others that made it also.

KilloCrazyMan is I guess perhaps a mini Neil Armstrong in that sense then of the minecraft world.

Yes but in real life, you can't just teleport to the moon, but you can teleport to the farlands in Minecraft.

How are you farming evokers? You mean a raid farm? Are you playing on Bedrock?

By pillager farm I meant raid farm. And I play on Java Edition. Why did you ask?

posted a message on What do you think the Cave Update would look like?

I disagree with the idea of adding cave biomes. What I think they should do for a cave update is add new underground structures, make caves larger and rarer, and useful items that can only be obtained in caves.

posted a message on Set totem drop rates to 5%.

You are basically invincible when you have a pillager farm because of how easy it is to get totems. Each evoker has a 100% chance of dropping one which is too high for how powerful they are. I think a droprate of 5% would balance it.

What else are we supposed to think about end cities? Who built them? Why are they there? Maybe the end is an alternate reality where some cataclysm destroyed the world and left the end cities as the only remnants of whoever lived there. Or maybe they're built by the endermen but either way, there's no reason that Steve should know how to craft anything he finds there. Anyway I agree that we don't need more stuff through trades though.

Maybe a use for the smithing table?

No, Mojang added them for us to find and loot.

I'm okay with it being uncraftable because it comes from the end and was possibly crafted by a long dead previous civilization

I'd say similiar thing on tridents as you do on Elytra.

Saddles should be fairly expensive IMO, they can be looted, pried off dead Ravagers or traded for, yet they seem to be made from some simple materials... they, like Elytra or Tridents, probably need skilled craftsmen to create them. Same for non-leather horse armour.
    Hm.
    I know!
I think we should have archeologist villager profession! They would require an enchanting table. If given a sample (or several, or a bunch phantom membranes extra in case of Elytra), they would be able to give player a blueprint to craft it. The blueprint would act like patterns for looms - would not be used up, but be necessary in crafting. Their trades would differ from other villagers - rather than in levels, they would have various independent branches of research.
They might, however, allow construction of only imperfect copies with lowered durability and enchantability, akin to what you proposed.
Wait, I have alternative idea - each master-level villagers might be given option to advance further, for example, leatherworker with enough time and tons of resources will be able to create blueprints for imperfect elytra, master weaponsmith to reverse-engineer trident and give you blueprints for it after being given about 10 looted ones, each on different day because of trade limitations.
It should be noted, though, that blueprint is only blueprint, one would still have to use proper materials, like 4 diamonds and 1 prismarine shard, to create a trident copy, or multiple phantom membranes as well as popped chorus fruit, and perhaps a single netherite ingot to create makeshift elytra.

We already have too many items that are obtainable through trades. Adding more would make it even worse. I know this is off topic but I believe that half of the villager trades shouldn't exist.

The elytra shouldn't be craftable. Minecraft is also about exploration, everything being craftable woluld remove the exploration aspect of the game. And Chain armor shouldn't be craftable. There is no crafting recipe that would fit it. If we used yours there would be no point in crafting it since chains require iron, and if you already have iron, why not craft iron armor? And the tridednt recipe is way too cheap. You would only have to kill 3 guardians or something and then you'd have an extremely powerful weapon. But I do agree on horse armor and saddles having a crafting recipe.

I am absolutely sure that somebody has made it with nether roof, but really now it is a great achievement in the history of minecraft. If i remember well notch donated 2$ a few minutes before reaching the far lands.

I really wonder if anybody will make it to the world border on foot on recent versions of minecraft... reaching the world border via nether has been accomplished many times (however the only proof that remains is 2b2t's nether highways), but i'm sure that it has been reached via nether roof by a player without hacks in singleplayer.

A player managed to use a bot wih baritone in 6 months to reach the world border on foot without nether. I am not sure if the world border has been reached on foot without nether. But i bet than in a few months to a few years somebody will make it.

The 2b2t world border wasn't reached in vanilla though.

Will the second portal show in the nether? Never been in the nether so don’t know how it works

Divide the X and Z values of the village coordinates by eight and place your nether portal there, the village should be on the other side of the portal.
