Make sure you get a server on a node with a fast processor (E3-1230 or better). We can provide exactly what you need. Please PM me or catch us on Skype or Live Chat if you're interested.
MinecraftLayer is one of the best hosts I have ever seen for a Minecraft server. McLayer's customer support far beats any other host such as BeastNode, Aim2Game, ProvisionHost, or SecuredServers. With the purchase of your server you even get full access to the root of the system, and all McLayer servers come with a dedicated IP, and MyMyAdmin which you can use to control your server from your iPad, iPod, iPhone, Android, or any web enabled device. I give this service 5 stars, and could not be more satisfied with their service! Thank you McLayer for providing such a great hosing service, and awesome customer support!
If you would like to check out my server running McLayer, then join the IP mc.reclaimercraft.com
I see our name was mentioned here a few times (thanks guys). OP - let us know if you end up looking for another VPS in the future. We also just started RamNode.com for cheap OpenVZ hosting, but I wouldn't recommend that for Minecraft.
Just switched from provisionhost. I didn't have a problem with them per se, but one day I was having problems with lag and logged in to the VPS and found the problem was hackers scanning the box trying to get in to ssh etc. If I submitted a ticket, they probably would have blocked it, but I don't want to have to do that every time someone tries to crack it. So, I decided I wanted more control over the VPS so I could implement the sorts of protections that I usually employ use like iptables rather than learn how to do that in OpenVZ--Sure, you could block it in e.g. hosts.allow, but the connect attempts will still consume resources, better to just drop the traffic at TCP/IP layer. So far so good, setup was painless, the docs on porting the world were easy to understand.
We're glad your transition has been smooth. Let us know if you need anything.
I have to agree with Al Zaabi and say you need to go the VPs route. That server price (if it's USD) is really overpriced. We rent dedicated servers with over 16GB of ram and more powerful processors for less than that monthly price. Here at NodeCraft we haven't launched our VPS program just yet, but we will definitely refer you to MCLayer as they are one of the best VPS hosts in the industry. You'll spend about $30 /month rather than that absurd number.
I know we have a Gigabit port, beyond that I have no clue, because they have no clue. However, we have found another host that has real IT guys.
Most DDoS can simply be absorbed by a port that large. We are able to do that in some of our locations if you change your mind. Let us know who you went with if you will.
Thanks Mike! Minespot - we can definitely meet your needs. If you need something larger than Mike listed, please contact me directly. You can add me on Skype, follow us on Twitter, or just email me at nick[at]mclayer.com.
We offer GroupPay which allows people to donate directly to your account with us. This cuts out the in between step of paying and keeping track from your PayPal. You provide your players with a link (that we give to you) and they can essentially pay your invoices directly on that link for you.
