I think the snow level should be closer to 100-110. Right now it seems to start around level 90.

Other than that I think it's great. More stone means less of that ugly grass (seriously, I wish so bad that they would've changed the grass) and adds more variety to it. I also love the fact that pine trees now spawn in them. It's much more realistic. I like that there are random points above cloud level (but not too far above).

I love the new mountains. All I would do is raise the snow level by about 10-20 blocks, and really, I wish they would change the grass color. But of course that's a downside to the old ones AND the new ones.

Survival seems like it would be a pain in the ass on Amplified though. You know how much more difficult collecting resources would be? It's already annoying enough to dig up 100 blocks into a mountain lol. Now you can dig up 250 blocks, theoretically. Also, coal doesn't generate above a certain point (cloud level possibly?).

Then again, that could be the appeal of it for some people.

I also imagine that feather falling would be super valuable on, say, an Amplified server (if such a thing ever comes around).

Loaded a new world, went to the nether and found:-

3 separate fortresses not too far from each other, but not connected (wide spaces between them) either.
Within them I found horse armour, 7 gold, 14 iron 5 diamond, 7 saddles, 6 gold swords, 5 gold body armour, 3 flint and steel, 56 gold ingots, 32 iron ingots and 64+ nether wart!

I'm enjoying this update snapshot a lot!

    Roll on 1.7 :D :D :D

All of that was added in 1.6

I don't see anything about this on the Wiki, but I can confirm that mountains can generate above level 128 now. I just found a mountain that peaks at level 132, and it's on just regular world gen.

No replies yet, but I'm not going to let that dissuade me!

    June 28, 2013

Had a very productive day today. Now that I'm more experienced at the game, I have a pretty good idea of what I want to get accomplished early on and I'm progressing at a rapid pace. Nothing really in the way of building quite yet, but that's coming now that I've got an established first base. Today I did mostly a lot of exploring, hoping to find cows, horses, and a village and/or temple, added in a productive mining trip, then started the first basic projects at my base. I've decided to settle down in the forest first after all - it just seems easiest. But I'll be constantly scouting locations for my other villages.

Alright, so first project today, I need to explore some!

Went in the opposite direction today, and it didn't take me long to finally find some cows! I started leading them back to base...

And made a crude, temporary pen for them.

I'm ready also to make my first true build - a basic wheat farm. Found a good area to clear. But first, I think I hear a zombie spawner just below the surface, so I dig down...sure enough, there it is!

Another record and more gold horse armor. Not bad.

In fact, it opens straight up to a surface ravine.

Clearing out this area is dangerous at night. These new zombies are terrifying!

But eventually I finally get it up and going.

    Also, my sugarcane farm...

Back to the exploring. I had to travel about a thousand blocks, but I found some horses!

    And some donkeys!

    And a witches hut.

And this pretty neat mountain. (Might be kind of hard to tell, but it's a perfect hole through a mountain with a lava spring AND a water spring. Really stood out at night but was too pre-occupied to take a picture.)

Was able to finally get myself an enchanting table with the leather.

I put some basic enchants on all of my armor, weapons, and tools. Efficiency on the pick and shovel, Power II bow (combined two Power I bows), Protection (+Aqua Affinity for my helmet) on all my armor (Protection II chestplate), and a Sharpness + Fire Aspect sword, oh yeah!

Finally, it's time to do some caving!

Decided to tackle that mineshaft this time.
    First cave spider spawner!

Also, first mineshaft chest! Pumpkin seeds, but unfortunately no melon seeds or diamonds.

Seems the creepers are having a party down here!

And the slimes, too. That's two big slimes right next to each other.

Been caving for a while, and I think I got most of the mineshaft (seems a little small by mineshaft standards). No more chests or spider spawners - or dungeons - to be found so far. I'm running low on food so it's about time to head back, but one look into this ravine first...

Well that was worth it! Also, I didn't notice until after I had harvested these diamonds, but there was another vein of diamonds literally right behind me in this picture.

Final caving haul. Not bad for a 2nd expedition, and only two days of playing.

Next update will for sure have the first actual building projects. I feel a little bad that I haven't provided that yet, but it will come. I have some good ideas. I just wanted to get established first.

The first can happen, but I'm not sure what the spawning algorithm behind it is. Pretty sure it's the same concept as a floating tree though.

I tried this once before. I spawned a new world with the version 1.6 snapshots and ended up in a plains biome with the most horses you've ever seen in your life. Crazy.

Unfortunately, I was stupid and didn't back up the world, and corrupted it when I accidentally logged in on version 1.5. All of the horses disappeared and I lost motivation to play it. Here's the link to that if you're curious, but it only lasted 2 days haha.
    http://www.minecraft...-with-pictures/

However, I've decided for a while that I've wanted a new single player world (I've had the same one since 1.2 and I haven't touched it in weeks), and I have a solid idea of what I want to do with it as well.

Basically, I'm trying out my own sort of biome challenge - I want to build a village in every biome, and make each one have a unique feel while still being self-sufficient. I am aware that this will take a very long time, and I can't guarantee that I won't lose interest at some point, but it's a goal to strive towards. The villages don't have to be large, but I want more than just a house.

Also, I am aware that 1.7 may in fact end up being the biome update. Without knowing anything for sure, or what updates may be coming in the future, I will continue with this concept for as long as possible. If I am having enough fun with it, I may continue the idea even with any biome changes.

I don't know how often I'll update this. I'm going to try to limit it to showing the most important content. It's a "diary" in a way, but I'll be cutting out the less interesting content. Besides showing off my builds, I'm also doing this to receive feedback on becoming better at all aspects of the game (especially redstone, haha), so don't be afraid to give me ideas and feedback! Be harsh if you have to be, I won't take it personally. :)

    June 27, 2013

    Spawn area: Taiga, yuck.

I've found this cave that I'm going to settle into for now. I don't want to build my first village in a forest, so I'm going to search for a Plains or Extreme Hills biome.

Making the area my home for now, but I'm going to need a better farm soon.

Made a pillar in case I get lost, and took a picture of each direction. Nothing but forest and jungle as far as the eye can see. Hmph.

Well, before I can go exploring, I need some supplies. First, I water bucketed a lava lake (this is around level 40, NOT at diamond level) and decided that it was a good place to establish my temporary cave base, haha. I tried building higher up in the cave at first, but it was just too exposed to the surface.

It connects to a surface ravine nearby, but alas, there was nothing down there.

Down into the caves! Ooh, mineshaft. I'll save that for later, right now I'm just concerned about getting as much coal and iron as I can (bonus if I can find anything else).

    First gold!

Haha, what are you gonna do about it zombies?

Woops, guess I wasn't ready for an enderman fight yet! Damn it! I was at 24 levels, too. :(

I accidentally took these screenshots when I was getting overwhelmed. Still not sure how I survived, but it made for authentic combat screens I think!

First diamond! A vein of 5 - perfect for an enchantment table.

Unfortunately, I haven't found any cows yet. Inventory check after caving. Not a bad haul. Still a lot more cave to explore.

Now that I've got myself some good starter supplies, it's time to do some serious exploring. I saw some mountains in the far distance at one point...
Ah yes, this is good. Going to set up a preliminary "staging area" of sorts here. I may build my first village here.

These mountains might be better though. Wow!

Oh good, a desert. And a sunken dungeon!

A saddle, 2 pieces of horse armor, a record, and a name tag. No enchanted books, but that's not a bad haul.

I'll probably make this my first XP farm in the future. Very easy to access, good location.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that it was a pretty big desert, there were no villages OR desert temples in it! Despite the fact that there was a sunken dungeon and TWO useless desert wells.

I came back and explored the jungle near my house, but unfortunately, no jungle temple.

I've also seen part of every biome. Beyond the desert, there is a tundra (gross). There's a swamp beyond the desert and on the other side of the jungle. Plenty of forests and mountains around. Unfortunately, plains are the only major biome I haven't found yet.

And despite all of that searching, I have yet to find a single cow!! There's plenty of sheep and pigs in my area, but those don't give me leather. And I can't breed pigs for food until I find carrots. So I am kind of hurting on food as well.

Well until next time! I'm going to keep this world. I'll do my best to keep it updated. I just hope I find cows soon, haha.

Villagers DO trade diamonds. I have full sets of diamond tools and armor just from my sugar cane farms. All you have to do is get a library villager's last trade to be good and you are set for the rest of that entire world unless something kills it. Add that to the fact my iron golem is "Naturally" next to the diamond villagers I'm getting all my free iron right after I get done trading with him each time.

Iron golem farms take next to no resources to make dude. A few iron buckets (Which you can get from the golems) and a little lava. You can make a functional iron golem farm in a day after you find the village.

The old mob towers weren't really balanced, but they certainly weren't giving you everything. Even the tnt required you to dig all the sand. The best you were getting were arrows and that's it.

Even the zombies featherr drop required you to make sticks and dig gravel. Arrows from skeletons were the only ready to go item you were getting without any more effort.

If you hate the fact that you can get resources so easily, why do you choose to make all of these "towers" that make the game OP and too easy? Nobody is telling you how to play the game. If you don't like it, don't do it. You can still play the game without doing it.

There are very few things I've been dissatisfied with recently. They've added key content in each of the major areas. Exploration, building, redstone, combat, mods, adventure maps...there has been content to satisfy just about everybody. There are a few things that are added occasionally that make me scratch my head, but they're usually minor and not a big deal, and something I can adjust to easily. So yes, Minecraft is heading in the right direction, and I'm excited for what it will bring in the future. There's still so much potential for improvement to the core game.

The amount of content that Mojang has released in recent updates is pretty impressive, honestly. And I don't want them releasing the updates too fast, either. It's best to have time to acclimate yourself and familiarize yourself with the changes. There's also been a lot of admittedly long-overdue technical work going on behind the scenes. 1.6 was a little bit light on content compared to the previous updates, honestly, but from a technical standpoint it's accomplished a lot of very good things, so I'm not going to complain. And the content we did get was awesome. Quality over quantity.

I have some friends that have recently picked up the game again after having not played it for months and they're surprised at the amount of new content that the game has.

I'm really surprised that so many people here are complaining about it. Or maybe not. I always regret coming to these types of threads.

Thanks for the compliment. It's a good way of showing how far I've come as a builder since my early days.

I've essentially retired the single player world that this was on though. I'm starting a new one for 1.6, but most of my recent time has been spent on my private server that I run. I've got another very nice storage room on there that I'm pretty happy with, when I have time I'll post a picture of that.

I apologize that I have not kept this updated, but unfortunately I seem to have ruined this world. :( I made the mistake of accidentally loading it in 1.5 and when I re-logged in with the snapshots, all of the horses had disappeared. :( The world itself is still fine, but none of the horses are there anymore, and considering that was the main reason I wanted to start a new world, I got pretty discouraged and gave up on it.

However, I may decide to find the seed for the world and re-start, and hopefully the spawning for horses hasn't changed with any of the recent snapshots. No promises though.
