I think the base idea is too prevent speed hacking all together. At least when something is built that is large and you can look at it in awe, you know that its not been hacked together...
Although map editing would be an issue with this...
this is my third post suggesting scripting for users lol. It could be implemented by notched, but it'd be better if the users had control to implement what they want. No stress on notch though for server/client side scripting =] at least not for a while =]
so liek, im gonna disagree. Its not that important to have a friends list. Maybe something implemented later on into the game. Defiently not straight away. It'd require additional database/server scripting that could be focused more on the game play.
ew. Sorry but this won't ever be implemented, in the future there may be the ability to select a single colour based on your postcount, so if you hit 100 posts you'd unlock the ability to choose a colour for your name but that's the furthest colours would ever go, even then I'd prefer not to.
The whole idea for colors is too give the users more personality, next to avatars and signatures (even though signatures are a dumbarse idea that opens up the world of spam..)...
My experience with this idea on my _active_ community website has worked well, you get the some very rare members that do the whole rainbow effect, but it just highlights that they are retarded 14 year old girls.. look at it here http://bendigolan.com for examples..
And I don't like the 'crouching morphs you into a block' idea. It's just a bit random and it wouldn't really fool anyone. Unless your skin was made out of a dirt block or something, then it might work, but that's more of a requirement...
on my community website i choose shaded colors so that we didnt get that problem lol. although it was mainly too make the colors work with the dark template.
I'd rather pay $30aud for minecraft than $100aud for some crappy commerical game that gets hammered by Yahtzee and puts me off playing..
Also, this type of project is rare. Where the developer is known, and its not some sort of business trying to get a quick buck out of current trends...
I implemented this into my own community website, and the users loved it.
I stole the idea of quake style names.
example:
^1 = white
^2 = blue
^3 = green
...
^2blue^1y
I'm sure some of you've seen it before.
Not a necessary thing now of cause, but a suggestion none the less. Also, since this method of coloring names has a tiny learning curve on it and on my community website we dont show instructions, in other words, they'd have to ask to find out how we do it, i've noticed nearly all users that arnt regulars don't have colored names which helps a lot too know whos who and it gives a more personal feel in that we know each other. In other words, it adds more individualism in the same way avatars and signatures do.

how about: when you couch you become a single block.
it'll could be good for hiding, and as a bonus you get the ability too couch..
only issue is seeing blocks that are moving around =/
