Again, I'm stunned by the fact that this still gets a slow trickle of replies! I honestly keep leaving it for dead, I should probably start checking back every week or something, hahah.
Do you mean the ambient occlusion map? If so, I don't know of any others that exist, no. But they don't really need to because the current one is honestly as good as your going to get. I could try to make my own, but it will more than likely look exactly the same.
I figured I'd make the promo not-blurry. There's also a CS4 .PSD (with compatibility) for those with Photoshop, GIMP, and whatever else may be able to open it.
Did you mess with the chunk loader, or anything to deal with the way chunks load? Right now my minecraft is acting up, and will only load or create chunks once I get within anywhere between 2 and half a chunk away. Normally it would generate as far as I can see, which means pretty far since I typically have fog set to far.
I ask because this is the only mod I have installed, and I'd like to rule out all other options before I blame it on Minecraft itself. Not to say you're to blame, either. I use the client version, without modloader. I can give more information as requested.
EDIT: I just restored minecraft to a pre-install version that I backed up, and chunks are loading correctly now.
Haha! You sound as fuddled as me Kaleo! Lol! CandyBlu's his pic (I hope!), his (or her...better not jump to conclusions) name is 'biodude94566', and yes, he's on the list.
It's Biu, not Blu. i, not L. I prefer Candy Biu for referring to me, though I still use my slightly older "biodude" name to sign up on sites.
Anyway I've been working one some skins whenever I'm not playing Amnesia, Black Ops, or Minecraft. I only have 3, and I'm only proud of the Steampunk Gentleman one. I'd really appreciate it if you took a look at them :smile.gif: http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd483/ValquiraKhel/
Could we get previews of those?
Also, I've got a skin I made for one of my friends, keeping it private for now. I would prefer if people didn't steal it, please and thank you.dapperman.png
I can't get my MCSkinEdit to show the preview >.<
Whenever I try to start it up it tells me this
SkinEdit - alpha 3 pre 5
Error downloading preview:

Sounds like it's basically SkinEdit not being able to find and download the skintest2.jar file, and therefore crashing because it has nothing to run the renderer for. Give me a moment, I'll make a copy on my dropbox for you.

So who all has made working normal and specular maps for a texture pack? I'm asking because I'm trying to work on some myself, and, even after poking around all the other specular and normal maps, mine is coming out extremely shiny.
My question, really: Are you using the nVidia Photoshop plug-in (NormalMapFilter) and the normal-to-specular linked on dax's wiki, or a third party normal/specular map generator?
Gonna requote myself here.
I've looked into CrazyBump (though I'm not wild on it because of its status as a paid product and only being able to get a demo), and I just got xNormal. I don't have the space for installing a million different programs, unfortunately.
@ Biodude & AnonCthulhu: Many thanks for your continued efforts on this, you two. That pic looks wonderful to me, Anon! I very much appreciate the time you've put in to this so far.
Could I offer your two screens, AnonCthulhu (with credit and a link to the mod) in the OP at the top, or would you rather I held off until you are more happy with the results? Also is there any easy formula that you have discovered that would make it easy to update the terrain.nh and terrain.s files, whenever I change any of the terrain textures? The reason being that I'd like to keep things as flexible as possible for future updates. I'm sure as the mod matures, it may become easier to work with (says I, who knows so very little about it! Lol! Though I did read through most of the thread...and ran scared thinking of the extra work involved!)
Thanks again, you guys.
Thanks for the support, but I'd rather you held off on mine. Anon's doing a lot better job at it and I barely have anything done, plus it's incredibly shiny. :tongue.gif:
I am, however, working a bit on a formula for making everything easy, but a lot of it is a bit time consuming, especially generating the normal maps tile by tile. I've still not found a good way to create them and get the effects that other packs do (look at the images for Aza's Arid and how deep things look), and I've not generated good speculars at all. I think I may look into doing it by hand a bit... or see if I can find a specular generator.

Well, I've got it working... somewhat. Most of the basic blocks that you're gonna find immediately on a level have been given normals and specular. (Dirt & Grass, Stone, Sand, Logs, Wood, Half Blocks, Cobble, Gravel, Chests, Workbenches, Furnaces, Cacti) Unfortunately, after looking at other packs with full support that look good... the normals can be rather extreme to get a good look, and I've not yet gotten specular lighting figured out... everything is too shiny.
(you can tell that sandstone doesn't have a normal nor specular from that image)

If you guys could come up with something to support that mod, I would be extremely grateful giving you due credit in any future updates with that facility onboard. I've glanced at the thread and loved the idea of it's potential, but just had to be realistic and admit that I just wouldn't have the time to experiment myself.
Like animation, I am very much in the dark when it comes to 'Depth of Field' and Specular Lighting' etc. I understand it in principle, but feel some what 'Depth of Fieldish' myself at the moment...kind of fuzzy round the edges...with so many things to take in!
I was about to post that I was having troubles launching minecraft... then I got it working, looked back, and realized I had the .jar open in WinRAR. Stupid me.
I'm working on looking into the Normal and Specular maps now. Doing a test off a quick pair, to see how it'll look. Pictures soon!
E: Tried figuring out how to work with the specular map and I'm not sure if I can change it on the fly.... Ended up cleaning the bin directory and Minecraft is still launching all finicky.

As well, did a little research, and Here's a .ttf (TrueType Font) for Minecraft's font.
