It's nothing to worry about, honestly. If you read the article he mentioned that the EXP system would be almost entirely automatic. That doesn't sound very RPG-like to me.
From what I've read- the idea will be that you level up very quickly depending on what you do but lose all of your levels, EXP, and inventory when you die.
IIRC Notch confirmed that there will be about four difficulty levels in the final game: Creative, Normal, Realistic, and Hardcore. I really doubt that he's stray away from that idea because that would drive away casual players.
There's also this:
"Adding progression and permadeath could be a risky move for Minecraft’s vast playerbase. I asked Notch whether he’s concerned about ruining the purity of the game he’s created.
“It’s the biggest risk,” he acknowledges. “We have to make sure that it’s fun, and as streamlined as possible. I kind of figured out that a really good test of what works or not is when I go back to 1.7.3 – the previous version. If it feels like it’s lacking that feature, if it feels like it should be in there.""
I'm sure that he's putting plenty of thought into it. So far 1.8 looks very polished and feature rich, I'm looking forward to it.

The included map spawns you right next to a crate, in hardcore mode. I know that I went wayyy overboard on the resources... but it's too late now. Since your overall resources are limited I hope that it still gets challenging!

Solution: stop wanting the impossible.

Okay, go fling a cat off a 5 story building and watch what happens. It will die.

I kind of feel the same way, but the great thing about it is that the building elements are still there if that's what you enjoy doing. The potions, etc. are nice but I don't ever see myself using them that often and I'm glad that the game doesn't do anything to force you to do so. It's still very open ended.

It seems as if people that are frustrated with the game just come here to dump complaints at the top of the forum. It doesn't matter if there's two dozen similar threads on the front page- individual complaints have to be worked in somehow.
It really just makes me sad, seeing everyone attacking the developers over a game. It's just a game to me. Why do all you complainers require perfection and instant gratification? Can't you wait for anything? Or accept anything that's not tailor made specifically for you? You're all just so negative and... selfish. It's disgusting.
Whatever, I don't care if this even gets read. I'm not going to visit this forum anymore because seeing all of the whining just makes me angry.

Maybe this will lead to a "real" Far Lands being added to the game... either way it's not much of a loss considering that only a handful of people would ever reach the Far Lands without cheating.

No one knows if Minecraft worlds are flat or round. Not even the programmer, he knows nothing about the map format. :biggrin.gif:
Minecraft worlds are definitely flat. Making them round would be pointlessly complicated; even if you wanted to simulate a round world then it's a lot easier to make the world wrap around then it is to actually make the world a sphere.

But it's going to become part of vanilla regardless.
