Correct, we're 100% Vanilla survival. The only exception really is a command block that counts the in-game days and announces it each morning and there was a command for a world-border expansion in the early days of the server. It's done growing for now, at 3000x3000 but we can increase that if need be. Just trying to encourage group play. Personally, I don't count either of those as non-Vanilla seeing as they don't really change the game itself. You may see it differently.

Hello guys, Bamcrab here with my video series! Or, two LP series to be specific: the first as an established player of my server building a new base and shenanigans with my server-mates... the second as a "new world" LP that I also play on the server. I'll try to upload a video about once a day, though I'm starting a bit slower than I'd like.

I am doing these LP series as a way to get better at speaking, to keep Minecraft fresh, and get back into video editting because I enjoyed it years ago. Please, provide constructive criticism so I can improve my quality for you. And as always, please subscribe if you like what you see... it really helps us YouTubers out!

    Are you me?

I have been having exactly the same problems, and I share your goals.

If you find a server, PM me, I think it would be fun to work with you!

Though I must ask, do you support TRUE vanilla? That is, vanilla with mods to protect against hacks and exploits?

Hahaha, I lol'd irl. I certainly do, as long as they don't pose any sort of real nuisance to players in-game. So that shouldn't be a problem at all. I mean, I ideally we would have a group of players whom you wouldn't have to worry about that... but I understand the need to be sure.

Hatchettwit, I can also speak from experience... I've administrated (and started) multiple public Minecraft servers. It's a lot of fun, and so is moderating or administrating it. For that niche of SMP moderation with WorldGuard/Big Brother is absolutely necessary to keep the peace and sanity. However it isn't that niche of gameplay that I'm looking for. I want a smallish group of players that I can rely on *not* to be a ****. I don't want a public server, at all.

Not to say, if over time this group of friends wanted to make their server public and/or release a separate server to fulfill the public niche, that I would be opposed to it. And if that happened, I'd absolutely want a form of structured moderation. But right now, I want some fun, long-term committed players to play with on a server where the itty bitty community is mature enough not to need rules. It really ought not to be that hard.

Moopoo225500, I am not looking to join a server. As my original post describes, I am looking for something which is no-where near the service you are providing. In fact, it seems rather like the antithesis of what I described. I would ask that you, and anyone else please refrain from using this thread as an advertising tool.

    ---

Now then, I've received a couple private messages from people that seem pretty excited about the concept. I'll get in touch with you soon, my apologies since today is a busy work day. I'd rather not jump into this with people I know nothing about. What are everyone's opinions of what we should build?

My own? To start, a village/city that we can call "home base". City walls, guard towers integrated into the walls, well-lit streets and navigation, replenishing supply of food (wheat/animals), water, lava, wood, etc. A mine that makes sense, perhaps with transportation. An organized and communal storage facility. Et cetera until we feel content with our base/fortress/kingdom. Then, we branch out. Move a ways away and explore as a unit (or several smaller units, preferably not alone...) and start to form more villages/cities. Then create quality roads/transportation between those cities. The main point is sticking together.

It isn't my hope to always be playing together at the same time. But I would hope that we all work towards a common goal, even when playing by ourselves on the server. Now, what about your guys' visions for the world in-game?

Phew, it's late where I am. X_x Sorry it's taken so long to respond... but the type of player I'm looking to join forces with is ideally:

-Interested in the same goal in-game (basically, I don't want our world to be a conglomerate of random structures... let's be classy!)
-Mature, that is to say preferably over 18 but otherwise acts like it
-Intelligent, on a more "common sense" level... you don't have to know a lot or anything, but a familiarity with "google-ing things" would be nice
-Committed, I don't want to start up a server to lose half of our group because this was some sort of passing fad
    -Relaxed, because nobody likes stress

I'll let this thread (hopefully!) gather some more views and reply tomorrow. If you're seriously as excited as I am about this taking off... send me a PM about yourself and what you want out of a server/group. Let's get this rolling. :smile.gif:

So... I'll be honest: I'm pretty appalled with the quality of the average MinecraftForum.net user. I know, I know, I'm probably a **** for saying that. But seriously, I don't want to join most servers because it all feels so gimmicky to me. Rules, structure, admin as a marketing point... I don't like it.

I enjoy playing Minecraft as it was intended to be played (Vanilla), and everything that entails. I just get lonely in single player. Once upon a time, I had some IRL friends that played Minecraft but they don't anymore and I find myself looking for a stable group of friends/acquaintances to play with as casually and hardcore as all our schedules allow. I want to build a village/town/city/onward together and flush it out to look super fancy, and replenishing supply of everything.

I have server admin experience, as well as a decent host. Though I don't really have a point in starting it up (paying for it) without something like five guys that are committed to a stable place online to play Minecraft. But I don't want there to be some hierarchy of staff/admins/mods/etc. I want a solid group of friends to play with. Why make it complicated?

    Who's with me?

But on a more serious note: maybe this game isn't for you. Minecraft is about making your own fun, and doing what you will with your world. You... don't seem to possess that ability.

posted a message on Looking for Subtle, Yet Experience-Enhancing SMP Mod Suggestions
I know, and I have, but I was hoping to cross-reference things I've liked from the plugin list with people's experiences practically. Combinations, people of like-minded servers and their experience, etc. This is a community and I was hoping to incite a discussion, and draw from it's collective experience.

In SSP, there are well-known supermods: buildcraft, industrialcraft, better than wolves, aether, etc. What are the SMP equivalents?

Btw, typing this on an iPad with autocorrect and cold fingers is a pain in the butt. Lol.

I don't mean to just bump this topic... But it didn't even receive one response. We have Essentials for warps and spawn changing. I'm trying to find plugins that add further (balanced) utility features, or fairly added blocks/items. Just a "richer" vanilla experience. Please help?

    Thanks, Bamcrab

posted a message on MC Server Broadcasting Player Deaths Via Twitter
(Short term message: Sorry for multiple posts in quackish succession. Lots of questions, lol.)

A while back, I stumbled across a twitter feed of an SMP Server's player death. I don't remember where, unfortunately.

Is this a feature that's possible or practical to reproduce? Google searches have yielded absolutely zilch, as does a search of this site. I've found plugins that broadcast to chat, and even a text file... But nothing to Twitter.

    Thanks,
    Bamcrab

posted a message on Looking for Subtle, Yet Experience-Enhancing SMP Mod Suggestions
    Hello Server Admins,

I'm in charge of my group of 6 friends's SMP server. It has just enough slots for us and we play almost exclusively all together. The server is hosted by a fantastic host: Minecraft-servers.com, and CraftBukkit plugin installation is cake so I don't need assistance with any of that. We're treating it like true multiplayer Survival/Adventure, and wish to keep a mostly vanilla feel. That said, we are open to the idea of a few subtle mods to enhance overall gameplay or multiplayer integration/fun.

My experience in server administration has been almost exclusively more creative-like and public community styled. I'm new to preserving the vanilla experience, and a quick look on plugins.bukki.com also yields mostly public community mods. So that brings me to here: I'm looking for the server admin community's suggestions for plugins that fit our niche. You all have much more experience than I do, so all input is welcome.

Also it should be noted that plugins be more-or-less well upkept, and stable... "quality" if you will.

Feel free to ask questions and I'll keep this post updated with my/our testing feedback.
Thanks so much for the help,
    -Bamcrab

Edit: Description clarification. Title clarification. Added the quality comment.

'/2 3' provides me with a very cool map (thanks!) but not a lot of danger/bad spawn/etc. What specifically did you mean?

The texture pack I'm using is Sphax PureBDCraft. Link!

posted a message on Worst Spawn Ever?
I suppose the title says it all, but I believe this is the worst spawn I've ever had. And I'm more or less convinced that I won't find a worse one.

As soon as the world loaded (like, before I saw anything in-game,) I heard Steve making pained grunts. "Wat?" was my first thought. Then I loaded, and looked down. What did I see?

Seriously? I lost half my health before I could even think to jump off the damn thing. And then, to see if it was a fluke... I killed myself and spawned again. On the damn thing. Again.

Anybody else want to try your luck? The map seed is '729'. Anyone else have a worse spawn?

posted a message on Our Minecraft: A community of Minecraft players
    :opblock: Our Minecraft :opblock:
:opblock: A community of Minecraft Players. :opblock:

Hello fellow Minecraft players. I would like to start a 3rd-party unofficial Minecraft community based on dedicated, consistent, intelligent, and knowledgeable players like (hopefully :Sheep: ) yourselves. :smile.gif:

I have a few resources invested into the project already, including two SMP servers (one for mods and awe-inspiring building, one for true vanilla SMP) and a domain name/hosting for a central website. A Ventrillo server is on standby in case it's needed. Though I have the resources, they are not refined and designed for a unifying community.

This is where all of you come in. I need a solid group of players and an even more solid team of staff, including people to help shape and form the community from the ground up as well as moderators to keep the community in check. What kind of people am I looking for? First and foremost, the four qualities I listed above:

-Dedicated- A member or staff member should be dedicated to the game. Have some drive to finish a project, participate in community discussions on our forum. If you're part of staff, never settle with something... always ask, "how can this be improved?"

-Consistent- Nobody wants someone to join in on a project and never be there to help. Everybody puts in time, and everybody gets a better community.

-Intelligent- Should you have perfect grammar? Nah, but it would be nice if you typed legibly, had some common sense, etc.

-Knowledgeable- When it boils down to it, Minecraft is a fairly simple game. The concepts are easy to understand and comprehend. It's a game of creativity. That said, you should know your stuff to a degree. I'm not asking you to know redstone perfectly or to be able to create minecart boosters, only to know the basic concepts.

In addition to all of this, I'm looking for some people who might have web design/programming experience. I have some, myself, but would enjoy someone to help out. Want to be staff? You should excel in the qualities above, as well as be personable, useful, and full of ideas.

So, is anybody else interested in a stable community of players to play with and talk with? To share and collaborate with? I want this thread to be a discussion of what direction this idea should take. Basically a starting point.

    Go! :smile.gif:
