posted a message on Extraordinary number of iron golems

I let a sufficient amount of time lapse before I posted again. So it would appear that caging up the iron golems dispersed around the village so villagers will always be in sight of one seemed to have done the trick. Since doing so, there haven't been any increases in the number of iron golems.

    Thanks again!

posted a message on Extraordinary number of iron golems

Some of this makes sense. The village is pretty spread out actually. Some employed villagers have their workstations pretty far from others (we just threw them up in houses where we found them), and the golems do tend to congregate in one area, why I don't know.

We have about 15 tamed cats, mostly parked around the mansion. We could spread them out.

I'm going to try and spread out the cats, fence in golems near the bells. If that doesn't work out then we'll go with the fence raising.

    Thanks!

posted a message on Extraordinary number of iron golems

    Hi,

We've got a nice little village setup as a base on a Realms world. All completely fenced in and lit up, and lots of villagers who are employed in all of the professions. They villagers have free access to all areas save for animal pens, our fields, and our mansion. The houses are relatively untouched, and we've added a few that match the original size and style. Most of the houses have several beds each.

We also have tons of iron golems walking around, something like 45 or or more at last count. Could it be that the fences are not far enough away, that mobs like zombies could be getting too close and causing them to panic? The fences are one block high cobbletone fencing; maybe they have too much line of sight and that's causing them to panic?

I dunno, the golems are getting annoying.

I don't know if this will keep them from wandering far, but I refit my existing fenced-in farm with several hives in the center and put a ring of assorted flowers on the perimeter of the farm. They seem to exit the hives, go for the flowers, collect their pollen, and head back to the hives. I have seen one or two occasionally go over the fence, but they seem to come back. I did all of this for aesthetic purposes and to reap the small benefit of the pollen increasing crop growth.

Trapdoors don't stop zombies from burning in the sun!

    Not in 1.13.2 anyways.

You're right! It's been awhile, and on another world I did have to put a low ceiling over the whole pit to shade the are so they wouldn't burn. Good call.

posted a message on Tips for trapping a zombie villager?

I was in the same situation, noticing zombie villagers occasionally appearing outside of my fences. What I did was dig a pit 2x3 pit, 2 block deep, with the 2 block side along my fence. I then put in 6 trap doors, leaving them open, so the mob will walk in. You stand on your side of the fence and lure them in. The trapdoors can be closed so they don't burn up.

On my side of the fence, I dug a tunnel down with ladders and to the pit for me to be able to either kill whatever fell in, or administer the cure fo zombie villagers. I am separated from them by a a one block hole. I can then open the hole wider and let out a cured villager and out into my base.

posted a message on Way to Prevent Zombie Sieges?

Just had another zombie siege on the village converted to a base. As a couple of iron golems and I took care of the interlopers, I kept hearing zombie sounds. Found this little guy glitched into the dirt. He was mad when he got out.

Zombies can break doors but they can't break fencing last I checked. Why not fence off houses so the zombies can't get to the doors? Won't help if they spawn inside the fence but it's extra protection and control of the horde.

Last week I actually saw a zombie siege horde appear, half inside and half outside, of my well fenced village that I converted into a base of operations. I also have villagers wandering around at will. Before I could get all of the zombies one of them found a house with five villagers and got them all.

posted a message on What have you done recently?

I came across a fossil assembly for the first time while gathering resources in an abandoned mineshaft. I mined out the matrix of the fossil, leaving it in place and articulated, and then created an exhibition hall like in a museum.

posted a message on Anyone have problems when getting off your horse?

This has been happening alot with my horses in 1.10.2. The other day, I dismounted close to a dirt enclosure and the horse was invisible and glitched into some blocks. I could hear it suffocating, but couldn't tell where it was. I was breaking every block I could find, and probably hitting the horse as well. Next thing you know, a saddle and leather was dropped. Adios, Fred.

posted a message on guardians without the monument

    Hey all,

I recently decided head out off into the wilderness to check out this LB world I've been working in. After crossing a huge section of ocean, I found a large island that was both wooded and had most passive animal mobs (save for horses and rabbits). I set out to make a base here on a bluff. Not too far from the bluff is a deep bay, and I happened to hear the buzzing noise of guardians. I check out and they are swimming right up to the shore and shooting lasers at me! There are many of them. When they're not shooting at me, they're busy killing off all of the schools of squid that spawn incessantly.

I can't see any ocean monument in the water, though it's possible it's so deep that I can't see it at all. My curiousity was piqued, so I tunneled down from the shore, came up under the ocean floor, and struck water. I started to put up signs to hold back the water and allow guardians to fall in where I removed the blocks. The guardians had no problem swimming in and trying to kick my ass. I wind up taking a lot of damage, and the drops gotten this way are few.

My questions are: is it possible for guardians to spawn without monuments, and what would be the best way to set up a modest guardian farm in survival without being resource heavy, and what would the kill method be?

    Thanks!

posted a message on Epic Minecraft FAIL!
I am always surprised when the fail comes down, and it's usually when I KNOW it's something I probably shouldn't be doing. The list of such incidences is unfortunately long and possibly instructional. The other day I was a short ride away from my base on the plains as it fell dark. I figured it wouldn't be a problem riding back in the dark over uneven terrain. But, there are holes all over the place and my mule and I fell into one, where we turned to see a nice creeper greeting us with a blast, to be followed by a creeper landing on us and finishing us off. Lost quality enchanted diamond gear, my mule and all he carried, the whole shebang. And I unwisely chose to not sleep nearby, so I had to rush like madman from another base hoping to find it all before it despawned. Two days and nights of looking for the blast hole with no success.

New rule: no riding after dark on gaping potholed plains.

posted a message on Living in a ravine: feasible?
Like others have said, it's totally doable.

I came across a ravine with a portion of abandoned mine exposed. I rebuilt the planking for a platform, and then built a house in the end portion. Once you clean it up and light it up, you can have a pretty good operation. The bonus with this one, of course, was the mineshafts, but you could easily set up mining operations. I eventually linked this ravine base with the main base with an underground railline that passes through on it's way out to my desert base.

posted a message on Fence Glitch?
What's worked for me and my large cattle herd is to dig a holding pit one block deep, and then put fencing all around. I access the pit by a gate. I haven't had an escapee since. It makes it very easy to breed them as well.
