    May I ask how you know how to use forge in the .json files? Is there a tutorial or link i can reference?
    It got half the texture working, but its still trying to render another texture (on top of the correct texture) which is due to the models/blocks/alter.json file... what should I put in there to prevent this?


    Also, do you know why the block correctly faces the direction upon placement, but faces north after exiting and reopening the world?

    Does anyone know how to correctly render a texture for a custom block model?
    I suspect it might involve some .json manipulation...


    I'm currently making a mod called "necromancer" -https://github.com/B1u3M0nk3y/Necromancer

    So in my main Necromancer class I register my blocks and call my ClientProxy render methods,

    In blocks/NecroBlocks I register my alter (blocks/BlockAlter) and the tile entity (blocks/tileentities/TileEntityAlter).


    in my ClientProxy (main/ClientProxy) I bind the renderer for the alter, which also calls the model.


    By playing around with some code in BlockAtler and RenderAlter (and some code in the alter.json), sometimes the block renders in a cube fashion (with the item/alter.png, the incorrect texture) instead of the right texture (models/alter.png).


    However, I can never get it to correctly render the block; sometimes the block has no texture, and renders all black.


    If you can offer any insight, it would be greatly appreciated!

    There is no replacement, it's not really deprecated. Mojang seems to be using @Deprecated to mark internal methods of Block that shouldn't be called outside of Block/StateImplementation.


    You shouldn't be calling Block#getStateFromMeta under normal circumstances anyway, the whole point of the block state system is that only the block itself cares about how property values are stored in metadata and only when it's being loaded from/saved to the world.


    Use Block#getDefaultState to get the Block's default IBlockState (if you don't already have an IBlockState), then chain IBlockState#withProperty calls to get an IBlockState with each property set to the appropriate value.

    As I'm updating my mod, I've noticed that block.getStateFromMeta(int meta) is marked as deprecated... what would I replace this with?

    For example, how would I specify what quartz block I want,

    or what direction a torch should be placed?

    Thank you for the help! It's no longer crashing, however my textures are not loading...


    So I tried using .setCustomModelResourceLocation:


    ModelLoader.setCustomModelResourceLocation(item, 0, new ModelResourceLocation(item.getRegistryName(), "inventory"));


    But I keep getting an error for all my items/blocks:

    You really register a block that doesn't exist, unless there is some part I am missing.


    Oh I have that, I just forgot to show it...
    In my main mod file I have:

    I've got everything working, except for blocks!

    My blocks do not show up in creative mode, and when I try to open a blocks creative (mod creative tab), the game crashes.

    If I try to register them to the MC creative tabs, they do not exist...


    Is there an extra step in 1.9.4 that was not needed in 1.8?

    Ah! Good question!
    When I used this mod with TreeCapitator, I would sometimes find myself cutting down a piece of my house and it would disappear (because I used logs)! So it cuts wood in the same fashion, without being classified as an "axe."
