posted a message on Quick Patch public alpha (with patches for 0.6.1)
If you have a rooted android device, you may be interested in this. Installation is a bit of a pain, but once you have it installed it's pretty nice.

    Advantages:
    • Patches are applied immediately, no need for re-installing MCPE.
    • Patch format is flexible; patches can have interactive elements.
    • Patches can be reverted to their original state.
    Disadvantages:
    • Installation is not straightforward.
    • Must have a rooted device.
    • Must be online to use alpha versions. This will change.
If you want to try it out, the installation and setup instructions follow.

Part 1 - Installing Quick Patch

    Step 1 - Install SL4A

    Install SL4A on your device.

You'll need to have "unknown sources" enabled to install it. You probably already do since your phone is rooted.

    Step 2 - Install Rhino

Run SL4A and hit Menu -> View -> Interpreters, then Menu -> Add -> Rhino.
SL4A should download the Rhino JavaScript interpreter. You may need to install the APK it downloaded by tapping the notification.

Step 3 - Install Quick Patch

Now we'll install Quick Patch. Hit back, or run SL4A again to get to the "Scripts" screen.
Hit Menu -> Add -> Rhino. Create a file named quickpatch.js, enter the code below, and save:
    load("https://raw.github.com/gist/2955835/quickpatch.js");
    main("/mnt/sdcard");

Note: You may want to change "/mnt/sdcard" to another location, such as "/cache", depending on your setup. See here. Credits to DanXCI for providing and testing the workaround.

Part 2 - Quick Patch setup

    Step 1 - Launcher

    This step is optional.
Long-press on your desktop, hit Shortcuts, hit Scripts (next to the SL4A icon), and choose quickpatch.js.

    Step 2 - Install patches

Run quickpatch.js from your launcher (or from SL4A if you skipped step 1).

Hit "Manage gists." Hit "add gist." Enter this number: 4680960

This will install win4263's collection of patches for 0.6.1.

If patches are added to a collection at a later time, you'll automatically be updated with the new patches, but keep an eye out for new gists.

Mods and tools section(s) for MCPE, for sure. Many people have been asking for this for a long time.

    ---

Other than that, I guess the gist of this thread will be:

    - A section for everything useful, so we can find it.

    - A section for everything useless, so we can ignore it.

PocketTool isn't updated yet, that's why...

More likely he updated to 0.6.1 and the mods aren't compatible. Pockettool shouldn't need to be updated except for the server IP patch, it's just going to do the same thing it always does. I'm certainly not planning on updating my thing unless someone like win4263 wants new features. ;)

Glad the anchor ad seems fixed now, probably still going to use adblock and noscript for now considering the fairly recent events concerning adverts and security.

Then there's two more at the bottom, and another possible one if I wanted to refresh for long enough.

IOW, no matter how you slice it... number of requests, amount of data transferred, screen real estate... the majority of the content served here is for advertising purposes, not Minecraft related. Once you reach the halfway point, I'd say that's enough to call it over the top.

You said to look at the console tab for the mouse logger. Which I still see no evidence of.

Yes, but you can verify the excessive network activity now, can't you. This is the last time I'm running this thing, but I'll try to get a screenshot of warnings thrown by the mouse logger.

(waiting for miles of attempts at cross-domain communication shot down by the browser...)

I'm not seeing the mouse logger anymore. It's probably out of rotation for me now.

The ad that you said "popped up" after you hovered over it requires you to hover over it for 5 seconds in order for it to pop up like that as well.....

Idk, it seemed to pop up when I wasn't doing anything actually, I just assumed it was an involuntary mouseover. I must have left the mouse there.

Also note that majority of those requests made, are not ads.

No, just scripts served by advertisers, having your browser send back requests to all over the place. They don't need to be ads to track you across sites and try to profile you as a consumer. And when you have hundreds of them going on at once, it will sometimes hang peoples' browsers. Imagine this happening in 10 tabs at once.

You're not looking at the network tab.

MCF does not have popup ads, to my knowledge..........

    They do now ;)

They don't serve the same ads each time, they rotate them. I've only gotten one popup attempt from trying this twice, but I'm not going to do this all night.

The point is, this is somewhat normal advertiser stuff, but it's a bit over the top, and what I'm experiencing could easily hang a low end device. And yes, I am absolutely positive there is not some other thing interfering or somehow coincidentally deciding to serve me ads at the exact same time I allow them from MCF. These ads aren't even targetted. These are just the ads being served, and there's a lot of them, and they can hang a browser, and it's ridiculous to infer that it's somehow the fault of the user.

I'm not seeing any of this, and AFAIK the ads used do not allow mouse tracking in their terms. Can you provide a screenshot?

Yeah, as you can imagine I can't fit all 800-odd requests in there, but hang on.

Try this, though, in chrome... ctrl+shift+n / incognito window, ctrl+shift+i / inspect, click network tab, then go to mcf.net and tell me what you see. Click console tab and watch mouse logger (served by advertiser) throw warnings every time you move mouse.

Edit: here ya go. This time it was actually worse, as you can see. I took the screenshot and closed the window after it stopped maxing out the CPU, but it was still making requests. This large ad appeared when i moused over the small ad at the top of the page.

At least one of the scripts tried to open a popup window, which Chrome blocked (little icon in the upper right).

As you can see it sent 5 megs of data this time and took almost 2 minutes to complete, and made over 1000 requests to advertisers / data miners / etc.

That is an awful lot of requests, you might have malware/adware.

    Quote from Rogue

Or you yourself just have a keylogger....

Heh, ok, I give up on you guys. The requests were there because I specifically allowed them. These are the normal requests the advertisers serve. Very little if any adware is written for the platform I'm running on, this isn't happening because of some external problem. The keylogger and mouse tracking script is served by the advertiser, and reports back to a server operated by an advertiser, and clearly shows as such in the Chromium developer console. None of this behavior is present when I use my premium account or run AdBlockPlus.

Telling users the problem is on their end, especially experienced users who know better, is wrong and you should feel bad.
