posted a message on Cat Tails (POLL: Light Pink Dye)

I'm neutral (leaning toward support) about the light pink dye but I love the idea of cattails in Minecraft.

But I can't for the life of me figure out why they would be growing out of lily pads?

posted a message on [1.9 is out!] Get ready for 1.9! [Updates and Information from Mojang AB!]

I personally hope the new Mystery Block replaces the eight Gold Blocks in Ocean Monuments.

And on the subject of Guardians: They seem to be creatures in the vein, and maybe even a reference to, Beholders. Specifically I'm thinking of "Eyes of the Deep". Speaking of which, I'm rather fond of eyeball monsters and I hope we get some more of them in Minecraft 1.9, hopefully some flying or hovering types and not just aquatic ones. Minecraft desperately needs some hostile, FLYING Overworld Mobs.

I think mob heads should remain as rare "trophy" items.

Rare? Closer to functionally nonexistent outside of creative mode. They're practicaly easter eggs!

    Quote from PlaceCraftMine»
Village: The village will be an asiatic style one. Instead of those lamps with fences and black wool, they have red lanterns, hung from the houses. Also, the villages will not have a church, but a shrine. What about the villages using a new Paper Panels Block instead of Glass Panes, too?
Bamboo: Bamboos are blocks that are only found in bamboo forests. Breaking 1 of these will give you 3 Bamboo Chutes. Bamboos don't need water to grow. They grow 1 block in 4 minutes, while they do, you can hear it make a cracking sound. Breaking a bamboo will take you 3 seconds with hands, 2 seconds with an axe and 0.5 of a second with a sword. One one question: how tall would bamboo grow? I was thinking anywhere between 10 and 15 blocks high would be about right. Also maybe bamboo should be able to spread slowly like mushrooms do.

Bamboo Chutes: Bamboo Chutes are gotten from breaking bamboo. With these you can craft planks. However, planks need 9 bamboo chutes rather than 4. Bamboo chutes can be replanted, but, unlike sugar cane, you can't stack them up. This is how bamboo chutes look like: Can we make bamboo sticks too? What about a bamboo fence equivalent?

Sakura Leaves: Sakura leaves are the upper part of the sakura tree. Sakura leaves have their own special thing. Sometimes they fall like sand! But they do not remain blocks. They look like snow, and can stack up! When leaves fall, there also is a chance of a cherry falling with it. The cherry appears in the texture. To get the cherry, you right click the patch. I like the intent but not the mechanic. A better implementation would be for Sakura petals to fall during rain and collect on the ground just like fallen snow mechanic. [Another suggestion that uses "Rain = falling leaves" is the Scarlet Forest Biome. Take a look at that suggestion for ideas how to make this work. Also, instead of clicking the cherry, simply breaking the "fallen petal" block (or use a shovel like collecting snow balls) would be simpler.

Red Pandas: Those guys will be found sitting on top of oak trees. They will give 1-2 red wool and 1 black wool. Similar with the panda mechanic, the villagers will not trade with you and iron golems will chase you. These animals are 1 block tall.

Last but not least, Pandas!: Pandas are found in bamboo forests. they are normally sitting, like steve riding a minecart. These guys do not provide meat when killed. They provide 3 black wool and 2 white wool, and, when you kill a panda, villagers will not trade with you, and iron golems in the village will start to chase you, meaning that they will kill you. Breed them with bamboo chutes. These animals are 2 blocks tall.

NOTE: Pandas and red pandas can NOT be tamed.

Yes for Pandas, No for the villager aggro mechanic.

am i the only one thinking of how brutal this idea is for young kids (i know games don't cause violence) but this is kinda unsettling for a E rated game that your beheading mobs? idk

    Quote from CraigTM»
The word "beheading" is too violent. I would opt to use the word "decapitation" for the kiddies.

"Vorpal" would be the best term for this enchantment and it's not a bad idea. Just don't make it a rare enchantment.

Actually... maybe instead of an enchantment it could be an attribute on found weapons. You know when they finally get the Attribute System installed...

posted a message on Terraforming Biomes?
Biomes (including Mushroom Island and Mushroom Shore) are hard coded into the world, but that only effects things like Mob Types, Precipitation, and Foliage Color. If you dig out all the mycellium and place back it down as dirt you can make a dirt bridge to bring grass to the island and plant trees / flowers / sugar cane and till the ground. As long as you dug all the mycellium it won't come back.

It will still only spawn Mooshrooms and Bats though so don't make a Mob grinder there.

Monster Spawners will still function as normal in Mushroom chunks if you were to find a Dungeon, Mineshaft or Stronghold under them.

I don't know about how Mushroom biome effects Slime chunks...

Also any vegetation that you plant in the Mushroom Biome will be bright, Jungle green in color.

It's like Dwarf Fortress in Minecraft! What's not to like?

It would be nice if Priest would occasionally toss a splash healing potion your way.

And the Blacksmith should probably have some part in the spawning of Iron Golems...

I you're really worried about game balance, then things like mob farms/grinders and Villagers trading diamond accouterments shouldn't be allowed in the first place. The Mojang team actually intentionally broke Golem farms in a snapshot of 1.8, but then they reverted it.

I mean, the Golem grinders are just ridiculous! At least Pigman farms require an ungodly amount of obsidian to be efficient.

And villagers. Nametags are more expensive than the diamond tools/brestplate.

    ---

As things stand right now, Villages can supply you with Diamond Swords, Diamond Axes, Diamond Picks and Diamond Breastplates. Raiding the Blacksmith chest is as likely as not to provide a couple of diamonds needed for an Enchanting Table(which lasts forever). As for Diamond Helmets, Leggings and Shoes, zombie/skeleton grinders can supply those in due time. From a game balance pov diamonds are already functionally renewable.

The only thing left is Diamond Blocks, Jukeboxes and Fireworks, none of which pose a game balance issue. (There's also the Nether Reactor if you're on PE, but that's reusable just like the Enchanting Table.)

Also they'd have to add iron nuggets and diamond shards for this to work.

    How about Diamond Dust?

Incidentally, I like this suggestion. Sometimes it would be nice to be able convert some piece of armor dropped by a skeleton, that you don't need at the moment, back into it's raw form to craft a tool that you do need. Or turn that useless gold armor/sword into a clock or a powered rail... or potion/breeding items.

    Quote from Brutus_132 jump
I'm pretty certain that you give the villager diamonds for emeralds.

You can buy a Diamond Chest Plate, Sword, Pick and Axe from the appropriate Villager. This should arguably be changed, but that's neither here or there.

    ---

As far as this suggestion goes: I wouldn't mind if Diamonds were renewable as long as they were not farmable (and were appropriately uncommon as well).

    ---

But for the sake of the argument lets say that compressing Coal into Diamond should require Coal Blocks (and probably multiple Blocks for each Diamond) as well as an advanced crafting station of some sort in order to be balanced.

posted a message on 1.8.2-pre2: Boats suck less!
Boats wouldn't be so bad if they had the possibility of dropping themselves as an item instead of always exploding into planks and sticks.

...or if there was another tier of boats that was more sturdy.

...or if boats were actually needed for crossing large bodies of water (some thing like: if you can't sprint; you can't swim or something like that).

...Boats just need a lot work in Minecraft, don't they?

This isn't a bad idea, but you need to elaborate a bit more.

    ----

As for the how it could be accomplished, I would suggest some kind of "structure" that you have to build. Maybe some kind of altar.

It should be more complex/expensive than an Enchanting Table but less complex/cheaper than a Beacon.

And it definitely needs a considerable XP cost.
