when I came back the portal was in a completely different place, I'm lost in an unknown cave system now. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yup, happened to me also. VERY frustrating... I had to dig to the surface at an angle. Ended up a very long distance from my original portal but thankfully within 200+ blocks of surface home.

ps. I cannot argue that certain words cause religious meanings to be inferred, as you said. Same goes for me, honestly. This particular case is due to a combination of history, etymology and culture, however, and has nothing to do with the original name.

Huge number of friendly mobs, much more than before the update. I kill the cows but they keep respawning... Argh!

Unfriendly mobs are also spawning in larger quantities, regardless of type. I'm not complaining about this; no doubt it will make things complicated later but the scarcity of enemy mobs in the past was frustrating.

You can make a hell portal with only 13 blocks. I found this out since I axxidently misplaced a block and tried it with only 13.

Interesting... I wonder if you can leave the corners out while preserving the portal shape and still have it work.

The fact that someone had to create a ****ing algebra algorithm to solve a bug of an important update addition is absolutely aburd.

True, but I appreciate the information non the less

Most of the names make sense, but... brimstone? Like, sulfur? Why does it glow then? Also, so much for avoiding religious references

Brimstone is just an alternate name for Sulfur. The fact that the term has been used in various religious texts and contexts does not make it religious.

posted a message on Possible Portal Workaround
I made my first (and so far only) portal just above bedrock layer (slice 6). It took me to Nether, gathered some stuff (peaceful mode) and went back through - to a random closed cavern! After digging to the surface I was about 200 blocks or more from my home and a Looooong way (both vertically and horizontally) from the portal I had created. Irritating to say the least. At least on the last 3 trips it has stayed the same; just wish it would return me to the portal I enter Nether through.

Also. I hope there are more :bookshelf: paper materials, my landscape has like none.

All you need is a single stand of reeds. That was all I was able to find but by planting everything I harvested I quickly had more than I knew what to do with. (Sorry for the off-topic comment) I doubt that the boo update will modify the quantity distribution except/unless the biomes would do so. Also, each world is generated from a random "seed", so some worlds will have more of a given resource than others will.

I'm seeing lots of people who are "new" and breaking about every single rule.

When someone points that out, everyone else becomes super-tigers and pounces on them with the excuse "OMG STOP TROLLING HE'S NEW!!!"

OK, yes I agree, you are right. Didn't think my comment was that extreme. Taking this in context - there have been a lot of pointless posts that could have been avoided had the member in question bothered to check the rules or search the site. Happens on every forum as far as I have seen. Can this be prevented? I don't see how, short of the banning some long-time members have suggested. Seems a bit excessive to my mind, however.

there will ALWAYS be trolls. this is the internet. trolls are unavoidable. the problem is this forum is FILLED with stupid children who think they know everything. that's why we get so many pointless stupid threads with little kids asking completely pointless/stupid questions, many of which have been asked repeatedly. add that with the unavoidable trolls and you've got conflict.

Very true. Period. Though we do need to consider that there are a *lot* of new players/posters, many of whom are young. We shouldn't automatically assume someone is a troll - makes for a negative experience for some new and truly naive posters.

I'd rather not speculate anymore. The update is only one day away anyway. We'll know soon enough. :iapprove:

Fair enough - and valid point.

    MrTorus,
I know you have gotten a lot of grief (to put it mildly) when you don't meet other people's expectations on this thread. That is not your fault but theirs. There are many players/readers out there (myself included) who value your efforts to provide concise yet complete progress on the Halloween Update as details become available. Thank you for your said efforts - you are to be commended!

Back on-topic: The glass-breaking sound when those gold-colored blocks are mined in "the Slip" makes it obvious that they are fragile. Potential lantern-making material perhaps?

Hell will be a parallel dimension, and will be treated as another world and map in game, parallel to the normal one. It will be stored as such in the save folder.

Edit: I agree on the unconfirmed recipes (whether any new ones will be included) - I'm hoping at least a few get included!

I am a little disappointed that none of the "sneak peeks" have shown fishing, crafting with the new blocks, etc. We'll all have our curiosity satisfied soon, however, and if Notch prefers to work on the code, balancing biomes, etc. instead of responding to our demands for more information - well, I think his priorities are in the right place! :iapprove:

Edit: Due to the time offset, October 31st 12AM in Sweden will occur at 3PM PST, 4PM MST, 5PM CST and 6PM EST on October 30th here in the US. (I don't recall anyone mentioning this on this particular thread previously)
