True! But I've only just started this world - I've only just found my first iron, let alone redstone (which I think you need to make a compass, right? o.o).
Okay, so I'm normally pretty good at knowing my way around in Minecraft. But when I found an awesome cave setup with lots of iron I decided to camp for a few nights, and abruptly forgot which direction was home. I walked a whole day in what I thought was the wrong direction... and had to camp out in a hovel overnight because I didn't recognise anything.
So I made my way back to the awesome cave, downloaded Cartographer, turned it to 'night' setting, and sure enough I saw my base camp (to the East), my camp at the awesome cave, and my hovel of the night before (to the North).
And just think... without it I might never have been able to craft my bow or reach my coal supplies!
I too am way easily freaked out by games. When I first encountered a zombie in MC I ran to my hovel and holed myself up 'til the morning, and I'm only now beginning to venture out after dark. :biggrin.gif:

I had the exact same problem... and F3+s fixed it! :smile.gif: Who'dve thunk?
