I have friends that don't get Minecraft. They ask me "What do you do in that game?"... I respond with the usual "Well kinda whatever you want. You can go and kill a bunch of Monsters or you can build something monstrous or almost anything. It's more of a game where you set your own goals and reach them."...... "Oh..."
For some people there has to be an obvious goal in the game. It's boring to them if they set their own goal. Not saying that Minecraft's style is better. Minecraft just isn't for some people. Some people like to have goals set by other people and they have the challenge of meeting those goals.
Minecraft is for people with more of a child-like imagination.

Nov 22, 2011To be completely honest I didn't really even know who Yogscast was until this whole non-sense started. I had heard their name come up but that's about it. Them saying they are a large part of Minecraft's success is EXTREMELY arrogant and after seeing pictures of them they seem smug as well.Posted in: Discussion
Plus any mature adult knows that if you are speaking publicly at an event where a decent amount of kids are in attendance you use 'PG' language. It's not a matter of right or wrong, it's a matter of respect. They clearly have gotten so full of themselves that they think they are above all of that.

Reinstalling windows is never 'due'. It's just the only solution a noob can think of when it can't find the problem.
Wrong, sometimes is more troublesome to go about fixing all the problems and it's easier to wipe the slate clean. Plus sometimes 'fixing' one problem can cause another and you can do a lot of chasing. Like when a car is totaled. Don't worry though, we get it, you're a big bad internet pro.
As for the topic of the thread. Have your reinstalled Java? There could be an issue with Java tarding out and Minecraft isn't able to find out reliably what chunks it has generated and which ones it hasn't. Also, just in case, make sure to run Minecraft.exe as admin (Right click icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Check 'Run this program as Administrator').
Nov 12, 2011It seems to me Mojang was going more for a comical "Portal Song" end discussion more then anything serious. I was laughing at some of the banter being the 2 beings. If you take anything serious from it, it should be "embrace your uniqueness and creativity, it's what makes you you."Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
It could be wickedly cut down though, it was a tad long. I read EXTREMELY slow, like not even funny slow so it was painfully long for me and the text speed almost out ran me on the long paragraphs. The thought "when is this over?" crossed my mind a few times while reading it. This shouldn't happen lol. At the very least there should be a skip button.
I don't mind the credits either, even if people don't read them it feels good to slap your name on something your proud of. You do it more for pride then to let people know you were involved. The fact that there are credits in the game doesn't bother me. If it bothers you, then you need to rethink why you are playing Minecraft. Are you in it for the game or the badge that you play the game?
My thoughts on the ending: Good Job Mojang.

Um. Okay. What is the point of the ice? Since you're walking on slow sand and not the ice, I wouldn't imagine the ice would be a factor, or why this even matters in the first place.

I've seen tons and tons of whining threads in 1.9 Discussion, as well as tons of decent people trying to deal with them, and I'd like to give each group a message or two. (Text walls closing in below.)Whiners:
Minecraft is not, and will not be "ruined" by anything Notch adds. It's his game, he made it, he has the master plan, and he is developing it according to his rules. I can understand being annoyed or worried by a recent addition, but realize that nothing he does will "ruin" this game. At best, these changes will make the game even better and extend its playability. At worst, they'll provide a slight inconvenience, that, if you have at least two brain cells, can either be ignored or fixed by easy-to-install mods.Talking in this manner, "OMG Y U NO NERF THIS, WAAA UR ALL FAGITS," or in any similar ways, is not even remotely intelligent or legible. If you wish to make a statement or express an opinion/concern, please use readable, normal English like the mean teachers at school force you to. Also, be creative if you must insult a fellow whiner who cannot be reasoned with, assuming you've risen above your brethren. For example, if you see someone dumber and whinier than you, feel free to chastise them in a witty and funny manner. For an example of the correct way to wittily insult morons, please refer to any part of the "Whiners" section of this post.Do not complain about things that have yet to be released, or to be tested personally by you. If you have yet to even see or play in Minecraft with a new feature, please keep your keyboard turned off until you have enough experience with the feature to make an accurate judgement. It's the same logic behind calling a food you've never tasted disgusting. True, I'd be very unwilling to taste what haggis is like, but I'd give it a fair shot before running for the bathroom. Also, unreleased features tend to change by the time they are fully released, so don't expect something to be exactly like it is currently when Notch finally does call it finished.Stop making threats of "I'll never buy from Mojang again! Notch doesn't get my money now!". Notch already has your cash, so you'll be the only one hurt by such an action. You took a risk in buying Minecraft, just like any other game. Whether it paid off is your decision.
The game isn't finished yet, and can drastically change whenever and however Notch wants. You bought the game in its Beta, (I refuse to believe in whiners who bought the game in Alpha the same way I refuse to believe in magical, blowjob-giving elf-women) and what you see is what you get. You could have waited until it was finished and everything was fully implemented and spit-shined, but you chose to buy it while it's still in development. In the time from now until November 11th, it could do just about anything. Hell, it could become a game about hugging all the nice, happy, harmless mobs who give you diamonds as gifts. That's just how much the game can change at any moment. I remember something Notch said ages ago when the game was more basic than now and buggier than a roach motel: "Don't get too attached to your saves." Replace "your saves" with "Minecraft and all of its features, rules, and etc," and there you go.Your word is not law. Just because you think something is bad, does not mean that everyone agrees with you. Some people may agree, and some may disagree. Some may believe what you say, and others may call you a liar. You are not always right, and thinking you are is foolish, so check to make sure that many, many others share your opinion before declaring it to be anything other than one that belongs to you and your group. And yes, I will admit than I could very well be wrong too. I have a knowledge of what whiners tend to do, as well as having the same hatred for whiners that many others I've seen do. But yet, I can still be wrong. So can you. Finally and most importantly, use your head. Don't post pointless, capital letter-filled whining when you could post a genuine, well thought-out concern. Don't yell at others for disagreeing, be nice and consider their viewpoints. You can learn a lot from others if you take the time to listen and consider their words, instead of calling them faggots and whining.
TL;DR: Be polite, rational, literate, and intelligent.
Do try your best not to stoop to a whiner's level. They are, in a sense, the troll's tactically-stunted cousin. In other words, all of the troll's trademark, attention-seeking tools in a sincerely moronic person's hands. Please try to communicate calmly and carefully with them, if they show even a remote chance of intelligent thought, manners, and reasoning. If not, feel free to contradict their points and wittily insult them, for it will all be ignored by them. At least the rational, intelligent people will have a laugh.
Thanks for your time, have a good day/night, and whiners: Shut up and Mine/Craft.
Special Message for the Moderators:
Please don't move this. I've been hanging around for a while, and 1.9 Discussion seems to be the epicenter of the whiner epidemic. I believe that a vast majority of the whiners will notice this here, rather than on other boards. If you still want to move this for not being 1.9-related, I understand, even though the whining has become so entwined with the 1.x Pre-release Discussion threads. If there is a bigger hot-spot of whining than this board, please do move this thread there for the whiners to see. Also, if you or the regular users are annoyed by the subject/description lines or the actual post, feel free to request that I change or remove them, and I will. I just want to get this message out to everyone since the whining seems to have reached apocalyptic levels.
Edit: Name changed to make it less whiner-bait-tastic.
