    1.20 - Trails & Tales
Did you know that the greatest tales of all time also feature the greatest tails of all time? It's true! Think about it. Charlotte's Web - Wilbur's tail is the best part of that tale. Lord of the Rings - Remember that part when Legolas swung around on the Oliphaunt's tail like Tarzan? OH! And let's not forget Alice in Wonderland. Remember how Alice had a tail? No? Hmmm. Must have dreamed that.

    1.20 - Trails & Tales Update

My name is Jolicoeur, so I called it Jolicraft. It's pronounced "Jolly Craft" by the way. My name means "Happy Heart", so I guess Jolicraft means "Happy Craft". So maybe I should have called it HappyCraft, because I'm generally quite happy. But I'm not always happy. Sometimes I run out of wine. Sometimes there's no hot water for my bath. Sometimes when I'm changing my son's diaper, he pees on me.Minecraft is a game about crafting the world around you. What better way to craft the world than to craft the very stuff the world is made of? I had a great time creating Jolicraft, it's so addictive to create textures and see them live in your own world. I didn't really intend to push the pack as far as I did, but damn this [profanity=""] is addictive. It's as addictive as Minecraft itself, which is saying alot. This is Minecraft people. As with life, don't take it too seriously. A good plentiful helping of Jolicraft will wash the dust away from your dreary world.

Why did you make this 16x16? Wouldn't it be awesomer if it was 32x32 or 128x128 or 1080x1080?I love 16p texture packs. It seems the perfect resolution to match the style of Minecraft. The purposefully crude low-res pixel crafting nature of the game was simply made for 16x16 textures, anything more just feels weird - like drinking red wine while eating hotdogs. Which Notch does every morning at the breakfast table. Although I'm sure one day I'll be bored and play around with a 32x32 version, just for the fun of it.Can you please add more sidegrass?Let me explain why this is almost no sidegrass on Jolicraft dirt. I like sidegrass in many texture packs. Sometimes it works and looks great for the type of grass & dirt they've created. But Jolicraft dirt is different. It's firm and scoopable. The grass is a thin layer on top of the dirt, so more sidegrass makes no sense as it either makes the grass layer feel thicker than I want or it makes the thin grass all droopy. Think of my dirt like cake with icing on top, so when you scoop through it the grass doesn't instantly hang down the side, it stays firm. And the grass overhangs just a tiny bit to cast a slight shadow down the side of the dirt. It's that crisp edge that makes Jolicraft dirt different from other dirt. It's not that I'm against sidegrass in general, just sidegrass in Jolicraft.I asked you to change a texture and you didn't. What gives?I'm sorry. You had good intentions in suggesting a change, but I didn't care for it. Don't be angry! I don't care for lots of stuff that other people like. And I care for lots of things that other folk don't like. And I'm neutral to things that many people aren't neutral to. What a world! Does that answer your question?I'm making my own pack or map, and I want to use a texture from your pack. Can I?I get lots of requests from folks asking if they can use specific textures in their packs and maps. I don't mind if you use any of my textures, help yourself and enjoy! But I just ask that if you do use something I've made that you state somewhere in your thread what you used of mine, and include a link to this thread via the Jolicraft logo (http://img607.images.../5724/sig5f.png). And I STRONGLY encourage you to not rely on anything I've made. Making a few textures doesn't take long. It's much more satisfying to create something original than to rely on someone else's creations. Wouldn't you agree? What's wrong with you?Once when I was young I pushed a toothpick into my ear and it went all the way in and didn't come out. I've not been quite right since then.

    Hello Andre,

I saw the jolicraft HD is updated on bedrock marketplace but not good old Jolicraft. Do you know when will be updated?

I play mainly in switch so I'm unable to use the HD textures even on 16.

Jolicraft HD also includes original Jolicraft, and also a scaled-down version of the HD pack specifically for performance on the switch (the 64x option). Are you saying you can't use it on your switch, even if you enable the 16x version?
    Quote from com_BOY»

I don't think the 16× version included with Jolicraft HD would perform any differently. However, I am also wondering about updates. The original Jolicraft listing has been removed from the Marketplace in favor of Jolicraft HD. Does this mean we have to purchase the pack a second time just to receive updates?

That's Microsoft's doing. They won't let me have both the standard version and the HD version separately (they have a policy about not having different 'versions' of a texture pack available as separate purchases). Their only option for me was to include the 16x version as part of the new version. There MIGHT be a way for me to update the old version, even though it's not available to purchase, for those who have already purchased it. I'll look into that. For now though, unfortunately, yeah you'll have to buy the HD version even though you bought the old version. I'd give it to you for free if I could but I don't have that power. I can guarantee that the new version WILL keep getting updated, I plan on making sure Jolicraft up to date as long as I'm alive! (no plans to die any time soon btw)

Any idea when the HD pack will be updated for 1.19 on bedrock? I downloaded the pack on my PS5 and the 16x will work, however, the game crashes if I try to use or run the 64 or 128 HD resolutions. I’m assuming it’s because they need to be updated? Any idea when this may happen?

The HD pack has been VERY SLOW through the queue of the Microsoft team. I submitted it over 2 months ago and I just FINALLY got word today that it'll release on Tuesday of next week. So sorry for the delay!

Hello, love the pack! i was wondering where i can find those alternate textures? i checked my download and could only find GUI and glass alts, as opposed to the rest shown in the image.

Yeah that pic is outdated. Sorry. Here's a link to all the alts that I've collected:

    JOLICRAFT HD!

NOW AVAILABLE FOR BEDROCK! Check it out in the Minecraft Marketplace, or

This has been a LONG time in the making, and I'm super excited to finally be able to share it with you. It's the same Jolicraft charm that you love, but with hand-drawn HD blocks, mobs, items... EVERYTHING!

PLUS, if you buy the HD version, you'll get Classic 16x Jolicraft as part of the download, which you can toggle in the Resource Packs settings.

Java users - SIT TIGHT! A Java version will be coming eventually, soon enough, but not super soon. It's going to be a lot of work to port it to Java, and I need a break for a bit (with the C&C update and launching HD I've earned a bit of a vacation!). I'll let you know when I have some Java Jolicraft HD goodness to share.

Also, I should mention, that I will ALWAYS give regular old 16x Jolicraft priority. I made the HD version because I know many folks like HD packs (and I like to make money from those people!), and I had a lot of fun making it, but I personally only use 16x packs because they fit the Minecraft vibe way better. Classic 16x Jolicraft will always be my first love.

I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

This is a weird request, but any plans on making a PBR addition to the base texture pack so that textures have a little bit of depth. I've attached an image to show what I mean although that one is a little more aggressive than what I mean. You can also see it in the beginning of this video . Either way this is one of the best texture packs and a can't wait for new updates.

Nope! That's a ton of work. I WISH I had the time to do that, it looks amazing, but that would only be possible if there were two of me :P

I hope regular old Jolicraft is good enough!

Glad you've stuck around. My intention is to keep Jolicraft alive FOREVER, so come back any time :)

Thanks Joliceur, not only for creating this wonderful pack but keeping it updated through all the years. Looking forward to 1.17; Jolicraft is one of the essentials I wait on before moving to a new patch.

Albeit, I've made a lot of small modifications to your pack to suit my own needs. I've got a few technical questions:

    1) What program do you use to create the textures?

    2) In many parts of your textures, on flat surfaces (i.e. places that don't have fine details e.g. wool, stone, interior of wood planks, etc), there's a lot of small variance in shading. Do you use a tool to achieve this effect or is it done by hand?

I ask this because when I make my own textures, I can't get the shading to look right and it always comes out as overly cartoonish or low-resolution compared to yours. An apt comparison might be the difference between Legend of Zelda 1 and 3 graphics. I end up relying on mix-and-matching parts and colorization tools instead. Any insight would be appreciated.

    1. Photoshop, but honestly any digital painting program would do. GIMP and Krita are great free alternatives. It's not the program that makes a good texture, it's the method.

    2. I've done a few tutorials. I made some texture painting tutorials back in the day. They're outdated from a technical standpoint but there are some good tips for painting textures (link https://www.youtube.com/user/doodlemachineDOTcom).
    ALSO

I have a NEW art channel and I've done a few Minecraft videos, with more on the way (including a basic "how to paint pixel textures" video!). Subscribe so you don't miss it!

Always nice nabbing stuff for free on the marketplace. Sadly I don't think those skins will work with Java though, only the Bedrock versions support HD skins.

Anyway just posting to give a heads-up: there's a patch coming out this Thursday which is adding a "Social Interactions" menu when playing multiplayer. From what I can tell, here are the new textures which need to be added:

    1. There's a new texture in the gui folder called social_interactions.png

    2. A new tutorial icon has been added to toasts.png next to the wood icon

Here's a couple more issues to fix, too. I've put them inside this spoiler.

Simple issue to spot with the bed here. One half of the bottom texture is flipped incorrectly. (I'm pretty sure it's like this on all the beds, too)

Comparing how the chests look with 1.14 Jolicraft:

    vs. how they look now:

It looks like you made some small mistakes when you updated the chests for 1.15. For the single chest the interior is oriented upside down (rotated 180 degrees) from how it used to be, similar to that issue the ender chest had a while ago. (the exterior textures are all vertically mirrored too, but that's not really important.)

The bigger issue here is the double chest's interior texture though. It's pretty jarring to see that in-game once you notice it for the first time.

The double trapped chest's interior is also upside down from what it used to be.

Ah thank you! I'll add these to the to-do list. I've started on the previous list you kindly provided. I'll have it ready soon!

Hey Andre (or do you go by Jolicoeur?), just passing by to tell you how much I admire your work.

I've been a loyal user of Jolicraft for years. It's always pure joy to check the website looking for the newest version and see it already there. I love — better: I worship — the art, I love everything about it, and it complements the game like a superpower. Jolicraft takes up a huge part of the game's merit to have kept me playing for years. The pack is literally the biggest ally of my whole experience with Minecraft.

I've just read the "About" page on the website and it just made my relationship with Jolicraft so much better. It verbalizes very precisely the state of mind the pack brings: joy. I'm very happy you are "addicted", as the text says, to designing it. I'm truly very happy to read that. I hope we keep walking side by side as the next versions roll out; me, from Brazil, by admiring your art; you, from wherever you live — France? Because of Jolicoeur? —, by designing it.

I honestly believe I'm not the only long-term admirer. I felt the need to pass by and tell you my relationship with your work for 3 reasons: it's very true; I value giving feedback to artists; and the last paragraph of the "About" page told me, the reader, to do exactly what I'm doing right now.

Hope you are well during the virus. Bye!

Thank you sooooo much my friend! You're too kind. This is why I made Jolicraft in the first place. I hate the default look of Minecraft, with it's candyshop clashy colours and old ugly lazy textures. And I was always so frustrated finding a texture pack I loved, but then the creator would stop updating or take it in a different direction. Every time Minecraft would be updated, it's a whole new cohort of texture packs that wouldn't follow and would fade into obscurity. I vowed long ago to keep Jolicraft updated for the latest version of Minecraft FOREVER. Jolicraft will always be there to join you on your adventures :)

I'm from Canada, btw. Andre' Jolicoeur is the name, but I don't speak a word of french. My parents passed on the name but not the language. :P

Thank you a thousand times for reaching out! It means a lot.
