Thank you so much for the update! The mod is now fantastic!
Glad you like it. I am working on fixing the mechanics of replacing liquids on breaking before I release the next version, but I already implemented the option for the powered sponges to replace liquids.
Apr 13, 2013Posted in: Minecraft Mods
Can I have a second option in the settings for the powered sponges?
I would like to tweak the settings so that normal sponges do not replace liquids, but powered sponges do when switched off.
I:"Sponge absortion (blocks)"=4
B:"Sponges replace liquids on breaking"=false
B:"Powered sponges replace liquids on off"=true
This would help to create hidden passages or evil traps.
Sure I will take a crack at that tonight.

I am no longer supporting this mod. Konitor is taking it over from here. Here is a link to his mod post.
Don't you hate having to carry around all those tools to do stuff? Here is your solution, straight from the nuclear age! The Paxle! A combination of pickaxe, axe, and shovel! Comes in five different colors to match your outfits! (Just kidding, it comes in each material type). There is one side effect though, because of all that space age technology, they tend to fall apart in half the time. But do not fear because you can make as many as you like for the low price of installing the mod!
v1.0.0 Adf.ly / Mediafire / Source
v1.0.0 - Creation! Includes the five paxles and thats about it.
-All ids are configurable in the config file!
-Made with real lead!

I love you.
I love you more
Well Done! Works perfectly now. Would it be possible to add option in config file to turn off update notifier for those of us who prefer to check for updates manually? Thanks again for this very useful mod.
Sure I will add it into my notes for the next release.
On that note, I officially have nothing (other than that config option) to make a new update with... Anyone got any ideas?
Apr 11, 2013New version up! Added update notifier (tells you if there is a newer version), powered sponges, and made the liquid replacement on block breaking a config option (if you have issues, try deleting the config and letting it regenerate).Posted in: Minecraft Mods

A config option would be great. Thanks for your time creating this mod!
Okay I will try and work on that now.
I can see that spitting out the water makes sense. But spitting out lava might be deadly.
The source-block trick works well if one wanted the world restored to old appearence after taking the sponge away.
I can think of a hidden door, where the sponge is placed by some block putting device (eg PC dispenser + gold don't know the name right now) and taking it away with a block breaker. After using the former hidden door (by lava?) the sponge is transported back to the "block putter" and the door is hidden again.
Storing the water/lava cells in some 3d array and putting it out again afterwards is some nifty code which I do not want to be cancelled quickly. Just think about it. Maybe there should exist another kind of sponge, the "void suckers" which do not give back water/lava sources when broken and which are crafted from normal sponge by adding something valuable.
If the "source-block-trick" is the same with lava as with water, the obsidian sponges could be used to duplicate lava sources by sucking up non-source lava and breaking them (carefully!). Atm there is no other method I know of to get infinite lava. This would be one.
Imagine the evil lava pit where two hidden lava sponges immediatly set a whole area under lava!
It actually works by inserting clear blocks wherever lava (or water) is found within the radius of the sponge. When you break the sponge, it replaces all the clear blocks that have water/lava or air above them (which would be the top level of the replaced blocks) and then the liquid falls to fill in the rest.

Mediafire file hosting returns an error while trying to download mod file. Can you please reupload on a different hosting? Thanks.
Can download from all links except latest version
Haven't had anyone else say anything but here is a dropbox link.

Can you help? I can't get my sponges to work. I used Magic Launcher to install it, putting the .zip file in the mods folder. Did I do it wrong? *EDIT* The lava sponges work, just not the water.
Do you have forge installed? I haven't tried magic launcher in combination with my mods so I am not sure of the problem.

I assumed that when you remove the sponge after it has replaced the water, that the water would not return but that is not the case. Tested in a small pond hoping that when I removed the water and then the sponge, there would just be a void where the water once was.
Ah okay, should I make it a config option or a separate sponge?

Same happened to me. Needs a fix!
Hmm I will have to take a look into it. I might have some free time this evening to run tests. Are you guys saying that you dont want it to replace any water? If you do that and you place it near the top of the water, it will leave depressions in the water where the sponge was if you remove it.

After clearing out my underwater base I removed the sponges.
OMG! Water sources everywhere! The sponges seem to replace the sucked water as source blocks when broken. Resulting in a flooded base. Silly me tried to suck up bordering water with another sponge. When removing this one, even more water sources laughed at me.
So I had to clear out everything with dirt-layers, building dirt-walled chambers until the last water source was gone.
Now, what is the point of using sponges when they spit out everything (and more) when broken?
I'm faster when clearing out the base with dirt right from the beginning than dealing with additional water sources. Apparently any water (flowing or source) is given back as source when the sponge gets broken.
Have you updated to v1.1.0? That update should have fixed that and added some other things.

Cool mod I was hoping Jeb would find a way to implement this because atm underwater building is a extreme pain.
Would you kindly rename the download so that I can see the MC version it is for and the mod version at the same time? Sure, now its for MC 1.5.1, that is as clear as water is. But I hope this mod will get updated as MC steps forward. Already now my mods folders on different computers make it a hazzle to determine wether this is the old or newer mod version.
Maybe something like
for the moment. This would really help us "hand-modders" who don't use modpacks.
I will look into that.
