Sounds like he jumped straight into minecraft without any idea about the minecraft community. What he needs right now is a friend's helping hand to lead him through his confusion and disappointment. It was 2 years before I was even allowed to go on public servers, and even then I was a fish out of water. He needs a friend to stick with him while he plays publicly, if he needs it.

About the finding good servers part, listen to the people above. Also really do the research, and find the right community. Minecraft servers are a great place for people of the same interests to have fun together, and most servers are good about greifers, because nobody likes them!

    Hope it all works out!

(Mineplex and Hypixel as mentioned above are really good places to start)

posted a message on do you think minecraft is getting boring?
For me, I have recently found a great public server with awesome people and an economy, so my interest has sparked again. But weeks ago I tried to start a new survival, and I just couldn't do it. I played for maybe an hour, but then deleted the world because I saw it going nowhere. The thing that keeps me playing now is the people I meet through minecraft.

Don't get me wrong, I will still play minecraft, but we need something radically new. The game has to become more challenging for the veteran player.

posted a message on The Multiple Attractions of Minecraft!
Here is what I am starting to notice:

    • Servers are more appealing than LAN
    • Fighting and surviving the night are the least popular
    • Building in both survival and creative are very popular
    • The End and the Nether are liked/disliked the same amount
More patterns will occur with more data, but most are averaging above 3 for the time being.

    Explanations and ratings in spoiler:

Exploration: 2. Worlds are extremely repetitive and I rarely feel like I have a reason to explore outside of getting out of a biome I don't like, getting to a biome I don't like, or finding a specific type of tree or sapling.

This is a good point. After a while there is no reason to explore, because you know what every biome looks like.

There is so much one can do in Minecraft, making it hard to make this poll. Everyone plays Minecraft differently, and finds different things interesting. I want to see what the larger community feels. Please think about this before answering the poll. For me, the surviving, building, and fighting is why I personally still play Minecraft today!

If you feel there is more to Minecraft to what I have listed (I certainly feel there is), please tell me. Also let me know why some aspects appeal to you more than others, and also what you could live without.

posted a message on Is the minecraft community becoming stale/boring
I feel like people need to return to the core of what made minecraft fun in the first-place: building!!!! I just returned to a HUGE project on my personal server and it is incredibly tedious... but fun. I feel like I have returned to what minecraft appealed to me in the first place.

On the community front, I love building statues and civilization with friends. I definitely agree that big public servers have lost that. Minecraft is not a game to make money off of. All of those who think they can are in the wrong place.

posted a message on Is it safe to host a server 24/6?
I have the exact same set up you do except it runs 24/7. I have a feeling I run mine too much, but yours should be fine.

(I have a feeling previous comments are a lot more useful so take their advice)

posted a message on Do you hate hackers?
The reason I don't like hackers (especially on mini game servers) is because they use hacks to win mini-games. Then when I confront them they say nothing. I don't mind if you hack, but if you use it to get an upper-hand on other players that's crossing a line for me.
I have to say though people shouldn't be so quick to call someone a hacker. I've been called a hacker almost constantly, and the language they use against me is abusive! They use every word in the book, and threaten me. I mean, being called a hacker is a compliment, but the abuse is intense. You should really think before you start abusing them for being a hacker, because words hurt.

posted a message on Question about minecraft servers.
Be careful if you have bukkit, the situation between mojang and bukkit is confusing. From some people I've heard bukkit won't update past 1.7.10 and from others they say that's wrong all I know is that I have a bukkit server and none of our plugins have been able to update to 1.8 yet. If you have a vanilla server ignore everything i just said because it wont affect you.

And listen to everything anomie has said we didn't back up our server and it had a major crash... It wasn't fun.

posted a message on What do you do to stay interested in minecraft?
When I hit a bump in minecraft I spend time playing maps, and/or battle on various mini-games on public servers, such as Survival Games, Bridges, One In The Quiver, Turf Wars etc. I also start playing more LAN with friends, and I also have competitions with them, such as building contests, or a survival world together with no truce. With no truce, we can steal each other stuff and destroy each others bases.

    Hope this helps!

    Quote from pefan»
sorry but dirt is by far the worst and ugliest block in the game to be honest what that house needs is a tnt attack just blow it up

(last time i was on a sever and the person made a dirt house we had to blow it up) (it was funny heh heh)

The block dirt wouldn't seem as ugly if it was called "earth" not "dirt" You can actually do a lot with dirt, and it only seems ugly because it reminds us of real life dirt.

Your brother should be proud of it and by all means live in it!

posted a message on Are Pixels needed?
If you are wondering if pixels are necessary for skins, my answer is yes, they are. Without pixels the player wouldn't look like it belonged in the minecraft world. Plus, it is so much easier for the average minecrafter to make a personal skin, with pixels creating a grid. Otherwise, we would all be wearing the same few skins, or maybe there wouldn't be custom skin makers at all.
