Hexalobular posted a message on Will my world update from 1.7 to 1.8 when the update comes out?It depends on how much of it you have explored.Posted in: Discussion
Basically any chunk that has ever been loaded (up to 256 blocks away from anywhere you've ever been (depending on your render distance)) has already been generated in 1.7 (or earlier) and won't change when you update, any chunks that you've never been near before you update will be purely 1.8. So the new rocks will, I believe, only be found in the new chunks.
Apparently there are exceptions including, the new water temples and guardians are supposed to be able to be generated in old chunks as long as you haven't spent very much time there (5 minutes?) Bunnies should be able to spawn in old chunks (but are likely to be much more common in new chunks), existing villagers are supposed to keep their existing trades but new villagers will use the new trades.
The new crafting recipes will of course work anywhere.
I believe there will be a fix for some methods of overlapping villages such that some massive iron farms can't be built in 1.8 but can be kept running (with some luck) if they were built in 1.7
I haven't been keeping tabs on the snapshots so I don't really know what else will be changing. -

Close this top per OP original request. Too many kids think they can speak to Adults in the way that they do and it's wrong. Go to bed kids, go to bed.
How rude and ugly that sounds. You are posting on a forum and wanting people to talk to you. When you don't get the results you want you do what little children do. Namely COMPLAIN. Any doubt that you are a mature adult has now been removed from my mind. -

This is funny because, I am noting that it's not worth my time posting because of the age group I'm speaking with. Once you become an adult and hit my age range. you will look back and realize that they are always wrong.
You sir, are like the costumer who bought a cheap car with a free life time service contract, and complaining about a russian radio (yea sure a fancy one) doesnt fit in the new freshly installed cockpit.

Minecraft has been bought by millions of players since 2010 also on the promise they'd get future updates for free. So Mojang is actually ethically obligated to keep the ball rolling.
Let me stop you right there, did you happen to read the Terms of Use when you purchased the game?
https://minecraft.net/terms
What You Get For Purchasing
When you purchase Minecraft you do so as is, be it in the early stages of development or already fully released. Subsequent updates are only an added bonus and not a guarantee, as icing on a cake. Purchases during the development of the game are discounted and include the full game upon release.
As we at Mojang strive towards releasing updates for our projects we cannot guarantee that any project will ever be completed and/or provided support for. There's always the risk of a project being discontinued at any time.

What exactly did they upgrade on the engine? I've had the same fps for all updates except this one, which dropped my fps by about 6.
They rewrote air and made some useless laggy filters. I don't really see why they bothered. I do, however, like all the content they added.
I know that MogMiner rewrote the rendering engine, and that is how they were able to add colored glass, but that's about it. -

There are no performance upgrades that you as a player will even notice, they're obligated to supply new content to the game for "Free" we've already paid for the game, this company has made over 500million in sales don't tell me it's for "FREE" They keep updating the game so they can draw in more players, it's all about $$$.
First off, let's set this straight that Mojang is not "OBLIGATED" to do anything. You (and the rest of us in the MC community) deserve NOTHING from them.

Mojang didn't care about the modding community when they re-wrote huge parts of the code, they knew it would take months possibly for the modding community to catch up. They didn't care, why ? Because they don't care about you, they only care about new players that will buy the game and play single player.
Creating the modding API is a ginormous project. The best way to achieve this is in stages. This means that with each stage, mods won't work. Just because mods don't work, doesn't mean poor code was used in the update. Mods won't work if a change is made to the original code, whether it is a bad update or a good update.
I've worked as a programmer for over a decade. I have an understanding of the software development life cycle and how these things work on a large scale. If you ever decide to become a software programmer (of any type) and get a large project, you'll understand why these things happen the way they do. Trust me, programmers don't like it either, but until a new revolutionary way is invented to update computer programs, this is just the way it is going to be in the current state of the game. -

Are you a programmer? Just asking because I am and I know that it can be *very* hard sometimes to keep the API stable if you want to do big improvements. Sometimes it just is better to make a fresh start and clean up a lot of code. It is unfortunate that mods break but if they didn't do this then they probably would have had to stick with old code/API and I can imagine that this can make it harder to do future updates to the game.
So breaking stuff sometimes is the best solution. Look at it as an investment in the future. It may temporarily set us back but hopefully it will be worth it in the end.

Tetshio posted a message on Minecraft vs. Garrys ModIt's all up to personal preferences. I have friends who play g-mod. I have friends who play Minecraft. I've played both but I like Minecraft more. I can't say I don't like g-mod but I don't play it often as when I play with Minecraft.Posted in: Discussion -

I don't think people realize how hard it is to make a game and how hard it is to provide updates that the community will enjoy. Mojang is doing an excellent job of keeping up to date with the community requests, so give them a break.
Also there could be no mods at all. If Mojang really wanted to, they could file copyright claims on all the major modding communities, but they don't because they care about mods and modders.

Once you delete the folder, Minecraft will simply download itself again. There is no need to redownload the Minecraft icon (for future reference, this is called the launcher)

If people are smart, they will be able to see through the noobs, and who cares anyways. There is tons of noobs on youtube and nobody really complains about it. They just move on with their life.
