Perhaps quicksand could have a unique property other non chest block types don't

all items that fall in it are preserved and don't despawn, but this could be a feature exclusive to quicksand only

meaning any item that falls outside of quicksand, whether the player died or not, is still on a 5 minute timer.

The disadvantage? quicksand is not as convenient as chests, because chests actually let you see what items have been preserved or protected.

With quicksand all sunken items remain hidden from view, meaning players would need to dig them up to retrieve them again.

Also, all dropped items in quicksand could still be vulnerable to being destroyed by Creeper or TNT explosions, or nearby cactus.

    Ooh, even better!

Imagine going digging for treasure like this in an adventure map..

I've been a big fan of world generation and new biomes I would say 1.7 and the upcoming 1.17 part 2 with the new mountain generation and cave generation. New generation just adds so much to explore.

It definitely does, but a lot of people miss the pre 1.7 post 1.8-beta design with 10 biomes. It was much simpler back then.

I already have an idea to make quicksand with the new powder snow and I am 100% sure there is some way to make quicksand with cobweb. Although still, I like the idea of maybe having quicksand as a block instead of making a big Redstone contraption

Neat ideas, and yeah, that's a point. Maybe quicksand could be crafted from sand + powdered snow?

    Quote from stresschicken»

I like the idea, especially the second part  however I feel like there are already too many "useless" food sources in the game (they fill hunger, so not completely useless, but why eat something with lower saturation and no additional benefit) and the dandelion would just become one of them. Unless it comes with an additional effect, like attracting bees, or other mobs for a shot period of time. Could be interesting for sure!

Great addendum. Eating dandelions makes rabbit not scared of you, and brewing a potion from them and drinking it makes them follow you until it expires. The inverse of it is just null.

posted a message on is it me or is this game just...

I've personally never had an issue with the additions to the game in terms of affecting the player's control of the story.

However, it is so very tempting nowadays to just explore and adventure endlessly for the numerous structures in the game, rather than stay put and develop something. I know Agri and a few other people say we have too few structures even now, but for me, there's been too many since at least 1.13. I find it hard to explore without getting sidetracked and distracted by the shiny shiny all the timey wimey.

I can't say they're evil spirits, if they were they'd be hostile and not neutral.

They're classed as a monster mob for some strange reason even though they don't harass you unless you hit them or look at them without wearing a pumpkin.

I would not call them evil or even afterlife-y. They're just their own sentient evolution much like piglins and villagers and guardians.

They are terraforming explorers in my eyes - ender pearls, warped forests, block picking, and the way chorus trees work, would all seem to suggest this.

That's not what i'm thinking about. I am even suprised that witches are in the game, the more we talk about them.

The issue i have is that witches resemble woman. (despite mojang claiming to have genderless mobs)

That's why i oppose your suggestion. If the method to befriend them where to equip a cat suit i wouldn't.

    This is too edgy.

And you might argue that certain illagers (mybe vindicators?) resemble men more closely than women, but they are still in the game.

My problem with this is that you are forcing the will of a sentient mob, evil or not, that's not okay. Attacking is one thing, manipulating is another, brainwashing a third. Unzombifying a villager is decidedly not the same thing, not even zombifying one on purpose since there is no will involved.

Of course you could argue that Piglin are simply greedy and will take whatever they can get their hands on,

but if that's the case, if they are so greedy, why are they engaging in bartering? bartering voluntarily, is the opposite of greed.

I get more the impression that they go 'well fine, you scratch my back, I scratch yours' kind of deal. Reluctantly tossing something they don't need in order to be 'fair' rather than willingly and eagerly trading. Instead of having a dialog window, you just throw stuff at each other. Doesn't sound super polite.

But they can spawn close by, close enough to start aggroring you as soon as they notice you using a chest, it means any chest not just ones that exist in nether fortresses or bastions. It could be a barrel, an ender chest or trapped chest.

Me and pals of mine have found solutions however, we build bunkers to shield ourselves temporarily while opening a chest.

If it wasn't for armour in the game though, Piglin would kill you almost every time because of the insane amount of damage their weapons do. Most players are not god tier enough to survive being raided by a group of Piglin without wearing armour. And unless you get to the portal before they do, you're screwed.

What about minecarts with chests or donkeys with chests? Do they attack those?

    Item frames?

    There are always alternate solutions...

I do agree though that the mechanic is quite poor.

the best part about the nether update is the bastions and the newer biomes, but beyond that they didn't change much.

Also Piglin aren't programmed to recognize their own chests, they attack you for opening your own ones also which is lame.

this means it is not safe anywhere to use an Ender chest except for in Warped forests or inside Netherack cave systems.

The worst thing you could possibly do in the game is make a feature useless.

It's not that hard to get distance between you and piglins, I find. Or to just build an extra portal.
