I find it interesting as you typically seem to be against nerfing things.
I do agree though that bed should have this functionality in the nether reduced or even removed. Though if they do, I'd like to see some function replace it that isn't just "not usable" to keep the idea in mind that day and night doesn't flow here, and that they aren't hospitable dimensions.
Beds were added at a time that the nether didn't really have ores, and for the sake of being a harsh penalty to unsuspecting first time attempts, so them being cheaper TNT didn't matter at the time. Now that the nether has a very rare, but blast resistant material, it does.

Ooh, even better!
Imagine going digging for treasure like this in an adventure map..

It definitely does, but a lot of people miss the pre 1.7 post 1.8-beta design with 10 biomes. It was much simpler back then.

Neat ideas, and yeah, that's a point. Maybe quicksand could be crafted from sand + powdered snow?

Great addendum. Eating dandelions makes rabbit not scared of you, and brewing a potion from them and drinking it makes them follow you until it expires. The inverse of it is just null.

I've personally never had an issue with the additions to the game in terms of affecting the player's control of the story.
However, it is so very tempting nowadays to just explore and adventure endlessly for the numerous structures in the game, rather than stay put and develop something. I know Agri and a few other people say we have too few structures even now, but for me, there's been too many since at least 1.13. I find it hard to explore without getting sidetracked and distracted by the shiny shiny all the timey wimey.

I would not call them evil or even afterlife-y. They're just their own sentient evolution much like piglins and villagers and guardians.
They are terraforming explorers in my eyes - ender pearls, warped forests, block picking, and the way chorus trees work, would all seem to suggest this.

And you might argue that certain illagers (mybe vindicators?) resemble men more closely than women, but they are still in the game.
My problem with this is that you are forcing the will of a sentient mob, evil or not, that's not okay. Attacking is one thing, manipulating is another, brainwashing a third. Unzombifying a villager is decidedly not the same thing, not even zombifying one on purpose since there is no will involved.

I get more the impression that they go 'well fine, you scratch my back, I scratch yours' kind of deal. Reluctantly tossing something they don't need in order to be 'fair' rather than willingly and eagerly trading. Instead of having a dialog window, you just throw stuff at each other. Doesn't sound super polite.

What about minecarts with chests or donkeys with chests? Do they attack those?
Item frames?
There are always alternate solutions...
I do agree though that the mechanic is quite poor.

It's not that hard to get distance between you and piglins, I find. Or to just build an extra portal.
