there would be no point in the game if your stuff stayed there for longer there would be no point. The whole point of survival is not to die. Personally i think your stuff should disappear instantly so you actually have to not die.

    Also mind the :SSSS:

I wouldn't necessarily mind this if the game actually functioned properly. The trouble is if I'm hauling diamond around in the middle of nowhere and suddenly I turn into a pink mist coating a crater due to an invisible creeper, or other mob, that's a bit unacceptable.

If I choose to fight something, or I see it coming and fail to protect myself, or even I don't see it but *could have* had I turned around, that's one thing. As it stands, I've encountered as many invisible mobs as visible, and it's just a tremendous pain in the ass.

This method of payment might bring a lot of success to notch. People with no credit cards or PayPal accounts could simply mail in money. =( a lot of other online game producers offer this.

How many gaming companies ask for cash payment ? Unless his game gets released into stores for sale, it should remain as is. It's too much work for Notch to have to deposit cash, cash checks, etc. when he can just have it set up that you need to use a credit card or paypal.

Pay By Cash isn't a concept, it's a company. Again... they accept cash, they do not pay their clients in cash, ergo there is absolutely no reason why this SHOULDN'T also be an option.

From what I am aware, Pay By Cash is a service where you mail THEM the money and they electronically send the money to Notch. So no, he's not going to have wads of greasy bills in his mailbox. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this, given that it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference to anyone involved, aside from those who could then use it to play the game.

posted a message on Cactus Farm
Just out of curiosity, as I haven't encountered more than 1 cacti on any world I've played on (I tend to build up/down not out). And that one was brought to town by another player on my server. What is the deal with a cactus? Why would people even care to farm them. Is it just for their damaging properties? They're not particularly pleasant to look at.

Only those who can't get a decent browser. Why can't they get a decent browser? Because they can't browse without a decent browser.

What? I think Linux needs a new champion, this one broke.

The "OS War" thing is completely retarded, you bleating on with your strawmen doesn't make anyone like or respect you more. You use linux? Great. I know children who use linux, unless you're mentally disabled, you're not special. Just accept that people like something you don't. As for your argument that M$ is this evil corporation that owns the world, what sort of processor are you running, just out of curiosity? I'm assuming your local mom and pop CPU manufacturer's newest model, right?

No, I am using good hardware. Your point is invalid. Runs fine != efficient. I can squeeze more out of my computer on Ubuntu than on Windows. And this isn't only the reason.
    http://www.whylinuxisbetter.net/

I know the benefits of using linux, I use linux on my old machines at home because it allows me to actually continue using them for various purposes. I understand that linux has it's benefits, the Minecraft server I run is on linux. My point was simply just to highlight your hypocrisy at speaking of Microsoft using big scary terms meanwhile your CPU is surely from one of the two major corporations out there that manufacture them, I'm not entirely surprised that you missed the sarcasm.

I don't remember saying anything about the performance of linux or windows, but ever the fanboi, you're going to attribute that argument to me anyway, and then refute it. Gold star for you I guess. Are you finished now? Or do you have a few more pages of looking like a complete and utter tool to get out of your system?

posted a message on Both camps of Notch Defense/Rage are wrong.
The problem is, the majority of "defenders" regard anything that isn't sycophantic praise as an AFFRONT TO OUR GOD.

The fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter how his day has gone, or how he's feeling, or how hard it is, the relationship between Notch and the masses changed fundamentally the second he started taking money. He's not just "that cool indie developer" anymore, people have expectations (reasonable or unreasonable) and when he doesn't live up to them, they are within their rights to get upset about it. If he didn't charge for the game I'd be right there with the NDL telling people to **** off and whine elsewhere, but those days are no more.

It may sound biased on my part, and maybe it is, but I think the ball is in the court of the "notch defenders". There will always be complaints about the game, and those complaints need voicing, but they do *not* need to knee-jerk react to each one of those complaints. I think if that end of things came to an end, we'd see the discussion get a lot more civil around here.

posted a message on I have a simple question...
I believe the saves are separated into folders rather than files, but I mess with the server end more than the client end so I could be wrong. But yes, moving that folder/file is all you need to do if I'm not mistaken.

posted a message on We compromised Minecraft (Deadmau5 + Notch) + custom!!
Not sure what to say to this other than that it's pretty sad that people have to fiddle with the code to provide a "rare secret" that Notch teased us with, that ended up just being something for a single person. Well done though, but I'd run before the NDL storms in here exclaiming how you're ruining the awesome gift that notch bestowed upon DeadMau5 that we all spent time and effort looking for.

The "secret" is evidently that he made a custom skin for Deadmau5. Check the other thread on this. Pretty lame.

    EDIT:

I wonder if the secret actualy is greater than those mojang employee clan cloaks.
Notch maybe just told us that to make us more curious...

I'd be surprised quite frankly. There's nothing that I've seen that establishes this precedent. I think it much more likely that these were just giveaways to his buddies. *which is fine*... until he implied that there was something else that the community could experience which turned out to be nothing at all.

posted a message on The Search For Something Rare... BEGINS!! - Found
I don't know. This just seems like kind of a **** move. He knew what he was starting when he put that in the notes, but he let it go anyway. People got all excited, started searching their world, searching the .jar file and generally getting pretty worked up about what sounded like some cool new feature...

Only to find out that he just made something moderately cool for one of his buddies. Wow.

I try to be fairly objective about things (with varying levels of success), but how can anyone honestly feel that that's "awesome" or "epic"? What kind of childhood have you people had? I can just imagine Christmas where Dad says "hey there, I've got a surprise for you!" and then when you open all your presents, he proudly exclaims "I bought your mom a necklace!".

You people sometimes act like the abused wife defending her husband. It's quite sad, really, that people can become so attached to a brand name (and let's not mistake ourselves, that's all this is) that they're willing to pick up the sword and defend every last action to their last breath.

It's cool that he did something like that for his friend (or whatever Deadmau5 is), but it would have been significantly cooler in my eyes if he had just said "yeah and I did this" like he did with the Mojang cloaks. It's not something that affects anyone, but at least it's made clear that we don't need to go looking for some mythical cool new feature.

posted a message on I pirated minecraft :(
Oh I pirate constantly. I don't live in my parents basement, and mommy and daddy stopped buying things for me years ago, ergo I only buy games that are worth it. If I pirate a game and I deem it worthwhile, I buy it, if it isn't, I uninstall. Simple as that. There are a few companies whose games I will buy sight unseen, but that number is dwindling rapidly, as games evolve more and more into slightly interactive cutscenes.

I pirated minecraft, the first 5 minutes I was disgusted, the second 5 minutes i was silent, the last 5 minutes I was frantically building, I bought it shortly thereafter. I would *not* have bought the game if I couldn't try it first.

Frankly, I don't see what the problem is here. I get that it's illegal, but if I were a developer, I would fully advocate piracy if it meant someone would buy my **** that wouldn't have done otherwise.

Apparently this thread has all 15 people who have never downloaded a game, movie, tv series, or MP3 in their lifetime, (or copied a VHS for that matter) judging by the self-righteous chest thumping earlier on.
