I use Minecontrol. it's close enough to play pc minecraft as if it were xbox or ps3 version.

I watched this video to learn how to install it (although it's fairly simple)

Well most games are more GPU dependant than CPU so if this is for other games as well then go for a higher GPU and get a lower CPU, but if you're going to use Minecraft all the time, then get a higher CPU and more ram and you'll be fine.

other than that, like the people above have said, you'll be able to run Minecraft just as fine with your setup.

This is true, as can be seen on this graph from the Wiki, which shows that the occurrence of diamond ore drops off rapidly above y=12 (note also that if you are standing at y=12, feet position, that your eyes will be at y=13 and the ceiling (2 blocks high) at y=14, layers with far fewer diamonds. Also, lava is actually at y=10, so you want to stand at y=11 to avoid it; again, feet position).
