Jan 19, 2012ahollida posted a message on [1.2.3] Modern Winter Mode - Snow, feature-creeped! - Unofficial update wanted!Hey, for some reason I'm noticing my seeds won't plant... Can't seem to figure it out, I have a small underground farm I started on a new world (fresh install with just ModLoader & this mod) and whenever I try to add seeds into tilled dirt it turns back into a normal dirt block & consumes the seed. Any thoughts?Posted in: Minecraft Mods
Nov 1, 2011ahollida posted a message on Reviewers can, have, and will lower Minecraft's score if Notch does not add this soon.Well, you can always look at Terraria, while it got some reviewer mentions for it's lack of in game instructions, other than INCREDIBLY vague hints (not talking patches, initial release), it wasn't really dinged on it because of a rather well designed and informative wiki. I'd say really you could get away with just adding a "Help" button somewhere that takes you to the minecraft wiki and leave it there.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion

PvP is now on always outside of spawn zone. Trying to TP home now has a bit of a buildup (to prevent killing or losing a fight and then quickly tping away). Lotsa fun!
Aug 7, 2011The funniest part? If he would've been less of a jerk about it and asked about PvP he would have seen that PvP implementation in the server in in the works. Ah well, no loss. :tongue.gif:Posted in: PC Servers
Aug 6, 2011Hey! I was told to reply to this topic to be granted regular status.Posted in: PC Servers

I was really just browsing around for a mostly vanilla server. So many mods can kind of leave a server cluttered. So I just wanted a place where I could build, maybe show some of it off at some point, and have people to chat with while going through the boring-ness that can come with diamond hunting :tongue.gif:
Thanks in advance!
Apr 14, 2011Just made a custom minecraft install with this, and netherCraft (live in the Nether -- woo).Posted in: Minecraft Mods
I'm enjoying the cement bucket, making molds of dirt, filling em up, getting my smoothstone walls faster. Thanks for a wonderful mod, especially now that I can use it with many of the other good mods out there!

Fish Oil : (uses could include lighting, or possibly an intermediate ingredient for something that would work well with oil)
Fish Glue: (Some sort of intermediate recipe for something that would require glue)
Apr 11, 2011Glad to hear about the ModLoader support! It was the only thing holding me back from fiddling with this mod in detail. Thank you for helping me with my ongoing quest to make the Nether useful in single player, and please continue to help round out some of the missing features in this game. -- Especially when it comes to Nether-usefullness, a sign of a dropped area if I ever saw one.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
I've been programming for two years now, and I appreciate the work that must have gone into this, and appreciate the extra effort you took to take advantage of the ModLoader functionality.
Apr 5, 2011Son of a.... just came back to play Minecraft again on my lil' lappy, updated to 1.4_01, and broke Optimine again :tongue.gif:.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
There goes my 30fps back down to 5. And the wait begins....
Keep up the good work!
Oct 25, 2010While we're at it, lets just go back to the "lives" system of the old-school games eh? Challenging and fun!Posted in: Alpha - Minecraft Halloween Update
I remember my last playthrough of Dragon Age: Origins. I'd been enjoying the game on hard, made it about halfway through and got myself into a fight I just couldn't seem to win, I tried several times, many methods, used player advice, tricks, tips, anything I could think of, but couldn't win. So what'd I do? I changed the difficulty, put it down to Normal for a few minutes, finally was able to advance, and moved on.
My wife? She plays it on easy, keeps it there, she looks at my frequent deaths, reloads, and pausing and strategizing and *knows* that wouldn't be enjoyable for her, she plays to relax. Same reason she can't play WoW, dying in the middle of nowhere with all that lost progress? Stresses her out, and she just wants to relax. Without an adjustable slider, sticking points can go from challenging, to frustrating, to just plain maddening.
There are days in Minecraft where I just want to finish my bloody greenhouse, then pop up the difficulty and see how hard it is to defend it from the outside, and see how crater-filled my front lawn can become.
And to quote the second part of Notch's statement, the part that most people ignore:
But if it's no fun, I'll redesign.
I do agree with the "lock for hardcore" feature though. You want a shiny stamp on your screen and nuked saves? All yours. But the rest of us will enjoy the sliders. I know what I enjoy, and while I'm fine with people who don't mind dying after spending 4-5 hours digging out a mine to find their diamonds and then getting pushed into lava and having it all go up in smoke, I do mind that sometimes. I can't play this game every day for hours on end to remake up progress, so don't take away my options please. Locking me on peaceful/easy/normal is telling me "you're not good enough to ever see half the features the game has without starting all over" as well as "if you ever get stuck or frustrated, you have to start over".
Fallout 3 made you take sides in many quests, and make decisions. But I could always save right beforehand. I could always fiddle with the slider, and Karma was a cinch to change.
I do have to agree that sometimes I think there's people out there who want these confining constraints imposed on other players simply to have that glorious YouTube video that shows that they've played on some sort of hardcore mode and survived, without leaving any options for changes.
For Mr. Winter, since he loves to quote game developers. Here's a BioWare developer on influence of "hardcore" gamers on development. (by Muzyka, during GameSpot interview)
We should note that a minority of hardcore gamers actually do seek niche-type features that might cause the mainstream gamers to get turned off by complexity or difficulty, and, to be successful in reaching a large audience with their titles, developers definitely need to be aware of this phenomenon and be careful to screen all comments carefully before changing their designs based on those comments from fans.
Oct 6, 2010I'd love to see a DF Mode, not for me mind you, I believe you have to be a bit of a masochist to enjoy Dwarf Fotress, but all the elite hardcore mode people want a game that appeals to only that little small portion of gamers would have their little mode, and the rest of us would have the standard fare that comes with the rest of the game.Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
I still remember telling someone that I used one of the GUI mods for Dwarf Fortress, which once I started using it to understand what I was doing, made the game more enjoyable. There was very much rage directed at me for not being a purist. Crazy (but fun) community.
Oct 6, 2010I use aPosted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
1.6 Ghz Intel Atom N270 (OC'd to 2.0Ghz)
2GB RAM w/ 8GB Netboost
The unique aspect to the N10J GeForce 9300M GS it comes with, as opposed to that silly Intel GMA crap.
Minecraft runs on fast graphics with normal view distance at a good frame rate, some *very slight* stuttering when drawing in new areas. I'd highly recommend it.
Oct 6, 2010Posted in: Alpha - Minecraft Halloween UpdateQuote from gaaraxebeard »Limited torches doesn't make diamond mining harder. It makes the trip back to the surface harder. I like this because it would give you a greater sense of accomplishment to successfully return home with diamonds.
Agree on the increased sense of accomplishment. It'll be way too much of a pain to take a break from you know, doing something every 30 minutes (or whatever time it takes for a round trip with torch timer) to run up and down my whole shaft relighting, so I'll probably just let the torches die except for the ones around me. Does that mean monster infested corridors all the way back? Yup, but it's either that or doing the above (very tedious).
Oct 6, 2010Same, a fresh start is definitely going to be needed to get the full effect of these changes. Also, my plans for my first base have slightly changed too. Instead of find coal, build hovel, begin awesomeness, it's now going to be find some gravel and iron, make flint/steel, build massive roaring fireplace as centerpiece of new hovel. :biggrin.gif:Posted in: Alpha - Minecraft Halloween Update
