posted a message on Hoppers and Ender Chests

This isn't possible. Ender chests have different contents for every player, so there is no way for the game to know which player's chest to pull/push items from/to.

Example: if you and I are playing in the same world, and I put down an enderchest, its contents will be different for you and me (for me, it will show what I put in it. For you, it shows what you put in it). If I put a hopper under it, should it be sucking out my items or yours?

posted a message on Dear Mojang, Please fix Beacon and Player Render Distance

This already is an option for render distance. A server can set its render distance as far as they like, which is independent of player render distance.

For example, if I am on a server with a render distance of 32 chunks, but my own PC set it to 4 chunks, I can only "see" 4 chunks out, while the server is keeping 32 "active" (ticks processed, mobs spawning, ect).

Conversely, if I have a 32 chunk render distance on my PC but my server has 4 chunks, I will start by only seeing the 4 chunks around me, but as I move around, more becomes visible. If I move around a lot, I will be able to "see" a lot of chunks that the server is no longer keeping active (mobs not moving, plants not growing, ect).

    Server suggestions.

Make banners editable to up to 10 layers and not 6. there are so many sweet 8-9 layer banner designs out there that i want to make!

Or possible rewards for small games is the ability to have a mod make a banner with more then 6 layers for you. ether way, that my suggestion!

I'm not currently aware of any way to do this (besides commands), but I'll dig around plugin archives

January/February Build Contest – Welcome Center!

The next build contest is an important one – a new Welcome Center!

    Details

This is the first Build Contest with NO SIZE RESTRICTION – build as much as you see fit! We also have a bigger build window, lasting from January 4, 2019 through January 31. Voting will begin on February 1.

The winning build will be a new Welcome Center – this will be the first place new users will find themselves when logging in. The welcome center must include:

    • A “Spawn Area”, the first thing players see when signing in
    • An easy-to-find place for rules
    • An easy-to-find warp area, taking players back to the regular Spawn Town
    • An Armory, where other players can donate some starter food and gear
    • A “History Room”, which we will use to spell out some of the server history
    • This building must be floating in the air – it cannot touch the ground

So it would seem my build didn't get a warp sign =(

'Tis a shame, I thought it was a beautiful design.

I need everyone who participates to post their coordinates here or on the website. I can't include you in voting if I can't find your build!

Since there were several late entries, and some of them are quite good, I'm resetting the build voting for last month's contest. Voting will remain open through January 16, and previous votes do not count towards the new total.

posted a message on New idea about changing the TNT crafting recipe
    Quote from sycheslav»

Gunpowder is not hard at all to obtain.

I've built an automated creeper farm on a Vanilla server with over 3000 gunpowder/hour drop rate. That's almost two shulker boxes per hour. And that's not even the most powerful design.

Why efficiency 4 and not 5? You do know that it goes above 4, right?
But the point is to be able to eliminate manual labor and automate things. If we can automate gunpowder, then why not automate other ingredients for TNT?

Efficiency 5 isn't required for sand, or anything with a shovel. I believe it insta-breaks even with efficiency 3 on diamonds.

If you have 2 shulker boxes' worth, hit a desert for 5 minutes to get the required sand. You could empty dozens of deserts' worth in the time it would take to build your efficient creeper farm.

The point is that when you want to craft stacks upon stacks of TNT, sand is never the barrier to entry - it is the gunpowder. Anyone who has been playing a day can get a double chest of sand, getting a double chest of gunpowder is a massive undertaking.

posted a message on The old tale of progression, then getting stale -> The fix.

Here's a neat trick for your progression:

When you go to enchant, it will always tell you what "one" of the enchantments will be. You can use this to your advantage - if it doesn't show an enchantment you know you'll need, just enchant a level 1 wood sword instead, toss it into the fire, and check the next enchantment.

You might need to enchant a couple pieces to get the specific ones you want, but you can also combine them on the anvil to get your OP equipment on the cheap.
