It is rather easy to make a negative emotion like "sadness" or "lonely" seem more dramatic. That, and the high portion of people that want to be edgy or deep.
I rather like that you've drawn a parallel between overworld villages and your nether ones.
I spend a lot of time in the nether and this creates a whole new reason to be there and it makes cities there more profitable. Plus, I think we can all agree that the nether needs more content.
Overall, I agree with your proposal, but pigmen don't fit very well with the setting.

Yes, I've seen people discuss this. It is actually very efficient and, to me at least, preferable to diamond. Once diamond runs out, you have to get more, which is hard. With enchanted stone, you just mine some random block and kill a pig or two.
Snakes sound like a really good idea. All the other hostile mobs only come out at night and seem, well, unnatural. But one that would be part of the environment? Sweet.
