This thread has been done before. All future versions does not cover different games, it covers different versions of the same game. Minecraft for XBox and XPeria Play are different games. Ergo, no free versions.
I would have assumed that anyone with half a brain cell could figure this out, and this thread would be needless. This is definitely up for debate, and not clear at all. Though I do see this going to the consumer's side. The agreement upon purchase was ambiguous and therefore the law will lean the the consumer's advantage.
guys, it isn't cheap to give away that many copies of a game for free, especially when most of the profit goes to Microsoft and the other company (the one building it under mojang), so don't blame him for that, and don't jump to conclusions, he hasn't confirmed anything to my knowledge, and i doubt he will until closer to release, which could be a while away.

as to whether he has the legal option to charge you, it all comes down to two things, copyright and definition, as to copyright, it will be under different copyright to minecraft due to all the other companies involved, there may even be a name change thrown in there, this then means that under a legal view it is not classifiable as a "version" of minecraft (now don't bring up the law that says in instances where a definition is called into question the court will rule in favor of the consumer, because there is no question as to the legal definition of "version", if you think there is i suggest you get a good dictionary)
basically, he has no obligation to give you a free copy of minecraft, he might, and if he does it is completely out of is own kindness.

I honestly have no idea what that shitfest of a post was. Additionally, it took them two days to get a good "story" up an running as to why everything all of a sudden died. It took them even longer to add it to the page for these forums (which matters because not everyone might happen to browse Curse.com as you seem to presume they do). And, yes, I have used Curse before for other gaming forums and sites, and the same **** has happened. You need to learn to not make so many assumptions.

EDIT: And, yes. Comensation to some users. Not all users. Just some. Additionally, it costs Mojang sales when things like this happen. I, for one, did decide to go check the Curse.com forums, and people were saying they were holding off buying because of the forum downtime. I don't think you quite realise the scope of how many people actually use these forums, and how it might affect people.

To those saying that Curse provide a "solid service" - not quite.
Curse have had quite a history of random downtimes because "things fail."
To be honest, I preferred the old management and servers - fair enough, it may not have been ideal, but it was still better than Curse.
From what I can remember, the only time these forums have really died was during a DDoS (nothing you can do about that) or a critical failure (but even then, basic functionality was kept so we constantly had updates on what was happening.)
Curse comes along, they have a critical failure, and we're left for a day with one of the most vague messages possible, and then they add/remove "explanations" over the next three days. If you're going to take down an entire network of millions of users, you should atleast have the courtesy of telling them why right from the start.

as to telling them right from the start, they don't always know exactly what the problem is at the beginning, and if it's only going to be a few hours, what does it matter what the cause is.
