Just deployed a small hotfix. It was crashing when using CoFH without Thermal Foundation. Also no Research Papers were showing up for my planets in Planet Progression; I've got a workaround for now but it's not perfect. I plan to have this fully functional soon (hopefully). You can also now use Cobalt, Evenium and Virinium inside of Extreme Reactors' turbines now.

posted a message on [1.12.2] Zollern Galaxy v2 - Add-On Mod for Galacticraft!

    Hey everyone,

I'm announcing the return of my Galacticraft add-on mod, Zollern Galaxy. This is just a first release, but let me know what you think. I hope it's well received; I put a lot of work and time into it. It's not finished yet, either; I have so many ideas for it. This is just the initial release. But I welcome feedback always.

    So, here's how this works:

To "progress" through each planet as the mod is intended, there are 10 tiers of Star Gates. Each one is linked between two planets: the one you came from, and the one you're going to. They do not stack, but their usage is (currently) unlimited, though that may change in the future. Now having said that, you can also reach these planets by using rockets from other mods (the first planet is Tier 3), allowing you to bypass the Star Gate system. I just wanted to try something new, different and creative because there's so many rockets already. I'll have a video out (hopefully soon) showcasing the mod. Let's just take this one step at a time though, shall we? One small step, then we'll take a giant leap!

    [[Zollern Galaxy]]

Please read this entire description before posting anything! I do not use rockets; I use a star-gate system instead. I thought it would be more creative and give a slight twist to space exploration. If you wish to bypass this, use Steve Kung's "More Planets" mod. Zollern Galaxy is DESIGNED to work along-side it!

** You MUST have Galacticraft 4 installed as a mod already for this add-on mod to work!

** This mod works with More Planets, GalaxySpace and ExtraPlanets (not tested on other space mods yet, will update this list as more are tried). There just may be a few dimension/biome ID conflicts that you have to change, but it is possible to get all four to play nice together (according to multiple users). It does not have a dependency other than Galacticraft.

    [ABOUT]

Zollern Galaxy is a space exploration mod; an add-on for Galacticraft. It adds multiple new solar systems and planets, each with their own set of blocks, items, biomes, flora, fauna, mobs and resources. The Player can reach the starter planet, Eden, by creating a Tier 3 rocketship, and then, as resources are collected, the Player can then craft a special tablet. This tablet, when right-clicked on the ground, will spawn a single portal where the Player is looking. Traveling through this portal will take them to the next planet. I thought it would be fun to shake things up a bit like that, and instead of making extra rockets (which would have taken a lot more work), making what essentially are star-gates. This is how you progress through the mod, and how you explore planets. This is my first add-on mod, but I think I did pretty well, all things considered. There are currently 7 star systems and 4 planets in one solar system (Psios) - the goal is to have at least 20 different star systems, and at least 50 planets in total, when all is said and done.

This mod was heavily inspired by Star Trek, No Man's Sky, Galacticraft, and Steve Kung's "More Planets" mod. Galacticraft is an incredible mod, but Steve Kung's "More Planets" mod is what really stole the show and inspired me to create my own add-on. His code is so well written and easy to read that I had no trouble at all with learning from it, whereas I can't even understand most tutorials. The mod is amazing, and the planets and moons he created are absolutely breath-taking. I heavily encourage you to use his mod with mine, not only because it makes the space exploration much more fun and robust, but also because he has 8 different rocket tiers. This would, theoretically, allow the Player to transcend my portal system by visiting whichever planet they like and exploring at their own pace. I learned a LOT from Steve's mod, and my mod would not have been at all possible or have a lot of the stuff that it has without him. Even the problem I had with setting up the workspace, he posted about on a forum, and through reading it, I was able to figure it out as well. So definitely give his mod a look, and he deserves, at the very least, half of the credit for my mod, because his code helped me understand a bunch of concepts and how a lot of things work. I doubt that he would need to, but if he needs to use any of my code at all, he is more than welcomed to do so.

Anyway, I spent months working on this mod, and I honestly took a lot of breaks because I thought it would be a very long time before I even had this ready to release for version 1. I am sure there will be bugs and glitches; I expect nothing less. Please inform me of anything that you find and I will be more than happy to look into it and try to fix it. I've only made one other mod, called Zollern Extras, and it essentially was just, as its name suggests, an "extras" mod, so I was able to do pretty much whatever I wanted with it. However, it did not get the attention that I was hoping it would, and honestly, it didn't deserve to. But I worked very hard on this mod, and will continue to do so for the next year or two. Space exploration has always been one of my favorite things, ever since I was a child, and it feels amazing to finally be making my own virtual universe, right alongside Steve's and micdoodle8's.

I don't want to give away anything, because there are some hidden surprises and fun little things to find, especially on Eden, but on others, too. More surprises and fun little finds are always being added. This mod will likely not have a wiki, simply because I prefer the Player to explore everything and figure everything out for themselves. That's part of the fun, to me, is not knowing what's out there. I really hope this mod takes off, so I would love some kind feedback, whether it be positive or negative. There are still certain concepts that I don't understand, so maybe it is a little limited in that sense, but I still think you'll find it pretty cool.

So get out there - evolve and explore - go where no miner has gone before!

posted a message on [SOLVED] [1.12.2] [Zollern Galaxy] Crash when reaching planet selection screen

Nevermind, the issue is I'm a doofus and was using the BIOME'S ID instead of the dimension... Derp....

Pro tip: When programming, it is essential to take breaks.

Please excuse me while I slam my head against the wall repeatedly. :)

posted a message on [SOLVED] [1.12.2] [Zollern Galaxy] Crash when reaching planet selection screen

    Source Code: https://github.com/alphawolf918/Zollern-Galaxy

    Log: https://pastebin.com/rA1iAcnY

Hello all, I'm currently experiencing an issue with my mod. I'm porting it from 1.7.10 to 1.12.2 (yeah, fun) after a bit of demand from users, and I'm happy to do so. Everything works fine until you launch to the planet selection screen, then it crashes. I can't seem to figure it out. It's like it has something to do with trying to generate villages, but I don't understand how because it shouldn't be. That doesn't mean it's not, but I've tried several things and so far none of them are working. I'm open for friendly suggestions here, as I'm at my wit's end with this. I've got a couple more ideas, but before I try to do anything overcomplicated, I'd like to know if there are any simpler solutions that I'm missing. I'd very much like to get this mod up and going again, and if I could get just one planet, then getting a couple more shouldn't be any problem. I don't like asking for help because I generally prefer to figure things out on my own, but so far I'm having trouble with that. I welcome friendly advice and recommendations, and if anybody could provide any insight as to why this is happening, I'd very much appreciate it.

Seems to have something to do with loading the dimension (-7982), because that's when it crashes, so I'm sure it's something to do with my ChunkProvider somewhere. Anyway, thanks in advance.

posted a message on [SOLVED] [1.11.2] ConcurrentModificationException issue with getPlayerList().transferPlayerToDimension

Oh, I've got it fixed. Sorry, should've updated this. The trick is to use FML's addScheduledTask method. If you look at my code now, the working version is up.

    https://github.com/alphawolf918/Zollern-Extras/blob/v-1.11.2/src/main/java/zollernextras/items/teleporter/MessageTeleportToDimension.java

Thank you so much for the reply though and I hope this helps you and others.

posted a message on [SOLVED] [1.11.2] ConcurrentModificationException issue with getPlayerList().transferPlayerToDimension

Hello all. First off, I know that it's not 1.12, but our server is in 1.11.2 and we're happy with it where it's at. I'm about to push a big update to my mod for the server, but I'm very stuck on this:

    https://github.com/alphawolf918/Zollern-Extras/blob/v-1.11.2/src/main/java/zollernextras/items/teleporter/MessageTeleportToDimension.java

My CustomTeleporter class also lives in that same folder, and my AbstractMessage and PacketDispatcher classes live under the networks folder.

Basically, I'm trying to transfer the Player to my custom dimension, and the dimension itself works great. Here's where it gets weird though: the game transfers the Player to the dimension, sets all the air blocks around them (so that they don't suffocate in a wall), but then crashes with a ConcurrentModificationException. The issue it points to is the updateTimeAndLightEntities method and the WorldServer tick. I know that a CME issue is because I'm trying to access something that's already being iterated over, but I've checked and doubled checked with Just Enough Dimensions, CustomNpcs and RFTools (and their companion mod, RFToolsDimensions), but I always get the same crash. I tried making it synchronized, but that didn't seem to work either. I mean, it works, just, it crashes, which is kinda not good. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I am extremely stuck, and I never ask for help unless I really, truly need it. I am at a complete loss here.

Here's how I used to do this in 1.7.10:

    https://github.com/alphawolf918/Zollern-Extras/blob/1.7.10/src/main/java/zollernextras/items/teleporter/MessageTeleportToDimension.java

Since getConfigurationManager no longer exists (scouring the web showed me it was replaced with getPlayerList), as far as I can tell this is the only way to call the transferPlayerToDimension method. How do I get around the CME and still get the Player there?

Note: I have an item called ItemUpsideDownEye (yes, it's inspired by Stranger Things) that, upon right-click, transfers the Player to my dimension and back. I'm upgrading from 1.7.10 (I started over a year ago but long story short I was very sick for about seven months this year and was unable to function) to 1.11.2, and may even go to 1.12 at some point, but I'd like to figure this out first, please.

Again, any help at all would be appreciated. Crash report is below:

    Thank you in advance.

We are the authors of the modpack. x) Anyways, we decided to upgrade to 1.11.2 (tried 1.12 first, but the modding landscape for that is comparatively barren), and that's going well so far.

Thank you again for all of your help. It's very much appreciated.

Alright, we restarted over completely last night, brand new world, NO machines anywhere, and now today the brand new world is doing the same thing.

I really need to know what the heck is happening.

    EDIT:

After a server restart it let me on. I think I'm gonna set it up to auto-restart every 6 hours, maybe that'll flush it out.

    EDIT2:

Now it gives me this weird error that says "IllegalArgumentException: Payload must not be over 32k."

Never seen that error before, any idea what that means? I read somewhere that iChun's mods have a tendency to do that, so I removed the Hats mod and deleted the hats folder. It let me on after that but now the FPS is horrendous, same issue as before.

I'm sorry to keep bothering everybody about this, but I'm really getting frustrated because we can't even start over without it happening again.

    EDIT3:

And now we're back into the "Failed to connect: Timed out" error again that we were getting before.

This is ridiculous, we finally decide to bite the bullet and start over and the same issue still persists.

Alrighty. Well we're gonna try starting over (again) and hope for the best. But still, thank you very much for your help. You have been very helpful and I appreciate that.
