posted a message on The Village Experiment - The Behavior of Village AI

    THE VILLAGE EXPERIMENT
    Conducted by ZeroKelvin

    For full details: Click Here

The purpose of this experiment is to observe how Villagers and Villages interact with each other. More specifically, to see what would happen if two villages touch each other. Would they merge or still be two different villages?

The experiment was conducted in a 3x32 house 'village' in these special houses. They have a living space of 3x3 blocks and have pressure plates in them. If a villager enters a house, they'll step on the plates and light the redstone lamps on top of the houses.

There was two villages involved in this test, each one will be created at the furthest ends of the 3x32 'village'. I marked them with a white and a black wool on the starting houses. The village would eventually grow to a size where they have no choice but to occupy houses next to another village.

I track both villages progress with the lights on the houses they occupy, the pattern they walk, and the path of each village's iron golem. The AI paths they take are especially important since they never leave the village. If either an iron golem or villager cross the boundary of a village to another, I don't know what would happen.

My first attempt of this experiment involved me working with a village twenty times as large as the 3x32 shown above. That did yield some interesting results, but nothing that will answer my question: could villages merge?

As the experiment began, the villages grew very very slowly. More so than my previous attempt. I suppose it is because of the radius the villager can move and occupy houses. Anyway, they were growing very slow so I used the mob egg to spawn some. I made sure I spawned the same number in both villages.

Although the other village had little progress moving towards the other, this one was not growing, but moving. I had already seen in my first attempt that villages can migrate so I took advantage.

To force the villages closer to each other, I destroyed the houses the villagers left behind to speed things up. This is so the village wouldn't move back.

The line that I'm looking at is the boundary between the two villages. The black wool divides the white wool village with the black wool village. The villages doesn't move from this point forward. I've seen the villagers and iron golems. Surprisingly, they don't cross the line. Well, the iron golems do cross the line but they always go back to their respective village. This is an amazing result. Two clearly defined villages are respecting each other's space.

Both populations lose interest in the bordering houses and they actually made effort to avoid them. Both villages had SIX iron golems, they had to have had at least ninety-six villagers in each village for that to happen and they still avoid the bordering houses.

It was clear to me then that there was no point in continuing the experiment because they will NEVER merge.

    Here are my findings:

-Villages depend on the villager's location. The villager's location is dependent on the house's location.

-Where the golem spawns depends on the village center, the center can move as the villagers move.

-The distance between villages required to create another village is only there because villagers would return to their own village if there is none around them. (The 40 block requirement from Wiki) It doesn't mean two villages can't be next to each other.

-The spawning location of golems depends on the village center and the number of villagers around the center.

-Villages created will be defined as separate from other villages.

-Villagers can wander and create a new village if the houses for the new village are at an appropriate distance and the number of villagers available to create a new village is away from an existing village center.

-Villages cannot be destroyed by the game, only created. Well, mobs and players can destroy a village but you get what I'm talking about.

    ------------
You're probably asking, why did I do this to find so little information? I'm actually trying to build a village city in my single player world. The size, number and location of the defined village(s) in my city is vital for the placement of a iron golem farm. They had no information on how villages interact on the wiki so I had to figure it out myself.

More specifically, I wanted to know the legitimacy of the specs of this: Click

The facts I discovered questions the wiki's 40 block requirement away from a village boundary. I believe that it has more to do with the center.

I doubt the usefulness of this data but who knows. Maybe it'll be useful someday.

    any response???

The reason why I ask people to send me screenshots and schematics is because there is no server. I don't know why people are getting the impression of me having a server to work on. Would it be better for me to have a server? Yes, but I cannot host one nor do I have the time to build with you guys especially when I'm asking for your designs not mine.
