This is one of the many fully automatic tree farm designs. Fully automatic tree farms are expensive and time consuming to build, so if you're not rich, I wouldn't recommend it.
You can replant and grow trees with dispensers holding saplings and bonemeal, you can have a Wither automatically breaking the trees for you, and a system to collect the wood in a storage cell. Simple.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but from the start of the video the player is seen planting the saplings by hand. That makes it semi-automatic, right?
Sorry, this is close you can get, Get dispensers on each side, then for one side of the dispensers put bone meal and the other saplings they'll grow repeatedly when you add the red stone circuit. But you need to manually cut them. I heard that Etho had one in his Season 4 SMP video, but I forgot if it's automatic.
Do you have a video of a dispenser planting a sapling? This guy did it, but it requires command blocks.
At OP: First time I fell in one of those I just placed a bloc at water level and got out. In your situation though, let yourself die, then go back and destroy ONLY TWO blocks from the top of the well, hole should be at water level, get your stuff and gtfo.
I read somewhere that ocelots need to be in begging mode to be tamed. That means you must get near it with fish in hand and then let it walk closer to you. When he walks up to you and stares, then start feeding it as much as it takes until it turns into a dumb looking cat (Why can't I keep the ocelot? dammit!).
Thats how I got my two cats in my first trip to the jungle. Took about 18 fish to get them both.
I'm with florek on this one. Charging skeletons is more fun than waiting for them behind cover, but charging is not a "tactic" in my opinion.
I created a combat area from left over chunk mines. It's a flat, pitch dark, underground area 3 chunks long and 2 chunks wide. Mobs spawn like crazy in it, I'm not sure why. I've tried to build others like it in other worlds but they just don't spawn as fast and in so many numbers as in this spot. Maybe because this spot is close enough to the void? If there are only 3 skeletons chasing me, that means there are a ton of something else. Average of 30 mobs chasing and who knows how many haven't seen me yet.
I can charge in with high end enchanted diamond armor and survive, but it costs a LOT to repair that armor after just one trip through. So I use iron armor and "tactics" to avoid getting hit as much as possible. If I charge in with just iron on, I am GOING to die there. So yes, tactics where you don't get hit are important.
When you guys say "charge" I only imagine a noob rushing in a straight line, which is dumb. I think most of us that have supported the "charge" tactic have made it pretty clear that it involves dodging arrows by side stepping at the last moment in order to get into melee range. We don't believe ourselves to be juggernaut and run towards the skeleton berserk style. If getting into melee range while dodging attacks is not a tactic, then define tactic.
Also like I asked florek, please don't make scenarios where your tactic always wins over others. Walking into a pitch dark room filled with 30+ loose mobs is not a normal scenario in minecraft. People either encounter random mobs in the overworld or have them all gathered in xp farms. Lets keep it simple.
But... are the mods legit? Or is there a virus in his website? Seems to me that is a legit website for mods and the kid is only spamming the forum to get traffic.
those are not a tactics at all. are you trying reductio ad absurdum? why?
The eggs one IS a tactic, eggs do damage I believe. Using snowballs to push a skele off a ledge for fall damage is also a tactic "wherever you accept it or not."
exploting weakness of your enemy is part of the warfare for few thousand years.
That is not a weakness, its a coding flaw that you are exploiting. A few thousand years ago an archer would not walk towards a swordsman because it was behind a mount of dirt, that would be dumb. The archer would wait for the swordman to pop his head above the dirt or would find another angle while still being long-range. Weakness would be something like skeles taking more damage by fire attacks, or taking more damage if you hit them in the legs rather than the torso, or something like that. Completely different things.
I posted ontopic info about one of the tactics of dealing with skeletons. if you cant accept your way is not The Only Way then it is your problem, not mine.
When did I not accept your tactic? It was you who did not accept mine, remember?
especialy since OP told us s/he have a problem with dying to skeletons. if your advice is to charge into skeletons even more, then it is no advice at all.using cover is a sound tactic wherever you accept it or not. not my problem if all your tactics can be found in ork codex.eot.
OP did not mention anything about issues dying to skeles, she asked ways to fight them without dying. Read carefully. She also never said which tactic she uses, so I am not telling her to "charge even more" and if we are to speculate about OP I could speculate that she is using the hide behind a block tactic and finds it extremely easy and boring and so she wants to know other ways of killing them. See what I did there?
I think you can make string out of whool, but you need a big enough sheep farm.
If you know where there is a skeleton spawner you can just skip the bow crafting process and turn the spawner into a grinder which gives you lots of bows. Some are damaged but if you repair them with the crafting table you can get undamaged bows for the dispensers.
but it is the strict technical truth. worst possible tactic in engaging ranged mob is to charge him. if you think otherwise, pls post what is worst tactic imaginable.
I do apologize for "silly", tho. I meant it as "not optimized at all", not as "stupid".
Worst ways? Too easy kid.
1. Walking towards them instead of sprinting.
2. Trying to kill them with a bucket of lava.
3. Trying to dump an anvil on them.
4. Blow them with tnt?
5. Get another skele to hit them while shooting you.
you take cover behind block in hope enemy will come into your sword range.
Quote from florek»
you can abuse LoS rules and attack their legs while being completely safe one block lower. but this is advanced tactics :-)
Since when is exploiting mob stupidity (aka AI flaws) an advance tactic? o.O
And stop making scenarios, first I had to fight more than one skele, now I have low health? What next? The skele is mounting an ender dragon? Seriously...
This IS about ways to kill them, my first post wasn't even targeted at you it was my way of killing them, but you felt the need to tell me how silly my tactic was compared to your advanced hide-behind-a-block-and-exploit-the-skele's-s-dumb-AI-which-makes-it-walks-towards-you tactic. You might as well just go into creative...
If you just want to win a silly argument about a silly game in a silly forum, fine, here, have a prize:
The game itself is silly. Rushing in to ranged, weak, easy to outsmart & dodge mobs is hardly silly, specially when your health is constantly regenerating and you are covered in enchanted armor. Rushing in is actually fun and requires much more tactics than placing 2 blocks in front of you as you don't simply run&whack you have to dodge attacks as you get closer. Did you ever play zelda games? I can fend off 3-4 skeletons on hard mode by dodging and sprinting easily, dodging takes skill, unlike camping behind a wall to kill AI mobs.
If you ask how to kill players with bows then that requires camping and hiding tacticts, but skeletons are way too easy even on hard mode.
Mobs are stupid easy in this game, it doesn't take a genius to outsmart them. Yesterday a zombie broke into my cocoa farm as I was harvesting and I finished harvesting and replanted all my seeds with the dumb zombie following me around the farm. And you need hiding tacticts to kill these things? Meh...
If sprinting at them doesn't work you should type "/gamemode 1" in the ingame chat. Unless a skeleton has knockback sprinting is good enough, if it has knockback shoot it with your own bow but hiding behind blocks is for kids.

You are probably correct, I was taking a wild guess.

In other news... This belongs in discussion forum, or at least in seed forum. It has nothing to do with survival at all.
