Actually (i just finished a basic physics course) speed is never going to be a negative because it is a rate of distance/time. Distance will never be negative because it does not pay attention to direction (it isnt a vector) and time will never be negative obviously. Velocity is what your looking for here because it is a vector which contains direction and speed. Just a technical thing that I found.

I like the new detector block textures.

EDIT2: Editing terrain.png? ModLoader -> add terrain sprites.

Editing the terrain.png is acceptable because it is a work in progress. When it is a finished mod it will most likely be mod loader compatible.

Besides, my beard is still pretty authoritative. I'm pretty sure it adds like, +1 to my wisdom at the very least...

Here's a screenshot of some of the props:

Wow! The screens look amazing! I never would have thought beds would be part of the proposal. A little farfetched but I'm sure Notch would def get behind it! lol. All joking aside... The beard is pretty authoritative. +2 defense against cold, and command over minor entities.

(Do I get bonus points for noticing the re-skin on detector blocks? :smile.gif: )

Actually it is the same texture that glitchfinder used in his early version( or atleast it should be unless Ehnon has fixed it up with the new textures). I did all the rest to Ehnon's designs because it was fairly easy to redo them into the terrain file. EDIT: ninja'd (missed half this page somehow. guess it loaded late)

@apocalypse_r How ever the problem with the decompiled java files is that they are still obfuscated. This would not be a problem if the obfuscated class names stayed the same per version but this is not the case (or at least not that I can see).

However your abilities would be greatly appreciated with this mod

a good way to increase the cost for making better boosters would be to require Redstone to upgrade it

This may be the balance we were looking for. And (as far as I know) solves the problem of pieces having to stay under the bit range limit (*Tangent: though the trade off now is taking up more space in the memory, which seems to be a big problem in the modding community. I often hear people say "we only have such and such room in the code and you making it like this takes up more space!" Which I don't really get because Extended 2x2 crafting grid adds alot more stuff, plans to add more, and are doing fine). I propose this recipe:

    [] :RedShroom: []
    :RedShroom: :Portabella: []
    [] [] []

    Where:
    :RedShroom: = Redstone
    :Portabella: = Booster Piece

That should upgrade the piece to the next level. I wanted to keep it 2x2 due to people wanting to upgrade their pieces on the fly if they find out they need more power or any other reason to change it without having to carry a work bench. I would also like to request going from 100% -> 25% so that people have an option to turn their boosters back down. Alternatively we could use a second recipe to decrease the power instead.
    :Portabella: :RedShroom: []
    :RedShroom: [] []
    [] [] []

Actually I was thinking of one Redstone per upgrade but we could fine tune that when we get a modder. I was thinking that with a 100% booster you would have access to all 4 settings (100, 75, 50 ,25) and with a 75% booster you only can access 3(75, 50, 25) and so on.

I was thinking about the booster when i was designing the prop's recipes (I have 5 separate blocks for the booster at this point) that a good way to increase the cost for making better boosters would be to require Redstone to upgrade it, where you can then you can right click and access the other power levels so to make a booster you would have the standard design and the 25% unlock instantly but if they need a 50% they need Redstone dust to upgrade it and so on until you get a 100% booster. Just a though if we find that the current setup seems too unbalanced cost wise.

This would be epic to see this proposal back in game and fully finished after the few months since the 1.2_01 version (i got that right, right?) Oh well it would be great to see an experienced programmer do this mod

Zenox96, will this use modloader, or will it be it's own mod that does not require any other mods? I suggest that it be at least modloader compatible.

Eventually it will be a full mod if i get good enougth to do the complex coding and will be compatible with modloader but that might be a while before it is however i can try to put it into modloader now just to see if i can work out the kinks for you
    EDIT
Hmmm, this seems harder than adding the blocks i made into the game lol

@Ehnonimus I was wondering what would you like the light level created by the track be? equal to a Redstone torch, slightly more?

glad to see that it shouldnt be long now and there should be a banner now :smile.gif:

    BUT

what happens to the graphic for a booster when you get
    :|: = track
    :VV: = booster
    [] [] :|: [] []
    [] [] :|: [] []
    :|: :|: :VV: :|: :|:
    [] [] :|: [] []
    [] [] :|: [] []

this would be up to the programmer to decide which direction would be default when given the two perpendicular directions or just be placed facing the way you aim at it (probably this option)

Actually the player decides the direction of the track when it's placed. It would use similar mechanics to how signs are placed. Essentialy, when you place the track piece, it will try and point towards the player in the nearest north/south/east/west direction.

    -snip-

That was what the last part of my reply tried to say, sorry it wasn't as clear as it could have been

    EDIT:

I'm looking for assistance in making some in-game mockups/props for screen shot purposes. I have all the texture files needed, but modding knowledge. If you have any experience in this, your help would be much appreciated. (Scroll to the bottom of the post in the link for relevant info) [EDIT] LarvaLounge's suggestion might provide a suitable alternative. I'll look into it tomorrow. Thanks for the quick feedback!

While i am still a complete java newb i am capable of making mockup props for this. I have been working on trying to expand my java knowledge through application and reading minecraft's source code so your proposal has been a great mod to try to develop so. I can post an image of what i have so far: I have finished the mock up set and if you want it just PM me

    Hi everyone

I love this idea and I hope it becomes part of the vanilla Minecraft. I also just finished reading this hole topic.
I would be happy to help code for this mod, however I am still learning the language so it might be a while before I can actually do anything to help it.

this is very nice and i hope its gets implemented

one thing you should consider adding is a booster track piece that increases the cart speed any way it comes from and have a slow down piece which does the same too so you can have one way cart tracks for single player.

It is already possible to design tracks which do this no matter which way your coming from if you look at to speed up and to slow down just reverse the boosters in the same design
