Ooooh boy. Considering the speed at which I'm working on DsD, where you are in production of Septium Immoriel, and Sketch's estimated release for the Painter (March), Q1/2 2014 is looking pretty nice for CTM maps. ^_^

It better be, when it came to CTM maps Q1/Q2 was all tumbleweeds last year.

Lol @ all the lapis changes. Citadel of Sapphire just became very OP for an Intersection 1 area.

With the lag fixed, the spawn town rebuild will begin this weekend. I haven't been contacted by anyone in the nearly three weeks of opportunity to object, so I will assume full permission and tear the lot down. You'll be able to find your stuff in a chest at spawn, so you can relocate or rebuild once Project Respawn is finished.

inferachnid can't post because he's saving his 1000th. He chooses Unworld, The Nightfall Initiative, Tyrant's Hall.

I choose Deadlock, Defusal, and The Nightfall Initiative. See you around Xek!

Agh, my stupid ISP has locked me out of MCForums again. It looks like Curse may not be able to help me this time, so I speak to you from a free VPN I downloaded, which I'll have to use until Telecom gets their crap together. Sorry for anything I missed. Happy 1000 posts orchard28 yaaaay

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

It is strongly suspected that the CTMCommunity account has been sabotaged. Our best guess is that someone has gained access to the account - whether it be someone who was told the password, a previous or maybe even current administrator, or a person brute forcing their way in (unlikely). Either way, there has been damage to all OPs (as you all have noticed).

Until we can confirm that this is resolved, we can't guarantee that any action undertaken by the CTMCommunity account is by us, and we certainly don't claim responsibility for it.

    Thanks for understanding!

Big or small, difficult or easy, block variation or simplicity, it's all context sensitive.

An area may benefit from being bigger, as if it were too small it might feel claustrophobic.
Or an area may benefit from being smaller, as if it gets too big it'd just be filler.

And so on. It's useless to make sweeping generalizations because different things work differently for different maps. It's all context sensitive.

P.S. Be wary of nostalgia clouding your view. I always hear "zomg oldurr cee tee emm maps wer better", but it may just be your memory recalling it as better than it actually was. Everything seems better looking back.

You know maybe what Vechs (or any other mapmaker) needs is a new revenue model.

Personally I think it's a bit unfair for the big youtubers to do let's plays of custom maps and make a lot of money from that and not share any of it with the original mapmakers:

I would propose that once a mapmaker becomes famous enough that they put in a clause in their terms and agreements that requires any channel > a certain number of subscribers to ask permission to do a let's play on the map, and negotiate some sort of revenue share with them.

I'm not sure how well it would work, as I'm sure some youtubers would just either ignore that or play other maps that didn't have such a clause, but it would seem to be a way for a mapmaker to focus on _making maps_ while still getting a decent revenue from it.

Instant drop of LPs of your map to zero. YouTubers don't make a huge amount unless they are basically beyond the 1 million sub mark. Their paycheck varies from point to point. They can't afford to share income, especially when they could just find another map of the same genre.
Even if they could, I doubt many of them would want to.

Not to mention that the only way to do that right would be through a legally-binding contract, where you start getting headaches.
Say you sign an agreement with an LPer, but the LPer then never pays you back. Do you let the case go, and thus encourage others to stop payment as well (they got away with it, I can too!), or do you hire an attorney and take them to court, inducing a big headache for everyone?

Spawn town rebuild is DELAYED until 12 PM MONDAY 2 DECEMBER (NZDT) due to issues with server lag. You have more time to contact me to make arrangements on keeping your build.

You can see when this is in your timezone here.

IMPORTANT: SPAWN TOWN WILL BE REBUILT STARTING ON 12 PM MONDAY 25 NOVEMBER (NZDT). ALL BUILDS CIRCLED IN RED IN THE PREVIOUS POST WILL BE TORN DOWN. IF YOU OBJECT TO THIS, PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE THEN. We can try and figure something out.

You can see when this is in your timezone here.

I will leave the contents of your build in a chest at spawn, so you can pick up everything you own afterwards. After spawn town is rebuilt, there will be space for you to reinstate your build.

I will also PM all of you this applies to if I can. (Some houses don't have a sign with the owner's name on them ._. so there's nothing I can do about that.)

though I did find the copyright part of the site...it's here, if you scroll down on pretty much any page there, on the right side, it says "DMCA and private policy." There's an email and everything. I'm probably going to send one off sometime soon, once I translate their legaleze into English. Not sure if it's worth it though.

    Basically:

in case no one noticed, someone needs to reset the OP, its gone code again.

This again. I'm on it now.

Okay, I went on and built a small eyesore observation tower. A rebuild is going to be more difficult that I'd like.

In particular, the areas in red should be cleared out (IMO!).

There's a big problem here - if we want to centre the town around the Nether portal, not only do we have to knock down everything around there - aka more or less every single building, but the portal isn't even centred in the Plains biome. There's a huge expanse of Plains to the left of this screenshot that we can't really use right now.

I partially blame Com for a poor choice of seed :P But if we want to do this we're going to have to move the Nether portal - and therefore maybe the hub on the Nether side - and knock down practically every building. Only Garb's temple, my abode and the nature reserve are really out of the way enough to be left standing.

    Oh, and also:

Really? You had to completely overshadow my spawn hut with this monstrous farm that completely consumes the skyline? I appreciate the iron farm itself, but not the location. It would've been nice if you asked me about it first ... Oh well. It probably can't be moved now :/

(I am mowing down all the poppies, though. Seriously, why.)
