The rod would be interesting and I nice nod to norse mythos. How exactly would the rainbow bridge look? Is it more like a rainbow stair?

So I see three options for implementing the Rod of the Bifrist:

    1. The rod comes in dungeons, easiest to implement but makes getting to the Frist completely luck.

    2. If we wanted a mob to access to the Frist, I think adding a whole new one just to get their is a bit too much. How about Ice Trolls (or Yetis, I prefer that name) that rarely spawn in the Overworld cold biomes? When defeated the Overworld Trolls drop the rod.

    3. Or we could move the ice castles to the Overworld and have the Baron serve as a miniboss guarding the entrance. I imagine the baron looking somewhat like the ice king from adventure time, with the villager model.

Of those three, #2 looks like our most sound option. Because #1 leaves there to be a limited number of those in the world, and despite the sheer size of MC's world, is not multiplayer friendly. #3 just doesn't quite feel right. I mean, a miniboss to enter a dimension that's non-linear feels... Off. Even if the dimension was linear progression.

The castle seems like a neat entrance to the Frist, but having a boss there just doesn't resonate well with me. Breaks the non-progression oriented feel, and since Minecraft is a very multiplayer game, more than one person should be able to make changes to the castle. Plus, the deed item seems like it would be a nuisance to keep track of.

It's not something I thought of much. But back when I first started playing, I really wanted a friendly enderman or creeper. Partly because they spooked the heck out of me at the time.

I feel that there are a lot less people playing the proper survival Minecraft, and a lot more creating command block driven maps and complicated redstone creations. Anyone else?

    Yes.

The thing is, Survival mode over the years has largely been neglected in favor of things such as maps. Survival also isn't what it used to be back when it was the thing to play years and years ago. Doesn't quite have that same feel that it did.

Command blocks and to a lesser extent redstone on the other hand have been getting lots of attention ever since they were introduced, and still are to this day. Because of this extra fleshing out of features, there's simply more to do with it over normal survival. You can make adventure maps, minigames, custom bosses, custom mechanics, etc. You name it, and it can be done with enough work. Not only this, but the coder type of folks typically like hopping on every now and then to make large, complex contraptions like in-game computers. That's not a bad thing.

However, with the introduction of the shop in mobile editions and I assume now bedrock editions, it certainly feels like Minecraft is being pushed as a platform or engine, over the game itself.

I usually go with whatever. I prefer to live in forests, or anywhere near lakes. It used to be I'd live in villages in deserts. For the type of home, I usually make a large and fancy wooden house, a large tower, or a underground bunker.

There's a particular reason why magma blocks do that. See, when you expose something so hot to water, it boils. You can't exactly swim well in massive amounts of bubbles, now can you? This can also sort of explain why you get air from magma blocks underwater.

Mammoths should just be axed. We haven't really discussed them much and I don't see what they can add to this dimension.

Regarding the Sorrowind, IMO, it should probably be a bit bigger, and have a slightly higher aggro range. I'd also suggest a slgiht adjustment to its look or shape. It seems a little bit generic, although I don't want to stray too far from its current form. Perhaps something similar to a zephyr.

-As for the cloud terrors, I may have come up with something else for them. Although because of this they may be named "prismites" instead.

I'm thinking of making them a more crystal-like creature (still capable of flight) that disguises itself among large batches of crystals that spawn on the surface and underground. They would attack if you try mining their crystals, or if one spawns flying randomly, by trying to shoot one down

Upon death, they drop crystals and/or crystal shards of varying color. If we haven't found a use for crystals yet, being able to customize armor and weapons (mostly visually but with very minor buffs), create colored light blocks, perhaps a sort of range weapon, or a sort of utility block. For shape, I can see about sketching one.

For the slimes which I vote to call "slushes," I forgot, what was everyone's thoughts on that? Didn't I need to make something involving a visual for the tool it would provide?

Though that poses the question of "why did the Tundrans keep building Engineers when they started trying to kill them". Perhaps the Engineer is self-replicating.

I don't really think lore is what people are going to be worried about. I have to agree with fishg, too.

At the current state we've come up with a lot of neat ideas, but for most of them haven't closed the discussion. The current list of potential mobs:Wintry- Wolftopia has mentioned a plant called frostlength that these creatures eat. We should finalize what exactly that is.
Mammoth- With tamable frores mammoths are all but useless. One idea I had for them is when ridden they slowly take the player to the Gear, as if they are on a pilgrimage to the ancient site where it was constructed. Shift right clicking would toggle this on and off, so they could still be controllable.
Frore- This ties into the mammoth question. If we still intend on making frores tamable, who will it work? I think the best way would be the rarely find an abandoned egg, and should you take care of it it'll hatch and be your friend. Remember that the foremost priority of frores is to be a hostile threat.
Badprenup's Cloud- We need to decide a name. Names previously suggested: sorrowind, frigit, boread, gust, chill. Everything else is done.
Cloud Terrors- Only the concept has been suggested. We still need to work on the full appearance and spawning rates. The behavior may end up more annoying than interesting, and the name may be too similar to the appearance of the cloud mob.
Ice Trolls- I reskinned the mutant zombie to try and get something close to it's appearance. I spent hours trying to get the darn 1.7.10 mod to run.

Wind Spirits- Just suggested. I like the idea of a tornado mob, but I think it should be kept to only one variant. I also fear we may be adding too many mobs now...

Gear MobsAutomations, Shockers, and Engineers- For the most part these are done. Steam, could you finish the coloring of the first two? Alternatively someone could make a model. Lastly we'll need the drops decided on, probably just copper scarps with the rare chance of a musket (or crossbow).
Villagers- Because this seems everyone has their own opinion on this topic, let's make a poll on which NPCs should be added. The options will be Tundrans, Wolfmen, Neither (no NPC's in the dimension), and Other (please comment). I still feel like NPCs wouldn't fit that well into the Frist, currently no other dimension has villagers and the ones you've presented (while interesting and with impressive drawings) just don't fit imo. But this is a collaborative thread so we'll see what the majority thinks.
Juggernauts- Now this sounds good. I like how we have an anti-speed (shockers) anti-tank (juggernaut) and middle ground (automations). These could function almost like minibosses throughout the Gear. Their sound could be a deeper version of automations that breathes terror into the player. But they should become more common once you get to the Engineer's room. I like the concept for it, but I think the head should change to differentiate it from the Autos and fit with the brute theme. I'm imagining it built into the body, almost so that it is one giant rectangle, with a long narrow "eye" running across. Like this:

    See the source image

    [/indent]

How did that mod take hours to get running? xD That's my big question!

I'm a little iffy on mammoths. Sorrowind sounds like a good name for the cloud dude. I'd like if at all possible to include cloud terrors and wind spirits/whirlwinds. Not quite a fan of the NPCs at this time. Ice troll... Eh. Don't care for it. For juggs, sounds like it could be a neat idea.

Really, I'm frustrated that I can't keep my focus on this and finalize cloud terrors or the slimes. =/ [I'm working on a few other projects so this is straining.]

posted a message on How to be a better builder.

Something you have to keep in mind is those maps were built not by one person, built by several people, using build-assistant tools, made over the period of a couple weeks or so. Believe me, I can relate. I've been in your rut before. One other things to remember is that this sort of thing takes time. This like lots of things isn't something that can change overnight (sadly)

Start by observing. Look at how builders use their blocks. Ask yourself questions, and find your answers within other people's builds. Not all creations and maps use the same sort of scale, for instance. You want to use different blocks in different themed areas.

Things will slowly come in with time, like depth, color palettes, etc. It'll click slowly. And as you get older, you'll begin to learn them with greater speed. However, beware about where and who you ask regarding this sort of thing. Some builders and artists I've found from personal experience will not hesitate to take advantage of you to feed their over-inflated egos, or will simply ignore you. Which is unfortunate.

That sounds great. I'll draw it later. I think it'd have two big smokestacks on the back instead of one, and to indicate it's about to fire it'd shoot more smoke out with embers, maybe even with some sort of train-whistle effect.

The weapon itself should be fairly simply named- it's up to the player to give their tools a cool title, after all. I figure "Steam Cannon" would work well. To balance it, you would have to carefully manage pressure with a dial on the outside of the cannon; too little and the cannonball will just shoot forward a little and hit the ground, but too much and the gun will explode, taking away a huge chunk of its durability and inflicting high damage on yourself. It would also probably consume not just copper cannonballs, but also coal, to represent the fuel its boiler is consuming.

I like the idea of the steam cannon. However... A train whistle, you say? There is no way you're including that and not having it drop so we can attach it to our minecarts. I'm not necessarily jesting, either. Sounds like a neat little thing to have. Perhaps could be used to scare mobs away from tracks as well as fulfilling our horn and whistle spamming needs.

What if the frore makes a sound that is similar to "frore"? This could explain why they are called frores. I made some example sound effects:
    Idle: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2ApagiuefghYTRPMEQ2aDdIVzJ0dDVPZW1IeFZkTDBfR21n/view?usp=sharing
    Alerted to Player: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2ApagiuefghaUQxR1NYT0dhajBUUGl2NVFfWFBEOHBqY2NZ/view?usp=sharing

I'm not very good at accents or impression but I did my best to get the idea across. I tried to make the sound similar to the raptor sound effect from the Jurrasic Park movies. For reference (starts 3 seconds in):

I believe I'd be able to get on board with that just fine.

Just curious, why does "Frore" bother you?

Sometimes I'm not the best at putting my thoughts into words. It just... I can't seem to put my finger on exactly what. Maybe because it sounds similar to "frost," and doesn't roll off the tongue well? An image of a dimension or prehistoric bird-like creature wouldn't be the first thing in my head when I hear "frist" or "frore." Feels kind of clunky.

I agree. Though it's still a little exciting, it's harder to get excited when something is so overdue.

It is. Despite that and the fact I rarely touch Minecraft, I still look forward to seeing reefs and fish in the game, and I hope newer players enjoy the additions.

Heh. Hehehe... Brings me back to when I first joined the game. Man I was steamed that the fish mob wasn't in the game. Good times.
