Yeah I suspected a memory leak.

The IP didn't change. I was able to ping my modem from my router to the modem. However anything outside of the internal network couldn't ping the modem.

I rebooted the modem and everything seems fine now. Interesting, eh?

The system has 4 gigs of RAM, and I had only allotted 900MB of RAM to the server. I had plans to give it more memory, but my goal at that time was to just get it operational.

I'll look into making it do scheduled reboots. Thanks for the help.

Built a small server to run MC.
Got it up and working last night, people we're playing outside of my network, and I was in my network playing.

    Fine and dandy.

Today I find out the server isn't working.

I couldn't access it externally, and no one else could. I tried Remote Desktop to check it out, and that as well timed out.
I tried pinging the machine, that timed out.

As far as I know, there was no power outtage and the server never shutdown from yesterday to today.

I went over and was able to connect via Remote Desktop though the internal network (this is my only way of getting a visual of the computer).

The MC server was completely locked up. It had used up all of it's allotted RAM and no one was on. All 853Mb of RAM roughly.

Eventually I saved the world and quit. Restarted the server, that was fine. Didn't suck up all the space. Yet.
This is very weird to me. I've never heard of something like this before and I see no reason why.

This also doesn't explain why no one externally can connect to the server. Restarting the MC server did not solve the issue either, expectedly.

Nothing changed from yesterday to today. I double checked port forwarding and all that. It's all good.

    Still can't ping the machine.
However an online Port Checker reports port 25565 is open.
I thought Port Checker basically pinged your machine through a specified port. I guess I'm wrong, because this wouldn't make sense if so.

Any ideas on what's going on? Internet in all other areas still work. The server can go online, it's just people can't connect to the server now (server referring to the machine, and by extension the MC Server).

Something must have changed, and yet I'm the only one who even knows how to use Remote Desktop in my family. And connecting to it proved that there was no reboot.

Did I get attacked or something? I'm completely clueless on what happened, and how to solve the connection issue

    All help appreciated

I'm getting black screen problem as well. It was working a few days ago, and I'm installing it exactly the same. I tested it multiple times.

    Nothing added - works fine
Texture Pack added - works fine
Mod added - works, but mod obviously doesn't work as it needs the mod loader
    installed modloader - black screen

I've repeated this process about 5 times to ensure I'm really doing it right. I've also just tried installing the modloader by itself and it indeed causes the black screen.

    Wow.

    Lol.

Well thanks for all of your help, it's been great. Hopefully I can get this working at my moms house then. That is, as soon as I fix the wifi there :l

Well, I tried hardwiring it yes. This implied that the modem is acting as a router (wireless router? little confused here) as well.

Anyway, I experiment with changing it, broke my internet (again) and decided that was not the right answer lol.

So, there's nothing I can really do about it then. It's not my modem, just something out there in the aether?

    Wow.

    Edit:

    Maybe?

Hm. I don't think he sent me any messages...

Well even so, what does this mean? My server is getting to my modem and thats it?

Edit: Traced myself connecting to an FTP server.

It showed my pc sending data to my modem, then my modem sending it to the server, and from there it was an interchange between the two, as it should be.

So what's causing an issue with the MC server?...humph.

Ah, sorry. The order of the logs got scrambled. Here, this makes a little more sense.

Alright, there's communcation between my pc, to the modem twice in a row.
Then there's a UDP contact from HIS external Ip to my pc, immediately followed by a ICMP message, which as I researched, are used to alert delivery failures.

The UDP ports are the same as before
    Source: 50167
    Destination: 57832

So, it seems he's trying to send his data, but it's still going to the wrong port.
I'm gonna put screen shots up in a second. I feel describing it is confusing lol.

Redid the test with my firewall off and xfire closed (and internet and skype, although no one was talking to me on skype).

Idk what to make of the results. When he tried to connect I got a MASSIVE wall of TCP lines.
First number is the source (my local ip), second is the destination (his external ip)

    192.168.2.104 -> 174.52.216.67

HOWEVER! It's under the protocol ICMP, and receives the error message "Destination unreachable (port unreachable)"

So...huh? lol It's blocking outgoing ports?

And I don't see his Ip ever contacting me. I see my modem contact my pc, but I don't ever see his Ip as source, only destination

    Ah, looked up UDP.
UDP sounds a lot like something a chat application would use.

His IP isn't under the TCP section as far as I can see. I'll try again after exiting xfire.

Well. We were talking on Xfire lol. But I was under the impression there would be a proxy between us after it went through xfire.
I don't really know how xfire relays the messages though, it may be directly to me

    Huray for news!

Alright, mixed results on the trace. It did in fact detect him trying to connect. Here are the results

    174.52.216.67--192.168.2.104----UDP ----Source port: 50167----Destination port: 57832
    ^His Ip ^.........^My Local Ip^..^Protocol^..^Self explanatory^.....^Self explanatory^

    So things to note:

It's connecting through UDP, not TCP (good? bad? ugly?)

and his Destination port is WAY off. How does that happen? You saw my port forwarding settings, their spot on, no?

Edit: Oh, my firewall was ON during this test (forgot to turn it off)

Okay, after officially resetting my entire modem and by some miracle restoring it, I have concluded that there is a firewall on my modem, but it is turned OFF.

    Soo....now what?

Call your ISP, see if they block any ports themselves.

Sorry, didn't see your post up above on WireShark. I just installed and am trying it out now.

I remember looking that up a while ago. I think they only block the regular ports, like 81 and 27 or something around there. I'll double check.
