erm cant go deeper then bed rock.............. unless its on another world like Ender or Nether

I meant the developers should make the world deeper, and then add layers that change the terrain and enemies the deeper you go. It would be a simple and non-intrusive addition to the game.

I'm not saying you need to tear down the structure of the game to make way for a new one. Survival Mode wouldn't be changed by the inclusion of bosses and new, more difficult places to explore at deeper layers of the earth (layers that go deeper than bedrock, thus only adding content instead of changing the game in any way). It honestly wouldn't change the way the game is played in the slightest, on Survival or Creative. Rather, it would add more substance to the game, not just more varieties of wood and flowers. Why did Mojang add the Adventure Mode then if Minecraft was supposed to be played like a game of building blocks only? It almost sounds like you guys are afraid of change, but really, what would change? Would you really not be able to play the game the same way if some transparent elements of another game were added to Minecraft? I'm merely suggesting that taking notes from a similar game could help Minecraft break out a little from its rigid "mine materials so you can build with said materials" formula.

Ever since I got into playing Terraria awhile ago when the 1.2 update came out for it, I've felt like Minecraft has less of a purpose and I really can't see any other way of playing the game other than building stuff. I wish there was more to it than that because even the exploration and mining all seems like a means to an end, and that end is building artificial structures that don't really serve a purpose other than looking pretty.

Sure it's satisfying to dedicate yourself to a build and watch it form, but whereas in Terraria, there is a logical and addicting progression to things that give the game focus and playability. In Terraria there are bosses to conquer, difficult areas and enemies to overcome, and incredibly cool items and loot to obtain that enrich the experience and feel genuinely rewarding to obtain (wings that let you fly, magical weapons with various effects, and accessories that let you climb walls, double jump, or grapple with a hook onto surfaces).

I know Minecraft is about freedom and all, but I really wish it didn't require you to make your own fun; at least give us an option that is more fun than reaching The End. The game also desperately needs at least an item, armor, etc. that makes vertical travel quicker and more fun than just making block stairs. When I finally got a grappling hook in Terraria, it felt like Christmas morning.

Here's a few suggestions that I feel could make Minecraft better while preserving its spirit:

    1. Strata: Make the world deeper and add layers to the earth; adding more difficult enemies and unique cave terrain at deeper layers.

    2. Bosses: Add more bosses to the game that drop rare and valuable items when slain. You could summon them, or they could come after you when certain conditions are met.

    3. Accessories: Terraria has a catalogue of awesome and interesting accessories that enrich the gameplay experience and make it feel different. A grappling hook for hooking to surfaces and travelling vertically, wings for limited flight, boots and claws for climbing walls, and various other things that make things less of a hassle and more fun once obtained.

Minecraft has its own uniqueness if you couldn't tell. The last thing I want is for Minecraft to start morphing into a Terraria-styled game.

You'd still have the option of playing the way you want; that's why there is Creative Mode and the Peaceful difficulty setting. As it stands now, Minecraft is and always will be a brilliant game, but I'm tired of all of the aesthetic updates that lack substance. They don't have to change the game, but I would expect something substantial and worthy to be added someday. If Minecraft ever gets to a 2.0 release, that would be the perfect time to not necessarily change up the formula, but add a new formula on top of the existing one.

EDIT: Here's a thought. They could add Strata to the game like Terraria. What this would mean is to make the world deeper and make things change and become more difficult when you reach a new, deeper layer of earth. Nothing established in the game would change, but a whole new depth (no pun intended) to the game could be added by including more difficult enemies and unique, explorable cave terrain at deeper levels.

Very excellent update Mojang. It makes the world of Minecraft far more robust and explorable. Yet, ever since I got into playing Terraria awhile ago when the 1.2 update came out for it, I've felt like Minecraft has less of a purpose and I really can't see any other way of playing the game other than building stuff. Isn't Microsoft's contract running out soon? I read a post by Jeb that said when the contract runs out, they will highly consider other consoles. I would like to play MC on a console, but not on that -box one. I was going to decide at E3, and I decided PS4. So I hope they will make a PS4 version. Mojang will get more money that way.

That's good to hear. I'd really love to see how this game does on both the Xbox One and PS4. Also considering the fact that Sony may have this generation in the bag already, Minecraft would flourish on the PS4 and lots of Playstation gamers would get to see what the fuss is about.

I hope Mojang is prepared for their first major failure. The Xbox One will be dead on arrival when it launches. Mojang should really make a PS4 version if they want Minecraft to survive on consoles. Sony is very supportive of indie developers and they have shown tons more respect to all gamers than Microsoft has period. I really hate to see the Xbox One getting this wonderful game when frankly, it doesn't deserve the support. I guess Microsoft can just throw enough money at anything and get what they want though.

I've been looking at that Mo Creatures mod and when I went down the list to the manta rays and whatnot, it really made me think how lacking ocean biomes are. Except for the rare squid here and there, they really are empty and uninteresting. I'd really love to see a bunch of new sea creatures added to them to actually make finding an ocean biome an exciting event instead of a huge pain in the butt just to get to the other side.

For that matter, I hope there's a focused update one day that sort of fleshes out the Overworld and Nether a bit more with more creatures, more random buildings/biomes/etc, and maybe even some cool events like a zombie horde appearing randomly or asteroids crashing and yielding some sort of space substance. Just some food for thought.

Not going to say much but you have more than proved our point Yaz. You weren't treated with respect because you hadn't earned it, you assumed you deserved it. Your immature reaction to all of this has more than proved us all right - and you have done nothing but benefit the server in your passing. I'll be sure to look after Valefore in case you ever come back ;)

It's the act itself that counts more. The fact that the server drove an honest, hardworking, moderator even, to the brink with its disrespect and its Admin's arbitrary morals leaves a far more powerful message that will speak long after I am gone and my work has been stolen and turned into a shrine unto the server's power games. You people turned what was a video game that I enjoyed so much with friends into something to be despised. I still love MC and continue to play it, and I am happier playing it now than I can ever remember on The Divine Crusade.

P.S. Whatever is done with my work (Valefore) is blood on your hands. To take another man's art, twist it, and call it your own is not only a travesty to the game, but heinous as a human being.

P.P.S. As for the news article on the homepage, I think it's rather cute how Fab talks about me and insults my way of life so brazenly when he claims to share a common military experience. I hope he reads this, because I want to tell him that he knows nothing of pride and honor, and I'm disappointed that he didn't learn about it during his 5 month-long boot camp. He isn't real military and it's disgraceful for him to act like he's hot s**t and insult another man's honor. I've been in for over a year now, and not only that, I signed up for it and still have 5 years to go before my contract is up. He's a brat who was forced into it and left that way of life the first chance he got without taking anything useful from it. I really did hope he would've changed in that amount of time, but all it gave him was a sense of entitlement and false status. Don't wear your country's pride on your shoulder then mock others who do as well, especially when they've made a much larger sacrifice than you have, it's despicable and low. Don't you ever insult me as a servicemember again.

Just as an update, Mtgcostello's contest is over and now construction on the Sky Sanctum of Valefore is beginning. Lots of progress has been made on the Underground Sanctum as well, and the place is quite a treat to behold. I'm an ambitious guy, and I've got dedicated and talented help. If you're mature and are a talented builder, feel free to ask if you can join in on the fun. I will require a test of sorts though, to prove yourself. Please have at least one impressive build before you ask. :D

Go ahead and check out progress if you ever have the time. Just /Warp Valefore Yazu13

That will lead you to the project site and a view of some of the most stunning feats of hard work and brilliant minds collaborating to breathe life into something truly impressive.

Probably getting close to the 1.3 release if this snapshot mostly deals with bug fixes and tweaks. 1,3 is already a splendid package, I would take its feature set already as it is. I'd be happy if Jeb released it sooner and didn't bother adding any more content since 1.3 is plenty hefty.

    Handsome ba***ard.

PS: I love you Yazu, merry me?

I wouldn't be merry with you even if you knew of a magical meadow where the blueberries are just begging to be picked.
