Oh wow, I did not know the Quark mod even existed. It is absolute genius! +1 for adding support for that one.

I don't usually care much for painterly/cartoony packs but this one is exceptionally well done.

So I have settled in on this awesome server! It is a really well run server and the community is really fun. Best Towny server without a doubt!

Popped on your server briefly and loved the spawn area! Honestly though I have no idea what a Towny server is. lol Primarily have played single player modded or small modded servers with friends. Seemed like a nice friendly server though.

Been really hard to find a flat enough area to build on without having to go to creative and spend a ton of time leveling off a big area. It isn't much of a problem until you start leveling up the towers and want to build walls and for that to really be effective they need to be all at the same level and flat space between them.
But then I guess building colony isn't supposed to be easy either.
edit* - And of course right after posting this I find an epic seed!

I'll do that in a bit
Just been going over stuff with Cody on SEUS and he sent me a link that Captain Sparkles put out a video of the current SEUS release today.
Guess what resource pack he also used in the video folks! Jordan is always Mr default so to use CH on his channel is pretty dam cool, would have been nice to see some day time footage but any footage is great
The new blocks look great....but damn the shaders look amazing! Makes me wish I had a computer that could run those.....

I feel like Chroma Hills is getting more cartoony as time passes. Aside from the evidence in the logo variants, some of the textures that have been remade (planks, leaves, glowstone, stone, cobblestone, etc.) have gotten more cartoony and less hyper realistic after their remake. Not that it's a bad thing mind you, cartoony packs have more charm and fit a not hyper-realistic game better.
Still looking great though!
That is actually the whole point to ChromaHills. It is supposed to be "realistic" with a cartoony twist to it. I think it is really well balanced between the two. Sy has even stated he was trying to bring it back to a more cartoony style as he had intended since some of the textures had drifted to the "hyper-realistic" side of things.

WOAH what happened there!?
RANT MODE ON
One thing I try and do is put a lot of effort in and when I put out a release its a real visual hit to the players eyes with lots of updates and new features that make it worth their while.
There are pack makers that make 1 or 2 textures and call it an update just to keep the downloads flowing in. That actual REALLY grinds my gears and I think quite lame. I am as always blown away by the numbers using CH but could you imagine what my downloads would be if I forced you all to download a new update every couple of textures............ look at the size of each of my change logs!!! LOL
It's a cheap shot way of gaining popularity and keeping ahead of the crowd, I think rules should be brought in as to how packs are updated to allow for a fairer system. Places like Curse and Planet Minecraft are abused like this and then its impossible for other more worthy packs/artists (who hold off to give a more fulfilling update and deserve to get noticed) to get anywhere near the top as once players see these "update packs" with big numbers they just go and click on whats "popular" adding to the numbers keeping them at the top. Whether the pack is any good is almost an irrelevancy as they are downloaded because of how big the number is next to them. Many players don't read through pack threads on a forum they go to a site that has a popular list like Curse/PLM and click on whats "popular"
I was going to move CH on to Curse but not with the way its currently set up, its totally unbalanced/flawed to the point that the list positions are unlikely to change much. I'm proud CH isn't driven by a popular list, that's not to say I don't promote it (of course I do) but that is going off topic.
Anyways, I was discussing this with some people about moving CH to Curse and it kinda flowed into my answer to you for some reason!
RANT MODE OFF
In answer YEAH i'm looking forward to a break
DO you guys feel more excited and look forward to when I put out a release with a huge change log with many new things?
I prefer to have larger updates. The others that make tons of little updates, while some of them are quite good, I tend to ignore until the changes accumulate over time. Obviously many other people don't do that. I respect your decision to not "game" the system. Another texture artist I respect who also follows your same style of updates is Misa. So you are in good company there.

My kids grew up first watching me play games like Quake, Doom, Descent, etc. (we are talking the DOS version, brutal eye killing gaming in all its glory) and then 3d acceleration came and Half-Life, Unreal, etc. Then they reached an age where they could play games with or against me.My kids grew up as gamers and now they have Bachelor of Applied Science degrees in computer programming and basically program video games (Millsims) that our military uses to train. My kids were also home/private schooled and even in that environment other parents thought we were awful for letting our kids play such violent games. My kids never gave me any problems at all. Why? BECAUSE MY WIFE AND I WERE ALWAYS INVOLVED IN OUR CHILDREN'S LIVES. Good parents raise good kids to be great adults. Self absorbed narcissistic uninvolved parents have given us the crappy society we have today. Video games have nothing to do with why things are so screwed up.

show us the mod api!
Seriously minecraft is ok and all but it is the mods that really make a difference. The mod api should have been priority number one a few releases back. Some of the mods are just barely getting to 1.6.4 and quite a few refuse to move past 1.5.2.
Nov 21, 2013Twitch TV live streaming.....interesting........... and also a horrible resource hog Not sure that this should have been on any sort of priority list considering how incredibly buggy 1.7.2 is but the big fixes are certainly welcome.Posted in: News

It was nice seeing 160 FPS again. 1.5.1 seems to be working just fine.
I agree, this release seems to have fixed the performance issues I was having. Might actually be able to run an hd texture pack again

Hm, but shouldn't that also include natural block updates (e.g. cacti growing), tile entities updating, light recalculation and in general any update caused by an entity? As I mentioned I don't know anything about this stuff, but I always assumed that everytime the data of a chunk changes a chunk update is executed.
It does, however it should not be as high as it currently is.. Something is causing abnormally high chunk updating. ON 1.4.7 I can stand still and eventually the chunk updates settle down to the 0-10 range with random intervals where it goes higher due to lighting updates etc. 1.5+ has the chunk updates at a constant 35-50 no matter what. 1.4.7 I can run at a pretty steady 60-90 fps, 1.5+ I never get above 30 fps.
Mar 16, 2013Posted in: NewsQuote from Random_Guy_32
I'm not an expert, but doesn't a chunk update mean something happens in that particular chunk?
Chunk updates happen when loading new chunks or when you make changes to them. If you are standing still and doing nothing after a short time the chunk updates should be very low. Constant chunk updates results in laggy performance and low fps.
Mar 16, 2013The main problem seems to be the non stop chunk updates. I can stand in one spot for an hour and the chunk update stays at a constant 30-50 chunks. This is dragging the framerate down and making it basically unplayable. Adding more stuff is nice but there is no point if you can't play the game. Think I will stick with 1.4.7 for a very long time or until they finally figure out how to optimize java and the rendering engine.Posted in: News
Nov 25, 2012I actually think that optifine and mojang not being able to work a deal out was a good thing. Instead of being able to do a quick hack on the engine and toss out a crap release with a quickly coded crap api it forced them to go back and rewrite the engine. Basically starting from scratch and trying to do it right. So yes it delayed the api release but in the long run I think it will be for the best.Posted in: News
