Whenever your fishing,your hand/fishing stick doesn't show up only the the thing you put the bait on shows up and the string.Thats all that shows up!
Yeah the same thing has been happening to me, when I cast out my fishing rod, only the bobber and string appear. It looks pretty weird. Must be a 1.6 glitch or something.
EDIT: I just tested it in a new world, and it seems it's my texture pack's fault. The fishing rod shows up fine in the default texture pack, but not in my downloaded one when it is casted. You might have the same problem.
The META-INF folder is like a virus scanner for Minecraft, if it detects something wrong with the vanilla Minecraft (like a mod), it will prevent Minecraft from starting, in an attempt to prevent possible further corruption by playing.

Please do, any constructions in this world (especially on some of the spectacular land formations) are definitely worth showing off.
