    Quote from Redstonecrafter2

Bad update. Now slime farms are useless. -.-
    Hope Jeb will remove that.

How are your farms useless? It allows you to get resources still, right?

    Quote from Redstonecrafter2

No Slimes should be very rare. Also 10% ist too much. Better would be 0,0000000001%

How would making a fairly unconsequential mob, that many rarely see, even more ridiculously rare help things? Seriously, one ten billionth of a percent chance of finding a slime would be better than 10%? That would kill slime farms even more than you believe this snapshot will and make the slimes not only more rare than spider jockeys but also so rare that they might as well not exist.

Okay, for those who start and are bugged about the spawning fuzzy cloud thing. Go to the level.dat file for Minecraft and find the SpawnX and Spawn Z attributes. That should give you the exact spawning coordinates for your world.

It was my impression that the villagers would not want to trade with you if they dislike you enough. Which kind of makes sense when you think about it. I wouldn't want to trade with somebody that just killed or caused the death of my friend/neighbor/child/parent.

posted a message on New item sprites + New sounds = Bad
Since this has been debated much in the past weeks, I feel the need to ask the following questions. Why do you think the new sounds and food sprites are bad? What about the originals, besides nostalgia, makes them better than the new sounds/sprites?

    Ah, ok, my bad.

I just started playing a couple weeks ago, and just started looking at the forums a few days ago. I decided this looked fun and started it out... spawned in an ice plains biome, which I'd never even heard of before. Not a lot of wood here, and I have less daylight than usual because I'm right between two mountains. Haven't seen any animals other than pigs, and for some reason, the spiders aren't dropping string for me to make wool with, so no bed. So far, I mostly sit in my dirt hut at night and wait for dawn.

    Should be fun...

Wow, that's unfortunate. Anyways, spiders have a chance of not dropping string. Keep at it or explore for sheep. You'll get the wool eventually.

Wait, we can do that? I figured we weren't allowed to make compasses until the iron age...

You aren't. PyroOfZen is on the Diamond Age.

    Quote from Dezibahn

Huh, the spawn changes? I never realized... I'm usually fortunate enough to only get killed AFTER I slept in a bed. =P Yeah, find some way to mark your first spawn and build around that, would be my suggestion.

Interesting. I learned something new. ^_^

Yeah, its a fuzzy cloud around the spawn point. It's really annoying for me since there are trees and stuff around my spawn.

    Quote from Dezibahn

Lol, fail. I thought about it briefly, but by the time I had the stuff to make a compass, my castle was big enough to clearly show up on an in-game map, so I just went and made me one of those, that way I could catalog my surroundings as well. :P

I just made my first map, centered on my spawn. My fortress, outer walls included, take up about 5% of the map and is clearly visible in the center. It was amazing to see.

posted a message on Goddamned bats (this is not a rant thread)

Some of them are, but not to humans.

Except when crossed with humans. Then they beat the crap out of humans.

Anyways, I'd be okay with bats being aggressive if it required some special method to do so. Something like killing several in a group or getting hit by lightning.

You don't know that and neither do I, speaking about the ore generation, that is. But the "mode" I'm talking about relates to favored terrain. Want a ton of mountains? *poof* There it is. Want a ton of water? *poof* There it is. Etc.

Suddenly, the whole point of gargamel and Glacier turn to nothingness.

But wait, seeds hurt the integrity of survival according to you! NOPE. I guess you didn't realize worlds are infinite, leaving you with unexpected... unexpectedness. Although seed sharing can start you at a advantageous starting point, you cannot predict the rest of the world.

Seeds ≠ one thing or another

For the first point, I only mentioned resources since you said it is a "have-everything-instantly-handed-to-you mode" which implies getting resources easier. Judging from Dinnerbone's comments, I would be surprised if ores can have their frequency rate be modified with a slider.

But that's beside the point of this post. Which is that I never said that seeds hurt the integrity of survival. I asked you if they would since choosing seeds allows some basic control for starting, favored terrain. Conceptually, it is similar to having the entire world be pseudo-randomly modified to ones wishes and brings up what I viewed as one of your points. It is my understanding that you don't like the idea of people getting terrain they like from the start and thus not seeing the need to explore.

However, seeds, especially with the seed threads that this forum has, allow one to find a world that starts them where they want IN THEIR FAVORED/PREFERRED TERRAIN. Yes, you don't have the control over the practically infinite world around that spot but why explore if you're in the spot you love?

Oh, and I never said seeds equal anything. Way to miss my point.

Right, and those who want to find favored terrain without challenge should do creative mode (which would have sliders).

Those who want challenge including adapting to their own surroundings, whether it'd be favored terrain or not, should play survival mode. With random generation, nothing determines how hard exploring is, since your favored terrain can be a couple blocks away or a couple km away, etc.

It's survival mode, not "have-everything-instantly-handed-to-you mode."

I'm curious as to how sliders, buttons, and check marks that increase or decrease landscape features to what seems to be a reasonable degree means that survival will become "have-everything-instantly-handed-to-you mode." What is being handed to someone besides having the option in choosing how mountains, forests, caves, structures, etc. are generated with a finer degree of control? Landscape? I doubt things like diamond/gold/iron/emerald mountains and the like will be things that world generation controls enable.

Also, don't seeds already hurt the "integrity" of survival? You can find a seed that spawns you in/near a preferred biome or a village with special loot already. What's the harm in making the general world type more to one's liking when this already occurs?

hey, ive started the challenge again because ive made my castle too cramped for the requierments of the iron age, only problem is... my spawn keeps changing, not by alot but changing all the same, do you just build the castle arround our origonal spawn?

Yeah, that's a feature of 1.3 so that people don't spawn in the same spot for servers. I would say that building around the original spawn point would be ideal. However, the only way to know that for certain now is to make a compass.

Optifine will not help here. It will improve framerate, but mobs will lag, loading will be choppy, black areas will exist, blocks will not drop themselves sometimes etc.

SSP mod fixes it radically, but very few of other mods will work in SSP mode.

I know that Optifine will, of course my OldDays will and... Maybe few other ones.

So a combo of SSP mod and Optifine might help him?

Try Optifine, it might make the game bearable. Exalm's Single Player Mod thing might help if Optifine doesn't. The latter makes the game drop the server during single player, I think. That is probably the source of your problems.

At least one of the problems would be using a processor from 2000-2005. The Pentium 4 line features a single core processor, while Minecraft runs a background server in 1.3+. You're experiences aren't necessarily bugs but your computer struggling to run a game that it isn't technically able to run well anymore. It sucks but besides using a mod, the only way I can think to fix this is to upgrade your computer.

    Quote from ChaosGuardian

Most of the time, the "don't like it don't use it" argument is not a very good one. For example, I think the hunger system needs some fixing. I don't like the fact that when you fall off a cliff, you can wait 5 seconds and your health is completely full.

Example 2: Terrain. I should just get a mod, right?

    Example 3: Trading.

Some things are worth complaining about, even if it seems heavily opinionated. If there is enough proof that a complaint is made up of personal interest, then a mod may be the right solution, or "not using it" is another solution.

Yes, it is pretty hard to avoid the Terrain and Hunger without giving other things up. That is true. However, trading can be ignored. You don't have to trade. The game does not penalize you any more than it did before 1.3.1 if you don't trade.

Also, you're obviously over exaggerating the regeneration from healing. To prove my point, I just tried falling off a 19 block drop. I lost 7.5 hearts of damage. It took approximately a minute to get back to full health while having the hunger bar full. In comparison, on Peaceful, it took around 10 seconds for full health to be achieved for the same drop.

All that aside, constructive criticism should be applauded. Ranting and whining and appeals to emotion that have little to no basis in fact nor pay heed to current, not terrible, compromises in the game should not. The latter does not facilitate proper discussion which is supposed to be the purpose of this forum.

Things do sound a bit quieter... I love it! I'm finally not stuck with the sound volume at 1% because the sounds are stupidly loud and grating compared to any music or videos I play on my laptop at the same time.
