500GB 7200RPM Seagate is still $15 more than when I bought it pre-flood. They do seem to be going down though, which is awesome.
OP, I don't know how much of a choice you have. You are going to need to save up $600 or try to get your parents to match how much you earn and meet you halfway.
Indeed, but ultrabooks also cost around that much. Due to the slim form factor, it actually costs around the same for an average ultrabook. If you are looking into lower costs however (or a netbook), then I highly doubt it would be capable of running games like minecraft smoothly.
Yes, I know. I made this topic before I looked up their prices.
It appears that hard drives are down to ththe price they were pre-Flood. This is good news..
Maybe it would be helpful to actually give a budget indication?
For what you are wanting I can vouch for the newish ASUS N53SM.
Not the best graphics card but plays Minecraft and Portal 2 no problems. Not too heavy, pretty good battery life in office and power-saving mode and looks stylish enough to take to a LAN party, but also smooth enough to use at school without looking like a total nerd.
Got mine for just under €800 a few months ago (when it was basically just released), maybe you can get a better deal on it now.
We've already established that I'm not getting an ultrabook, but thank you for your contribution.
I'm confused, how does getting a tablet destroy to possibility of getting a custom build PC? For that much money, you could get a decent system. HD4000 graphics should be able to handle MC pretty well, but it's still not really capable of maxing it out.
My father was going to have me pick the parts, he'd buy them one at a time, and I could build it. Now that i've got a tablet, he wants me to pay for it myself and being a 15-year old, it makes it kinda hard to save up the...$600-ish I need to buy the parts I don't already have.
No. Just no. I want something that works, not something that's going to melt the skin on my legs if I put it on my lap. It's an overpriced furnace. I don't know laptops at all, but I know that anyting made by alienware is likely to catch fire while it's submerged in water and that they're not worth the money they ask for them.
If you find me one with good specs capable of running MC loaded with heavy mods that's not four grand, then I will consider it. Otherwise, they're too expensive.
If you totally need an ultrabook, make sure you go with one that has an nVidia or AMD video chip.
But if you want to do gaming and programing, a desktop will be the best and least expensive way to go.
Yeah...I thought so.. But I do have a laptop that needs a cord. I could buy a cord and use that (for all but MC, as iit doesn't work on their for some reason) until I get the desktop built.
So, after getting a tablet for my birthday my hopes for builcing a desktop were destroyed. However, I want to buy an ultrabook so I can program onit, play MC and other light games on it, etc. However, I know noting about ultrabooks. It needs to rrun MC, but being able to run Terraria, Portal (If not Portal 2) and Solar 2 would be nice. It needs to run MC good, as I plan on making a rather large mod...so, ,y question is, what reliable Ultrabook would fulfill the requirements while being reasonably inexpensive? Or should I buy a laptop instead?
I think you'd have to find the file that holds the font and replace it with the Skyrim font.
Edit: it's altrnate.png, under the fonts folder. It's incomplete, however.
So, I'd like to begin modding. I know java, amd what I don't understand I can look up. However, I learn best by looking at other people's code, provided it's well documented. That being said, I'd like to know how to decompile the class files the minexraft.jar contains. The first couple mods I hope to make, I need to look at some of MC's native code for it to work. So, my question is: How do I decompile .class files/what programdo I use to decompile them?
Get something like 60GB for boot, you shouldn't need more than that. As for boot times... If you don't care, don't bother.
Manufacturers with good reputation and fast drives include Intel, Corsair, Mushkin, and maybe Kingston.
Kingston SSD's are good, we have one and used iit until our mobo decided to lay in a hole and die. Now it waits for the money so we can build an i7-core PC. Thing loaded Windows 7 in ~15 seconds. On a Pentium.

Yeah, I figured as much...that'll take a while.
Still, though... it's more expensive than the computer I was going to build.

I don't know where thr hell you came from, but what a superb job. You quite possibly just ended an overly-long and complex arguement.
