In the programming details spot, i think its kind of stupid to use collision detection for placing the item.

cant it just position it in the center of the block+0.25 meters?

and i suggest the item will slowly spin around.

Ok, so on the doors: They aren't too high when they don't bob, but they bob over the top. So if we had code that kept them from bobbing, or kept it minimal, then we'd be fine.

Items in case probably shouldn't bob at all, but should still 'rotate' to always face the player.

Ok, I've added the idea of it slowly spinning to the front post. If the comments can't decide whether to include slow rotation, I'll make a poll.

The problem I see with both of these is that it wouldn't work well with the plaque, especially the second one. The cloth "pillow" would seem weird to be under a rotating item, especially when there is a plaque on the front of the block.

Diamond, I'll agree, is more precious than gold. But when was the last time you saw a display case made out of diamond?

Obsidian is not more precious than gold. I have to find gold. I can and have made obsidian in my minecraft basement with 6 iron ingots, some lava, and some water.Either way, I think it would make a weird looking display case.

Ok, glad to see that issue resolved itself.

It is pretty clear people like the large display case idea and REALLY like the cloth&plaque idea. The breaking-the-case-for-items seems to be a little more vague, so I'll leave not consider that decided.

DigitalBoy, I'm going to check on that.

sorry I haven't been actively in here, With the "view your posts" thing down I sort of faded off.

I have very little modding ability: I am newish to Java and programming in general and ModLoaders confuse me. I could read tutorials I guess by I also am low on time.

A torch placed in a display case would make a display case displaying a torch.

Fusing Display cases would just get complicated and I don't see a point in it.

    Mushrants are mildly acceptable.

I guess I can't really say what colors would look best in the nether without looking at it, but the reddish hue of the Nether is an illusion. The Netherrack is red, and the mist is red, but there is no actual red lighting, meaning that blue looks like blue.

Also, Whether or not it is light spectrum or mixed whatsit is irrelevant: Why does it have to be additive color spectrum? Can't we just get "glow powder" from the mushrooms or something? This would allow Notch to be more flexible about which color mushrooms he thinks fit the Nether theme better.

I'd be willing to go to the secondary light level for the shroom's colors, but those are even WORSE for the feel of the Nether.
    Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta.

I'm not going to cross light levels because then you lose out on higher level colors, or make it ridiculously hard to get the higher level colors.

For instance, Red, Magenta, and Green.
Nigh impossible to get Blue from that.

Also, I'll take another look at his image for the burning tools, and ours.

Why must it be secondary/primary computer colors? It actually makes less sense, since in real life yellow replaces green as a primary color.

Maybe you're over-complicating it while inside the box. Take the simple method that deviates from the box. Maybe if you mix a dye with shroom-goo, then you get glowing dye of that color. You don't need to mix only glowing-colors to get glowing dyes.

Mushraves is a ridiculous name for a mushroom in the Nether. You complained a lot about how little was going into the appearance of the Nether in Zurich's thread, but this isn't a good display that you know what you're talking about. While they are useful to the end of make easy dye recipes, the original purple-orange-green Nethershrooms were a much better match for the feeling of the Nether. The same complaint goes towards the Netherraze tools. Zurich's original designs were just plain cooler and more fitting.

I'm gonna attribute the name change to Grey, but personally I laughed because it oddly seemed to fit. The first natural colored light.
And as humans we usually only see colored light through stained glass or through colored Glowsticks at Rave parties.
I intentionally left the Mushraves pretty bare (outside of using the Light spectrum wheel) so they could be used as Torch dye, glass dye, or something else.

As for the Netherraze tools... There isn't really anything different about them...
They still have "Infernum" as the head of the tool, and "Grimwood sticks" as the handles. The only real difference is we actually explicitly stated what they were good and bad for.

I need to clarify: The appearance of The black/weird shaded orange tools seemed to fit the theme better the purple-orange ones. It also compliments the Blood tools better, with black and white tools. Other than the Aesthetics, everything is fine, but color design is important.

That was pretty much the same argument for the Mushraves (besides the name), that the 3 colors you chose don't seem to be good choices for the Fiery and dark Nether, especially when compared to each other. Green, Orange, and Purple seem more prominent, though there might be a better combination.

First of all, Mushrave is the PERFECT name for these things; it follows Existing Nether Naming convention (word that is descriptive of the block; mush from "mushroom", and word that refers to negative emotions or circumstances; rave as in "raving mad") and it alludes to the ability to use the mushraves to throw a RAVE PARTAAAAYYYY!

Second of all, I see nothing out of the Netheraze Tools that Zurick did any better, the only one that I might give him is the Bone Tools, and I'm considering using them for the Blood Gem tool basis, but keeping the red coloration for the heads of the tools.

Glowstone doesn't follow that convention (Unless you have nightmares about glowing, or being made of stone), and I'm very happy to have my soul, and if I want to be a true nitpicker, gravel ,fire, and lava don't either. Only Netherrack follows that convention, with it being in the nether, and rack, refering to the torture rack. Also, Mushraves doesn't make you think of "raving mad," especially with this colorscheme, it actually makes you think of RAVE PARTAAAAAAAAAYS, especially with the color scheme. I don't exactly know why this correlates with the Nether theme you're both working up.

I think this is cool, especially since Zurich left, and I like most of the ideas. My most prominent complaint is about appearance and naming.

Looking forward to heckling you constructively.

(For those who haven't already seen, These are the original Nethershrooms and these were the basis for the Netherraze tools. Compare them with the ones in this thread and if you (dis)agree, please comment).

posted a message on The Aether(Anti-Nether Realm) Current Topic: New Nether
I haven't been really frequenting this thread much since the title became "Current Topic: Notch?" But here's a quick spiel.

I don't know what to think about the Aether Mod that is coming out, except for that the sentries look awesome IMHO. I haven't seen them fire yet, or the visual affects of them firing, etc. but from what I've seen thus far, its nice.

Plus, the image for the sentry is about the only thing you're missing. I think you should probably just ask them to borrow their graphics, then compile the HTML report, and send it to Notch. This should happen before/around your 100 page mark (Exactly?).

I will kill your friends sister. Before that, though... i will yell "LEARN TO EVERYTHING" into her ear and stomp on her face.

Wow. This is way unnecessarily violent, inconsiderate, unhelpful, pointless, unfair, off-topic, off-task, and downright confusing.

You can comically threaten people to not make an unappreciated choice, like I did, but threatening in a forewarning manner a person you don't know for an honest mistake is horrifying.

    Learn to everything.

    Ok, here's what you do.

No en-bulk revamp. Revamp one bit at a time. I'm sure you and your friends can probably remember most of what you discussed anyhow. Then each day focus on one bit. Make a few graphics right now to help smooth over this rough point, and then you can stop for a while. You can remake graphics later when the fervor bulks up again.

You can't let something like this stop you. There's 32 pages of support here, and if you quit I'm going to pour lava on your house, burn your forests, and mod your world so that creepers and ghasts spawn throughout your overworld constantly.

Note: Any insults are merely unscientific personal attacks. I don't actually know you mother, and even if I did, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be a pointless thread.

It will never be added. And we all know that. I am sorry.

Wrong. I'm pretty sure I did not know that.

I hate two things extremely majorly: Pessimism, and Realism (Which is usually just pessimism by a different name). However, in this case, realism is not quite sure. Realistically, this update has a significant chance of being added, once it is well thought through. Notch wants to improve the Nether. We're helping him do so.

You can be pessimistic, and I'll be laughing snootishly.

Almost everything else looks like good suggestions, but we lost track of the main discussion: Mobs & Biomes.

About the lightstone idea: It seems like a tradeoff.

We make the design more logical, since obviously you need something that makes light to make light. But we make the design also more complicated and expensive. The expensive I can live with, but is it worth it to lose the mainstream [] design?

I would prefer 5 vote abilities, because none of the mobs are thought out enough to get behind.
They're either a reskin or just completely undeveloped.

The Nether does need more mobs, but none of the proposed ones are any good.

Well, there are more original ones, like Nethersouls and Imps, but Xurich took up all the extra space with "NO!" votes and general mob votes.

Also Xurich, remember the pick-and-choose-notch philosophy? I think this is one place where it can apply strongly. We don't neccesarily need to eliminate a whole bunch of them, but maybe a few that are a little too controversial. We don't need to worry about there being too many mobs, Notch decides how many mobs there are and which ones he likes.
