Yea, the whole cobble thing is a large reason as to why I'm changing the stone. I also want it to be more useable in building because currently although a good texture, it just doesn't work in buildings at all.
I've already adjusted the colours of the other 1.8 stone textures slightly so they match this one very well since it's a little darker than my old stone. Here's a couple of examples:
Well obviously that's what happens, it's just that this is a bigger power reduction that we've seen for a good while, it should mean the top end cards look quite interesting. Less power also means less heat which is ALWAYS nice (290 and 290x I'm looking at you).
I'm not saying it's a particularly good deal price/performance wise, just an interesting gain power wise. The fact that a card that only draws PCI-e power can match a 7850 is pretty impressive IMO.
That said, I'd never get one, I don't care too much about power considering what I'm running at the moment. I AM interested in the potential lack of heat though.
have G500s myself, no issues with sensor, cannot find anything to back up any sensor problems anywhere so i would take that with a massive shaker of salt, and i would just keep the case
They have teeeeerrible negative mouse acceleration. If you use almost any optical mouse you will notice it and then feel bad about using a g500. It's what happened to me, I got ruined by a non accel optical mouse that cost a heap less. There's nothing wrong with it until you use an optical mouse, I WAS perfectly happy with mine... (example, just type g500 and negative into a search bar and look at how it fills out the rest of the question)
G400 is also much cheaper though, really just a win win. Unless you want the extra button then there's no reason to spend the extra $30 or so.
Also I would just keep the case, it ain't that bad. (just boring)
Well I can't deal with having a stone two people think is bad so its back to the drawing board... Only problem with this is that I don't know how to improve that specific texture/ style anymore. To me its reached the end of the road for that texture so the next stone is probably going to look quite different as it will be made from scratch. Oh well, just had a good nights sleep so we'll see how I fare!
Stone really is the hardest texture to get right IMO. At least if you aren't just going for something clumpy... I've spent two days on stone so far (albeit not working on it THAT often) and its still so so.
Yeah! Sheep, I kinda get the same effects...what you putting in this doctor!
Doctor sheep here, I can confirm that the pack is made from 100% pure love and glory, perfectly safe for human consumption!
Decision time guys! Making new stone is super duper hard if you aren't going for something rough with huge cracks like it used to be. So there are two choices, one: I release the update with the old stone in it and I keep working on a new one for the next update.
Or two: I release the update with this stone I just made and depending on the reaction to it, I either keep it and refine the tiling, add some neat random CTM to it (I promise the CTM will be really good and varied!) or just replace it after the update with another stone I make (If I can - stone is tricky!).
Here's the stone, post back with either feedback, your choice or both!
Not sure what you mean by making the shading on the sides of all blocks the same though, care to explain?
Also agree about the torches, I'm currently de-saturating mine a bit because it also make ores very hard to distinguish as mentioned on my thread. Also makes the area in between dark and the torchlight have some really weird, funky colours. Generally makes the textures in that area look pretty stupid.
it's 2:30 am where I am and I just need someone to go over what I'm thinking before making claims.
Am I seeing things, or does the 7850 beat the 750ti in price/performance?
yes, it's $20 more, although it seems to almost beat it in every game benchmark, aswell as only using 4 watts more idle, and ~40 watts under load...
It's behind the 7850 in a fair few games, whoops it in arma 3 for whatever reason which gives it pretty similar overall performance when things are averaged. It is a little cheaper and apparently a fair whack more efficient though. There's a performance/watt thingy right near the end of the review, 750ti is double the next nearest and 7850 isn't even on the scale...
40 watts more under load is quite a lot for cards that use barely any power anyway. If it keeps that sort of scaling to the high end then 780ti equivalent cards will use bugger all power.
Sharky, I'd advise using a lower resolution if you're just starting pixel art. It will help you focus on using different colours to smooth out shading and probably improve the form of your textures in general. Really hard to fill out a 64x texture with details and make it look natural. Currently your texture is just a bit messy, no real shading and a few of the colours just have too much contrast in comparison to others which really makes them stand out and makes the patterns quite harsh.
Definitely isn't a bad first go with a palette and pixel art though, especially at 64x.
Small avatars like mine upscale to a certain minimum size which makes it looks blurry and terrible, the main section where you select which thread to click on looks rather clunky compared to the current version - the icons to the left are very bland and the thread titles only seem to spread across half the available space which clutters things up. Also the plain white background makes it kinda fatiguing to look at.
Titles across half available space:
On the plus side, I like the new location for quoting, replying, etc. and the new editing looks really nice and well thought out.

Opinions on this one? Is it heading in the right direction or should I just try a different style entirely?

Also australian, probably some other countries too.

I would go for the newer of the two macbooks (bottom choice). 8gb of ram isn't really necessary but could be a possible upgrade down the line.

Oh sweet! I wholeheartedly agree with this, from what I've seen of the pack, doing this suits the texture style perfectly.

I'm glad the stone seems to be going down well too, I'll make some random CTM variants and then upload the update. Thanks for the feedback guys!

I dunno, check this review:
