Well, it is finally here. With about a half hour to spare, I managed to finally finish my jam map.
Based on the backstory of the popular adventure map, Cube Inc., I did my best to recreate the manufacturing facility to what I could. This is some of my best building work and I hope you enjoy it.
Didn't we have someone here, whose computer burned up and he lost everything?
Oh man, that sounds really bad.
One way I have found to sync up saves between both of my computers (desktop and laptop) while keeping them safe if something were to happen is to use Dropbox and symbolic links. (Link to the shell extension)
Basically, a symbolic link is a reference to a file or folder somewhere else on the computer. It may act as a regular folder or file, but it's contents remain in the origin of where the original folder/file is. Using Dropbox, I have my saves folder in my personal cloud, and have symbolically linked that saves folder to the saves directory in my .minecraft directory or my many MultiMC instances. Therefor, I can access all of my saves across every computer and across any instance without losing them to something like that. As long as I have an internet connection, that is.
Well, I just had pretty much the biggest scare of the century.
I loaded up my map, ready to do some work on it again, only to find a portion of my map chopped off. Clean cut.
Well, believe me, when I saw this, I pretty much died inside. That was the end. I looked through my files to find any sort of backup. Now, thankfully, I haven't done much work in the past year and a half on this map. A little here. A little there. I found a backup dated for the 15th of March, 2015. Now in that backup, there was lots of work missing over the time, but the work I had done on this map had not been in the corrupted chunks. So I can copy-paste the work that didn't corrupt, and rebuild other things I did want to change. And as an added bonus, sometime in that year and a half, I loaded it in the wrong version and destroyed all the items. In this backup, I had not destroyed all the items, so it helps me out.
May this be a lesson for you. BACKUP. YOUR. SAVES.
Wohoo! Congratz Witty
I never knew you didnt' complete one map so far :/
I know, it is quite silly. But with not a lot to do recently, I've finally decided it was time to get some stuff done. Life gets quite boring without a real hobby or something to do. With some issues on my part preventing me from doing school, life gets boring day after day just watching Youtube. I'm actually really thinking about starting up work again on my CTM, but at this moment, it's unsure whether or not I can completely follow through. Regardless, it feels good to get that one over with and start working on some more CTMs.
EDIT: Reloaded my CTM with some mixed success. Looks like a good majority of the loot in my map is f*cked. But none of the signs and spawners are screwed. So that is good. Nothing I can't handle.
I am seriously considering using witty's raw food poisoning system, but I'll probably inflict a low level of hunger and weakness instead of poison- just a brief nudge to cook, whilst keeping raw food as a reasonably viable way to heal in a pinch.
I I will have to experiment on using the stat detection for weapons- could make custom rare items rather more cool.
Also, particles are so fun to apply to mobs:)
A random fish has appeared out from hiding. Had lots of exciting events over the past few weeks, including a wedding and a choir concert. Haven't gotten pretty much anything done on my full map (Darn you Hearthstone. Can't get enough of you.) It is totally fine to use it, in fact, I completely encourage you to modify and have fun with the system itself.
Currently, I have plans right now, and I hope to get working on my map soon enough, since things around where I live are settling down. I currently have set a hopeful, yet EXTREMELY tentative, goal of completing my CTM map by the end of the summer. No guarantees on this by any means.
Right now, however, I am working out some IRL things, mostly including a headache that has been going on for just about a month with no let up. Most likely going to see a neurologist.
Can somebody link me to a 1.8 version of worldedit ?
Unfortunately there isn't a 1.8 version of Worldedit, as far as I know. If you are okay working in 1.7, you can look into LiteLoader and WorldEditWrapper.
You know, this post is definitely something to really think about. It may not be something many people might think too much about, but it is something I am going to think about.
Because, albeit being an entirely different person from who I was a year ago, from someone who could barely get out of the hole he was dug in, to someone who is now building a ladder towards the stars, I still struggle with motivation and finding any of my own work worthy. Because I keep comparing myself to everyone else. See how my work stacks up. Usually it doesn't tend to.
It's still a habit I need to break from, I will admit. But things are getting much better now. And that makes me more than ecstatic. I've learned to celebrate small victories. Y'know, if you are going to take anything from my post away, take a step back, and enjoy the small victories.
The Corruption Series is a series of CTM maps, short for Complete the Monument maps, in which your objective is to collect a series of wool blocks from adventurous dungeons and hostile environments. You live in my world now. Now, fortunately, I tend to make easier maps. Either that or it may just be my Canadian roots that make me really nice. But forget all that, I hope you enjoy your stay and enjoy my maps.
2. Find wool for the Monument in chests. Do not use sheep, dyes, or wool made from string.
3. You must use at least Easy Difficulty or higher. Peaceful is not allowed.
4. Survive in any way you can think of. Craft items, place blocks, break blocks, do what you need to survive.
5. Do not leave the map borders (Go up to the ceiling if it is open.)
6. You may use wool from other sources to make beds, paintings, carpets, etc.
7. Have fun! (Yes, that is a rule. C: )
Special Exceptions
On some special occasions, I may add some exceptions to these basic rules, when it comes to special maps, such as minimaps that use gimmicks and to some maps that may not be based on the rules of a regular CTM.
Those rules above have standed the test of time since the beginning of CTM. But now, there are some additional rules to be had now that there have been some upgrades to the engine.
8. If an ender chest is to be provided in the map, it will be specified at the beginning, and you are not allowed to place, break or craft your own enderchests.
9. If a nether portal is to be used as part of the map, you will be notified and are not allowed to make your own nether portal.
10. It is preferred that you do not brew invisibility potions. If it becomes a problem, I can always implement a system to make sure it doesn't happen.
Any other map-specific rules that apply to the map will usually be written into a book called "Additional Rules" and included on the rule board at the beginning of the map.
Map Types
Open World: Usually takes place on an island or in a vast world, and gives the player the freedom to enter whatever dungeon they please.
Linear Branching: Usually takes place on sky islands or underground, and is structured in "intersections" which progresses the player gradually up the difficulty scale.
Linear: Takes you on a simple straight path through the map, you can deviate from the path to get bonus items, but the general path is simply straight.
Difficulty Levels
Easy: Easy is for beginners of the genre. For veterans of the genre, it might feel easier than another mapmakers' easy. This difficulty level may be a challenge, but there is lots of recovery options, and I take it easy.
Normal: Normal is a base difficulty for most of my CTMs. Normal amount of loot, and a bit of a challenge to get through the map.
Hard: Uppermost difficulty for my maps. Less loot, more spawners, less forgiveness. Expect less sympathy. (But no matter how hard I may try, my nice Canadian roots might show up.)
This is the map section of this thread. This is where you will find all the maps I have created.
Full Maps
Status: In development
Version: Working on in 1.7.2, but plan for 1.8+
Map Type: Linear-Branching
Difficulty: Easy
Corruption #01 - Forgotten is the first full map of the series, still in development. This has gone through many renditions, and the current rendition is being worked on. Albeit, the map is at a slow pace, but it is still in development and it is still coming along.

Mini Maps
Status: Released; V1.1
Version: 1.8.9
Map Type: Linear Branching
Difficulty: Easy
Recovery #01 - Look For The Light is the first map in a new series I have started, in a series of minimaps. This is the first map I released, in response to the Strawberry Jam CTM Jam. The Strawberry CTM Jam is a 72 hour CTM minimap challenge, in which mapmakers are challenged to make a 3-objective CTM minimap. With this jam, #06, the theme was traps and trolls. I went with a more gimmicky approach. Enjoy, and remember, when you are lost in the darkness, look for the light.
Recovery #02 - The Aftermath is another minimap made in the Recovery series of minimaps, in response to the Strawberry Jam CTM Jam. With this jam, Jam #10, the theme was "Apocalypse". I decided to base my map on the backstory of the popular adventure map: Cube Inc. Thank you for playing, and enjoy.
Special thanks go to some of the following people who have made me, and my maps, so much better.
- Aimoskeeto, a friend who left a mark on me for her kindness and great attention to detail.
- Infinity8miner, a friend who was there to let me talk when I needed it, and gave me some great ideas.
- Rubisk, for his wonderful knowledge of redstone and command blocks, and teaching me figure out my own systems.
- Sparks and Accidental Games, for their wonderful series of command block modules, Gamemode 4.
- The entire CTM Community. Without you guys, I wouldn't be making CTM maps. C:
