i dont think rain affects spawn rates at night, but im not completely sure.
i also heard that hostile mobs cant spawn within a 40 block radius of the player, but the wiki doesnt really support that. if it is true, then you might not encounter many mobs if you are standing still.

also if you are playing on a server, then it is possible that the mob cap has reached it's limit. maybe someone has built a farm and is hogging all the mobs for themself?

really the best thing to go with quartz is more quartz. there are many different ways to change it's appearance. also obsidian might look good on some texture packs. default obsidian works okay, but i hope mojang makes smooth obsidian and obsidian bricks. that would be perfect for checker patterns

you can make maps bigger?!
wow. i didnt know that.
according to the wiki you just surround a map with paper and it will grow bigger. looks like it can only be done 4 times

but joking aside...i actually really like the new carpets. and horses...well i prefer pigs, but it is not really any skin off my back. maybe i will actually give them a chance

I prefer mountains and arctic. mountains good for mage towers

if you have all that stuff to mine that efficiently then that many diamonds are well earned

i have built many things and finished few. the best thing i ever built was probably the little farm i built in an old modpack. i think it was the yogbox. i had a horse stable and trees covered in fireflies from the twilight forest

building my first house in the side of a mountain. hearing the gurgling and moaning without knowing where they were coming from. after several days i finally got tired of it and dug through my wall to find a zombie spawner. i took out the zombies and found the spawner. at first i had no idea what it was. at first i thought it was the zombies torturing a child zombie.
another moment when i came across the first pool of lava i had ever seen and it reminded me of the magmoor caverns from metroid prime. i was half hoping no giant fire serpent would come out of it. of course i was almost certain that they dont exist in minecraft...and i was right

the last time i died in hardcore mode was when i was using the yogbox. so there is a bit of a story behind this. as i was searching for a place to set up home, i found a nice little ravine in a crescent shape. not a bad place. easy mining access and a pre built basement. so as i built my house i found that there were lions nearby. no way i could take them on with a wooden sword. i managed to trick it into falling into the ravine. so after i got my house set up it was time to start mining. i built an access ladder into the ravine, forgetting about the lion that was down there, and you can guess what happened
