posted a message on Nostalgia and the Sadness of Having Grown up with this game.

Although I usually think of the change in terrain generation ruining it for me in beta 1.8, I think what killed it for me over the years is that the game lost its mystery. When I first started playing the game, it felt like a whole new world. Even though it was a world of blocks, it felt so real and alive. But as I played it more and learned all it's secrets and all there is to know, I could see the patterns; I could see how things worked. I came to the inevitable realization that this new magical world was simply a computer simulation. The game lost its magic. It's like when you're a child and you know nothing about the world around you. You use your imagination to fill in the gaps of your knowledge. As you go to school and learn more, you start to see how the world actually works and the mystery is gone and you focus less on what mysteries lie out there.

I still play minecraft pretty regularly, but I will never again have that feeling of wonder I had when I first started playing

posted a message on What is Your Favorite and Least Favorite Minecraft Mob?
Favorite: Squids. Besides their dye, they don't serve much of a purpose, but they add a lot of atmosphere to the game. And they're adorable.

Least favorite: Skeletons. They are way too accurate. It's almost impossible to kill them without getting hit at least once. They are impossible to kill if you're trying to kill them in water (Their arrows will keep knocking you away keeping you from reaching them). Also, their drops are almost worthless. Arrows and bows can be constructed by other means (Also, once you have a bow with infinity, you don't need additional arrows). Yes, bonemeal is helpful, but with the update to nerf bonemeal, I'd rather wait the extra time it'll take for crops and trees to grow rather than going out of my way to let 3 or 4 crops grow instantly. Bones can be used to tame wolves, but once you tame two, you no longer need bones and can just breed an endless army of dogs using rotten flesh.

posted a message on What are your plans for minecraft?
I'm sticking to my current plan. It seems to keep me playing.

-Design buildings in creative mode that are huge and beautiful but are impossible to build outside of creative.

-Convince myself that it is possible even though it's not.

    -Begin building.

-Realize I've made a huge mistake but it's too late to back out.

-It takes so long to build that the map of the server resets or the server just shuts down and I lose all my progress.

-Spiral into a deep depression and swear that I'm not coming back to minecraft.

-After a few weeks, my feelings of not being satisfied for not finishing my structure creep up on me.

    -Repeat the entire process.

Edit: I actually did manage to finish one of my projects (sort of. Not enough time for the interior. Map reset) but that was only because it was a small project. This is it

posted a message on Weird, strange or otherwise disturbing things found on public servers
I haven't run into anything creepy within the game itself, but a couple years back, I downloaded an extension for chrome that allows you to see the skin of any player name that you type in. My Minecraft username is Wiggycat314 and I was curious if there were any other users out there with a similar username to mine. So I typed in "wiggy" into the search box and a default skin showed up. That either means that the player doesn't exist or hasn't changed their skin if they do. However, then I decided to capitalize the "W" and the result kind of weirded me out. As far as I can tell, the account is inactive because the skin hasn't changed in the years I've been typing that username into the box

EDIT: I guess I could also mention that the inspiration for my username comes from the name of my dead cat

posted a message on A hint?
I think they hint towards new mobs possibly. Not the menu itself, but the sounds the game makes when you select a shader. Some of them are just random sounds, but others sound like potential animals.

The top of that tree up there is at y:193

I found this Savannah Plateau Mountain. The top of the mountain is at 197. The top of the tree is at 203.

I think I found another. I was exploring again and I found a biome called Taiga M, which I think is Taiga Mountains. I'm pretty sure there was already Taiga Hills, but I never knew about a Taiga Mountains

I wish I could tell you. That's not my picture. Ask WiggyCat

I wish I could help too, but I don't remember the location. I was randomly searching the world for more biomes and didn't note their locations. From what I can tell though, they're pretty rare. That one is the only one I found

posted a message on Is it necessary to use a server?
No, it's not mandatory, but it is fun. I played on singleplayer for about 1 or 2 months before trying multiplayer. That is a good amount of time to wait. You should at least play a month of singleplayer before multiplayer though, because once you try multiplayer you'll never go back to singlplayer. I'd say give it a try.

Servers can be overwhelming at first. A lot of servers are bukkit servers. They have plugins that add different aspects to the game, like economies, locking doors and chests, and the ability to teleport to your house or spawn. Just make sure that when you play on a server, you read the rules and ask how to use those plugins. Also be sure to respect other fellow players.

Do not use illegal mods on servers though. You will most likely be banned. I won't tell you what they are or what they do so that you get any ideas. Also, make sure you hide your chests and don't try to build close to spawn. There are people out there that will demolish your home and take all your stuff

posted a message on Minecraft Coming For Xbox One!
I love Minecraft but I'm not going to buy the Xbox one to get this version for several reasons. I already have the xbox 360 edition and the PC, so spending $500 just to get a newer version that is not as good as the PC version is an absolute waste of money. I also don't really support the Xbox one, but that is a different discussion.
