So, what... you would rather have infused stone? a limited crystal resource that forces you out into long crystal hunting escapades, over, creeping growing crystal patches, that can be carefully cultivated and maintained?

Id Like to see the Crimson Rites book be like its own Thaumonomicon with a small research tree into some items that ore thematically like their stuff. Just a thought. It would allow both a little more indepth knowledge of them, some researchy stuff to do, new items, or even just moving some of the current research over to that book as a branch for say the eldritch stuff and ancient stuff ect. Keeping the Crimson Cultist enemies, and this being more like Stolen Knowledge and furthered research.

I'll be honest I'm a HUUGE Lurker, I don't post or comment much, and work far more than I would like trying to make a living than doing fun things like mod making. [and I did make one little mod a few years back.] But for everyone complaining about TC5 not being for 1.7.10 I'm sorry your being left behind, BUT, here's an Idea, just hear me out. Minecraft doesn't take up too much space, hard drives are affordable even if it did. You can Install another instance of Minecraft to try TC5, and stay current, and still enjoy 1.7.10 and all the mods it currently has.
Others have pointed out the Necessity, and overall the GREAT amount of work going in to REWRITING the mod to work with the new rendering engine and all that fun stuff. I'm personally Enthused to see Azanor bring TC5 to 1.8. I'm happy to see any of the modders out there bringing things to 1.8 Forge especially because the team behind forge makes all these mods able to work together with minimal conflict.
I've still got my 1.7.10 TC4 world and all the mods that are installed with it for when I want to play with that. But I also have this new install of 1.8 and TC5 to stay current with one of my favorite mods. And I'm enjoying it, there's not a WHOLE LOT of things I can do yet, but that all is going to come with time. New Golem Mechanics are going to make automation interesting.
Over all, 1.8 is performing better than 1.7.10 did on my machine, and that's a big plus as well. Enjoy a nice game of Vanilla Thaumcraft 5, if you've never played JUST Thaumcraft and really dig deep into what you can do with the new Autocaster and flux/taint mechanics.[I made one hell of a tainted mess of a large area in the name of science. and taint shards.]
For giggles I put a Balanced Shard into the Dioptre It shows the Highest Vis types in the surrounding areas. So that's nifty.

Jan 14, 2012@Xaanos: Yea, I understand the need for network access for the networked filesystem blah blah blah. However my service provider. Verizon doesn't offer unlimited data anymore. and those providers that do? Yea they throttle your connection after a few gigs worth anyway so 4G becomes moot at that. I am also FAR more aware of androids large root dependency, and as I stated in my initial post. I can not root this phone yet.Posted in: Computer Science and Technology
@fm87: Ok, now thats assuming too much. In my oppinion buying an android device for its capabilities is a perfectly valid reason to buy it. Weather or not you root it is a different part alltogether. I don't have the luxury of rooting right now, I can't afford to replace the phone if I screw up. That doesnt mean I bought it for the wrong reasons though. This phone integrates with all my daily activities lets me keep in contact with people. I can Remote to my home computer from it among other things. And even if I don't ever root it, it will still do all of these things.
If I root I can reflash with a new kernal/rom, fantastic I can get rid of verizons bloatware. That would make me happier than hell. I could install that screenshot app. Great! I could wirelessly teather my phone via bluetooth or wifi to my laptop to use the internet without paying for the "teathering" software verizon installed. ok. Not that important to me. Honestly for right now the phone does more for me than any of my previous phones ever did.
I've found some nice software for it outside the android market that is adfree without using root to use the adfree app. I'm fairly content.

To me, the GUI is pretty much identical, except for Android Honeycomb you can move the apps to different pages or not have them show up on any page. The Andriod Marketplace has many more apps, many of them free, but some could be malware. The iTunes App Store has less apps, but you can be sure the app isn't malware. I like either, but I'd rather prefer an Andriod device, because they have a visible file system, and iOS doesn't.
To the OP, I think you could get a ad blocker of some sort to block them, maybe?
Yea the devices are rather simmilar wen you look at the user interface and all, my dinc2 is nice in that I don't have to have all my apps on my home screens. As well I can add 'folders' to my home screens and segment off my apps. And yes there is is an adblocker out there, unfortunately it requires root access.
Since I've had the phone for less than a week I'm going to avoid voiding my warranty for a while. As right now there are no apps I feel I NEED that require root right now. [though a screenshot app would be sublime as a just in case autocorrectfailure makes a funny in my life] I've been digging around, found a site called FDroid, it's like a marketplace thing, but its all open source apps. And from what I have seen, all Ad Free.
Back to the ad blocker though, The way it works is to edit the host file of the phone to force all calls to ad servers end in nowhere making it more difficult for the ads to actually pop up. But that doesnt stop the app from at least TRYING to send that packet of data in the first place, as well as the data phishing that could be in some of the ad code to begin with.
As all that stands though, I think the android platform is definitely geared toward the tech savvy. I think if your going to use it, you should have a good grasp of what it's capable of, and what people are capable of doing with the apps. At that same time It would be nice if google would put some form of... enforcement against some of these adware apps, such as if your going to have an adware app, you NEED to have an ad free version available.
But I am of the mindset that if your going to make an app, either make it good enough to stand on it's own merits, or release it for free or as Open Source so it can be improved upon. There are several apps out there that are free but have no ad free version available. And I'd gladly fork over a dollar for them. There are also some games out there that used to be ad free and low priced that turned into adware. I dunno if its idiocy, or if these advertising firms have just one hell of a sales pitch.

I like IOs better, better UI imo (i've used an android phone, did NOT like it) the browser UI on ios is better as well, easier to change pages etc
I've had experience with the iPod Touch and even an iPad, I didn't like the experience so much, the apps and such that I fiddled with were ok. a bunch of my friends have them, they all seem happy with them. I would prolly enjoy it too... but I get squimish about it for some reason. I don't understand or like their pricing methods. Why is the 8 gig iPad and the 32gig iPad so vastly different in price, when the only difference between them is the amount of built in storage?
Jan 12, 2012Android has a lot of ups and downs.Posted in: Computer Science and Technology
I just got a new phone, so yay for me no more Google Talk just to make a phone call. I have HTC's Doid Incredible 2. I absolutely love this little device, but I noticed something odd, something thats really hard to take much notice of until you have an android device yourself, or at least heavily watch over technology trends and problems.
Great little platform, easy to use, nice little organized appstore, a bunch of useful apps and fun little games. But lurking around is some aweful adware. Now on a computer we see something like freeware, or shareware having a little advert on it somewhere as fine and dandy. You know, it's not to obtrusive for a little half inch ad to sit there on your 15 + inch screen. At least It never bothered me on my laptop. But on a mobile phone, I suddenly became aware of how annoying these are, the data they can track and not only that but if you think about it, the apps that they appear in. Say one of the most common apps people usually like to get first. A File Manager of some kind.
A file Manager app has zero need to connect to the internet, its a simple on system app to manage the files on your device. However in the case of many free Android File Management apps, while your using it, this little image will crawl up from the bottom or top of the screen, push out of the way or in some cases covering up the content of the app making it hard to use.
Now this kind of thing would be totally tolerable if... say, It retreated back to where it came from after a few moments, but no it sits there, flashing its bright distracting colors. Still more annoying, to me at least, is the fact that these ads are not just hard coded in. No, they reach out to the internet to some database somewhere, to find ads to show you. Now browsing the intonet on a droid phone, connected to a cellular network... you expect some data usage... obviously. But while Browsing the contents of the SD card in your phone?
A little 3kb image here and there actually can rack up over time, especially if your a moderate user of the device. On top of that, some of these ads people have in their free aps will keep data and store it on your phone, images of their ads, and in some cases, the ads can even drop icons on your home screens, send alerts, and yes, even start the download of other aps. You can't fully blame the Developer of the ap who wants to offer a free version of his product and still get some revenue. Many of the modders here on Minecraft forum are guilty of the same exact thing. Don't believe me? How many mods have you downloaded that involved clicking on an adf.ly link? Yea, thats advertising, if you can spread your content and get hundreds of people to download from your link, you can make a few bucks. But at least adfly is a one time deal, see the ad, go one with your life.
Ok, I'm done with my rant.
So following that, I want to know from you out there what your thoughts are on Android and such as well as what apps you use. Are there any Open Source Development teams out there making apps? I'd love to see Open Office.org release something.
Dec 23, 2011Personally for cannabis, I dont see a problem with it, so long as things are done right, and no one is being a little ***** thinking they the **** over some damn weed. However I do see a problem with meth and other hard drugs, coke, crack, heroin blah blah blah, that **** causes more harm than need be, But a little weed will save lives. [Seriously, the mellowing effect weed has on some people is better than leaving them sober lol.Posted in: General Off Topic

Nov 19, 2011This can happen if your connection to the server is not stable enough or if the server is experiencing lag. Since the server needs to keep a close eye on items and their locations, if the connection is not stable enough or becomes unstable this can start happening. Disconnect from the server, shut down minecraft, and try again.Posted in: Legacy Support
