I keep getting conflicting information all over. So, I'm putting up a post for this question.

How many people can be on your server at one time and not have bad lag if you have 1 Gig of ram dedicated to the MC.java server?

Hey, Love the idea of MineOS Crux. Wanted to give it a shot for a while

I am trying to install MineOS Crux on a bit of an older laptop that is currently running Ubuntu Server.

I DL'd the image file, burnt with ImgBurn, popped it in, checked the boot order to ensure CDROM was the first boot option, and rebooted the server. Ubuntu fired up off the HDD.

Popped the CD into my main machine to ensure I didn't bring home the blank CD, and CRUX files are on the CD.
Forced the cdrom boot in BIOS, Popped in another bootable CD, rebooted and the CD spun up and booted from CD fine.

Do I have a bad burn maybe, or is there something else I need to change first? Is the MineOS CRUX iso bootable?

Yes it is bootable. Maybe a bad burn or maybe you got a couple configs mixed up in the iso bootable burn prosses. I use free PowerISO and it doesn't ask for ISO options or Bootable Options. It just burns them with no real pre-required questions almost like the nice semi-old-school CDBurnerXP. Also In case you were unaware ISOs have to be burned with a boot enabled option that tags the cd/dvd with a boot tag that the comp then understands how to boot from the cd/dvd.

All you do with PowerISO is click the burn button then it gives you a popup asking you to browse to the iso file and select it. Then you change to Burn Speed if you want to and then click the Burn button on the bottom of the popup and your good to go.

    ****EDIT****
Also, it could be that for some reason your laptop dvd drive doesn't read the type of dvd you are using. I had this happen to me a few times in the past with different laptops.

/save-all and /stop are redundant, since the save-all is part of stop.

Am I correct in gathering you're just trying to do a cronjob server restart? If so, using MineOS (I'm assuming from your other post), as root:

    crontab -u mc -e
    * 4 * * * cd /usr/games/minecraft; ./mineos_console.py stop servername
    * 4 * * * cd /usr/games/minecraft; ./mineos_console.py start servername

You'd obviously have to modify the crontab for the frequency you prefer and the server name.

    http://minecraft.codeemo.com/buildmineos/index.php/Crontabs

I figured it out quite fast once you had pointed me to: http://minecraft.codeemo.com/buildmineos/index.php/Crontabs#crontab_run_as_root_at_a_regular_interval
I should have found/seen that myself though.... I do much of my server work when I'm tired unfortunately.

I had found the above on the other sight you suggested earlier: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mineos/rRFQRcGdbz0
And was able to verify that I was doing it correctly.

However, Ill be running crontab as mc at a user-specified interval

    ****SUGGESTION****

Could I suggest adding a VirtualBox walkthrough for those out there that have not used it before?
You could prob just take the vid from MineOS or MineOS+ and use the first part of it for the VirtualBox walkthrough.
I say this bc many people out there have never used VMs of any sort before.

Ok so I have a non GUI Linux Distro installed.

All I need to know is how to use MineCraft console commands in linux. I need to know this so I can set up crontab to run the /save-all command and after that is done (wait a min or two) then have it use /stop and then use the start-up java script to start it up.

(Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place; I am new to these fourms)
What is a good linux distro to use?
And, would the server run if I didn't install the gui, just the command shell?
If possible, please post a distro that doesn't require a gui.

I would highly suggest using this prepackaged Minecraft Linux OS called MineOS CRUX. Located on these forums here.

Very easy to set up. You will have a Linux OS and a MC server up and going in under 20min. It is very very very easy for someone who doesn't know Linux especially Linux in a non visual (GUI) environment. On top of that it has many pre-installed features like automatic backups that you can then easily Restore to. All the functions of the MineCraft server are usable through a web interface. This means you don't have to do any Linux command line commands once the OS is installed. It also has ftp access via sftp and you can use Free FileZila for this. This means you can easily transfer files in and out of your server in a visual (GUI) environment from any computer that isn't the server. The other nice thing about this Distro is that it one of the smallest Distros out on the market and uses very little system resources. You can find further information on this in the link I gave you above.

You have done a great job with this man. My very first Minecraft Server was the original MineOS, and I absolutely loved it. Keep up the good work.

Most important paths are listed in the 'overview' page of the webui, but to save you some time, all the server jars/minecraft scripts are located at: /usr/games/minecraft

As a sidenote, I do not recommend replacing the existing jars with your own--rather, simply add your ADDITIONAL jars to that above directory with a unique name: the web-ui will automatically populate it in the dropdown list and you can select it.

Using this method will allow you to have any number of server jars which can be toggled at will.

Thank you for the tidbit of info.

OK. Sounds good to me then. I haven't had any issues since getting it up and going. Thanks for your responses and help so far.

QUESTION: Where is the server.jar and the bukkit.jar located at on MineOS CRUX? I need to be able to change out Bukkit to the DEV version bc I have plugins that run off of the DEV version of Bukkit.
